Very good place to grab lunch. Surprisingly not busy at all during the lunch hour. We had the roasted vegetables, salad and we split a Gracie and smokey half and half pizza. The food is great and the waitresses too BUT the owner is horrible! The waitresses were trying to hurry us up by bringing out the food very quick which thats fine, but then the owner comes and says that we only have up to an hour to finish up eating bc there is a wait time and the capacity is only at 50%, we were only 40 min in when he came up to say that! We had barely ordered dessert! He made us feel so uncomfortable so unwelcome. read more

This place is hit or miss. Sometimes it's great, and sometimes it's not so great. The service is always really good, and the outdoor patio is my favorite, esp. when it's all lit up. I wouldn't recommend the fettuccine Alfredo, it came out clumpy and cold. However, their vegetarian lasagna is really good and I love it. The seafood linguini isn't that great either, because it comes with just clam pieces instead of whole clams in the shell which is how most places serve it. The plain cheese ravioli is pretty good, but then how can you mess up cheese ravioli? Overall I would recommend it, just stay away from the fettuccine Alfredo and seafood linguini. read more

We love this restaurant--the food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is pleasant. We dropped in today for dinner and ordered our usual, the pepperoni pizza and shrimp linguine. As usual, food was beyond delicious and our server was attentive and nice. However, at the end of our meal, we were sitting and I was waiting for my husband to finish his beer--which was almost done--when we were asked to move to another table to accommodate a larger party. Normally, this would not be a problem, but since we were seated right in front of the door, we looked to see that no larger party was waiting to be seated. I could also understand if we had been camping out at the table, but we had been there less than an hour when we were asked to move. It made us feel like we were not valued as paying guests. It put a damper on the end of what had been a very pleasant evening and we left feeling let down. Hopefully, we won't experience this again the next time we stop in. read more

Very competent Italian cooking that is a couple of steps above the American "red sauce" restaurants that are everywhere. Bonus for a wood-fired oven that was knocking out tasty pizzas all evening. There isn't a lot of good Italian in a lot of the US, and not much good Italian in El Paso, but this was very good and I lived in southern Italy so I should know about pasta and pizza. A group of four of us enjoyed splitting a Caprese Salad with super-tasty tomatoes that are the opposite of what one normally gets from a grocery store. We also split a board of pizza bread toasted with herbs, prosciutto and goat cheese, salami, and a nice sliced pear, walnut and honey combination. I was about half full by this time and didn't expect the large dishes to come. Each of the four of us ordered different dishes: a Pizza Marguerita with add-ons, a Shrimp Linguine, a Calzone and a bowl of Spaghetti with Meatballs. All were served at the same time, equally hot. And equally tasty according to the diners. Kudos to the kitchen staff for cooking four different dishes for one table and synchronizing their delivery. I had the meatball spaghetti and thought there was a bit too much fennel in the meatballs; but I've had that reaction in other places in the US. I may be overly-sensitive to it. But I liked the size of the meatballs, which were slightly larger than ping pong balls. They fit the plate of pasta well and were expertly cooked. I could have used less sauce on the pasta but the sauce I had was very tasty and seemed to be made from the same tomatoes that overjoyed us in the Caprese Salad. The sauce was intensely tasty, and it was properly mixed into the spaghetti instead of being poured over the top. Eater 2 reported that the shrimp linguine was tasty and the pasta was properly cooked. Eater 3 loved the pizza and its thin Neapolitan-style crust, which had sufficient but not too much charring marks on it. Eater 4 enjoyed the calzone which was practically the size of a US football (it was Saturday in football season, and not really, but the dish was huge) and took 3/4 of it home to eat for the next month or two. Service was very good on a weekend night where most tables were full while we were there. Prompt and efficient, no order mistakes, and a good connection between the kitchen and the dining room in delivering dishes to what seemed to be a friendly and happy crowd. read more

Great pizza and nice outdoor setting when the weather is nice. We got the smoked pizza and it was delicious! It was a "white" pizza which the waitress explained it didn't have any tomato sauce on it. Since this was the first time I'd had a pizza like that I was hesitant but, from the recommendation from the waitress, we stuck with the order as is and we were not disappointed. You could have them add the sauce if you wanted but I highly recommend you don't. We added pepperonis to the pie which complimented the sausage nicely. The roasted bell peppers were a great touch as well, though I would have liked a little more on the pie (hence the 4 instead of 5 stars). The bread was a nice combo of crunch and soft and you could really appreciate the stone oven in the flavor of the bread. You can take your own bottle of wine since they don't serve there but as a heads up, there is a $5 bottle charge which we didn't mind. I'd also highly encourage going when the weather is cooling off. You got a pretty good view of the mountains from the outdoor dinning area and it makes for a great romantic, sunset dinner! read more

This place has outstanding pizza and appetizers! I love that it's a BYOB. I'm not fond of the corkage fee, but that will not prevent me from returning. We got their antipasti and was pleasantly surprised it was served with bread. We also ordered the Caprese salad with their homemade mozzarella, which is to die for! The olive oil they served with the Caprese salad was outstanding. I am from an Italian family that has Pizzaria's in NY, and I thought their pizza was outstanding; from the dough to the fresh ingredients and having it cooked in a brick oven. Goodness, if you haven't eaten here, you must try it. Their dining area is small & intimate & they have tables outside. The service was great. We will definitely go back. This will be my 'go-to' restaurant for all our out of town guests. read more

The restaurant had a few other customers but they were almost finished when we arrived, so we had the whole place to ourselves. We've gone here twice now - disappointed the first time and this time, 9 months later, the whole experience was worse! We arrived to a nearly empty restaurant - meaning there was one group of four besides us in the place. Despite this the service was slow, very slow. We ordered our food, no wine, and while waiting the waiter for the other group went to their table and presented a gift to one of the ladies for her "special day." The whole table is a little confused though - turns out the waiter gave someone else's present to them. A gentleman had come by earlier and pre-staged with the restaurant for this to happen when he came in with his dinner party but they gave it to a completely different group. Fortunately, the guests there protested enough that they eventually took the box back and were able to give it to the correct lady later... Our experience, besides slow, the food was OK. The famed bread turns out to be their pizza dough - nothing more, just the baked pizza dough. Boring and bland. When our food came it was good but again nothing much to talk about. We ordered their famous dessert... and this was a disaster. It is once again, their pizza dough. A HUGE roll of pizza dough covered in much too sweet chocolate, overcooked, and bitter where burnt. We took two bites each - after I managed to saw off pieces of it. Even guests at other tables were looking at it like it was road kill on the plate. It was just plain bad. Very bad experience. Staff extremely rude. Only a little past an hour there and my husband and I were asked to leave, as there were "others waiting for a table." We were still enjoying our wine and felt embarrassed and humiliated. There were other guests still there that were there when we arrived and were still comfortably enjoying their evening, not being asked to leave. The hostess was extremely disrespectful. We were celebrating our anniversary and the evening was ruined by poorly trained staff. We called the owner to express our discontent and never received a call back. This place is why Yelp was created (well THAT and for the company to go public and make the founder rich). Who would have know that one of the world's best pizza places would be in El Paso, Texas USA!?!? The location is a slight minus: small parking lot with spaces reserved for the title company next door (I hope they get don't get a discount for taking up so many spaces!) The place is not big (maybe 10 tables) and the patio is even smaller, but perhaps this is the next Big Thing in AMA. Let's start with the Perfect house salad. The spinach salad was good too. But the house salad has dressing lightly applied. The sliced pears, walnuts and grated Parmesan added the perfect flavor to the mixed greens. Next, the pizza. OMG - The Pizza! There are giant pictures on the walls of a man making pizza. Yes - that is him in the kitchen. I actually applaud him for drinking (Corona) on the job - it must be hot back there. The pizzas were both amazing - I don't think there is a bad one. If there such a thing as a sixth star on Yelp, I would have give it here. Oh, and did I mention that it is BYOB? This a seriously good pizza place, and if you haven't had it, stop reading a go now. My husband I and went when they first opened, and we go at least twice a month on the weekends. Their lunch menu is also fantastic. The chicken panino is amazing, and it is big, served with a salad. The staff is always friendly, and they're all family, so since we go a lot, they all know us. In fact, they are so nice, my husband and I went in for lunch one day to order the chicken panino, and they had run out of it. The owner came out, apologized and offered to make us something not on the menu, that we would like. So he made us some prosciutto crostini's with ricotta (because we love ricotta on our pizza), and brought us a caprese panino. It was all, needless to say, delicious. Dinner menu does not include panini's, but the pizza is the best in town. We always get the caprese salad, they make their own mozzarella. Also, a must have is the Nutella calzone. It is HUGE, so share amongst family members or indulge in one on your own. Yes, it is BYOB, but sometimes that's a good thing; and the location is not bad at all. It gives it a more intimate romantic atmosphere, or a more "homey" feel. It's a must try if you live in El Paso or come in from out of town. read more

This is a fantastic restaurant. My wife and I went for dinner last Wednesday. On a midweek evening, the restaurant was busy. We had heard the restaurant is BYOB, and took a good bottle of red wine. They charge a very reasonable $3 corkage fee. We ordered a caprese salad and a pizza with fennel and mushroom, to which we added Italian sausage. The pizza did not have a red sauce. The caprese salad had mozzarella made in-house. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I have had caprese salad all over the world, including in Italy, and this is the best I have encountered. The seasoning was perfect. The bread accompanying the caprese salad, pane rustico, was served with herbed and salted butter. The bread was perfect for sopping up the olive oil and mozzarella juice of the salad. The pizza was excellent, with a nice crust, flavorful mushrooms, soft and tasty fennel. It was accompanied by crushed, dried red chilies, also fresh, with more flakes than seeds. Service was excellent. I spoke to the pizza chef in Italian, realized he didn't speak Italian, switched to English and was shocked to learn he is Mexican. I asked where he learned to cook Italian food, he replied, simply, "At home." He must have grown up in a great Italian home in Mexico. This dinner cost $37, and so far, is the best meal I've had in El Paso. My only disappointment: their sole dessert is a Nutella calzone. I think they should add a couple of desserts to the menu. read more

"It's really good, and we're in Mexico - IT'S FIVE STARS" says my boyfriend who has been desperately trying to find anything that isn't Mexican food. When we went on a Friday night around 7 there was a 10 minute wait, which is to be expected when the dining room has less than a dozen tables. We split the house salad and the Bianco pizza, both of which were quite good. After a trip to the El Paso Airport with friends, the 4 of us decided to have pizza for lunch. We were not disappointed with our choice. First of the side salads with our pizza was real nice with fresh greens, little tomatoes, walnuts, and pear slices. The wood fired pizzas were outstanding. Our friend's Smoked Mozzarella Pizza was topped with sliced yellow peppers, sausage, and smoked homemade cheese. My wife and I had two pizzas, so we could bring home some of each for later. The Marguerita Pizza with red sauce, basil and homemade cheese was delicious and my Marinara Pizza with red sauce, oregano, and garlic. I did add sausage and fresh homemade cheese. I don't know what's going on or how it happened, but there's a truly authentic Italian cafe in El Paso! I stayed in rural Italy for a month, so I know Italian and Cafe Italia is amazingly it. They make their own mozzarella and its quite good. Not as good as fresh Italian, but almost. The pizzas are Italian style too (extremely thin crust) and pretty good. They have have a small selection, and aside from the cheese pizza they are not your usual pizzas (but that is not a bad thing). It is delicious and not too expensive. They don't have a liquor license but you can bring your own wine ($3 fee). The place seems very busy so be warned! read more

Came here on a Friday night with three others. We called in advance and, though they do not take reservations, they put us on a 'list' and welcomed us as we came in the door. The place got busy a little after we settled I to our table. We shared the pane rustico appetizer. My fiancé and I shared a pie with half of the Gracie's (fennel, mushrooms) and half of the Bianco's (with arugula)--yes, you can ask for half-and-hall pizzas, a major plus! My fiancé, a NY native and California transplant, claims the pizza is the best he's had 'west of Mississippi.' Crust was thin and perfectly both tender and crusty, house made mozzarella was excellent. Would return if ever in El Paso again, and would highly recommend to others. read more

Great pizza comes down to three things... Thin, brick oven baked, crispy outside/soft inside, slightly burned crust. Not to sweet, not too sour, understated, woody herb tasting tomato sauce. And last but not least, fresh, imported, perfectly melted, never greasy mozzarella and parm cheeses. Quality meats and vegetables on top of that will only be the deal breaker. I come to this place often, although i don't always check in. This place is great! You can bring your own wine which is a plus. The waters will be happy to uncork it for you and provide you with the wine glasses. Wait service has always been fast, friendly and knowledgeable. I have tried almost everything on the menu, its all good. The buffalo mozzarella is made fresh on the premises everyday. The ingredients are high quality and fresh which is evident in the flavors of the food. Its a small menu but you wont be disappointed. The bread, the pizza or pasta you cant go wrong. Love this place! The new tables and chairs make it very bright and inviting. The service friendly and courteous. The food is delicious. My favorite - Linguini & Shrimp, is always perfect. The pasta al dente, hugged by a yummy creamy sauce and the shrimp are never overcooked (maybe the "Red Lobster" cooks could take a lesson here). The salad is very fresh: Arugula, cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced pears, walnuts, and topped with a creamy dressing. To make things even more "Italian" they serve freshly baked, hot pizza bread with herbed butter. I could fill up on this alone. Also important for a good dining experience: The wooden tables are very clean, never sticky, the little pepper mill, the crushed red pepper jar, and salt jar-are also sparkling clean. The food and service at Cafe Italia is among the best in Texas. We traveled all over the state on a road trip and felt right at home here. They do serve beer, but it's BYO wine & liquor. We started with the house salad which was light, fresh and delicious. The bread before with garlic and rosemary butter is a must. Then, we had the Gracie's pizza (white pizza with mushrooms and fennel) and a more traditional pizza with red sauce, Pepperoni and veggies. The pizza was some of the best I've had!
