Nice little place. Our team went here for a work lunch and it turned to be the right decision! They were able to seat us immediately and serve us SO quickly! So, after 5 years of living in Grapevine me and the wife have parted ways. We will miss the Main Street local businesses, but the best kept secret in Grapevine isn't on Main...it's Cafe Italia. This was our date spot, and take family and friends out spot. The service was always overachieving no matter our party size (Gillian is top notch server). But in regards to the food here's what I can speak on: start with the caprice salad. Fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, vinaigrette, and capers, it's a fresh and non-filling start. Entree wise my wife would either get the gluten free pasta (still damn good regardless of glutens) OR the lobster ravioli which is fantastic. For me, it's the veil parmesana and substitute the vodka sauce on it. If I were given a last meal, this would currently be it. The vodka sauce would also vamp up my wife's pasta. Best part of it, BYOW. 5 star food which would total under $50 for two. Try it out, this recommendation will not steer you wrong. read more

It's been awhile since I've visited Cafe Italia. I arrived at 5:00 to a very drab, dark dining room. I asked for my candle to be lit due to the darkness. The server seemed disappointed that I only ordered an appetizer and salad. Service was very impersonal, I believe because I was by myself. Larger groups definitely got more attention. Booooooo. There were 3 ladies at the entrance, 2 hosts, one server. One lady twirling her hair, one of the others picking her nose. I think the employees have become too comfortable, relaxed, due to the poor hygiene. I doubt I'll be back any time soon. read more

What a great find! while staying at the Gaylord Texan we wanted to eat Italian and luckily, due to COVID, the restaurant at the Texan was closed. We checked YELP for nearby locations and this one was the top rated. The food was promptly served. Great sauces and pasta cooked correctly. Didn't care much for the House Salad dressing, but we didn't inquire about it, so I don't blame them. Small place, family owned, friendly staff. Kids meals are the entire menu at half portion. When I got home and preparing to serve discovered it was wrong again. Called to ask for a credit for my missing item and was told there was no mistake; it was a substitution. After our first attempt to dine at Cafe Italia did not go as planned last night due to no reservations and it being a full house, we were diligent in our efforts, made reservations and came back the very next night. We found the hostess and wait staff to be extremely friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was casual, cozy, yet a bit cliched with artwork at the back of the establishment of The Sopranos. It's a "bring your own" wine establishment; after the wine was poured, a generic bread basket followed shortly after. A bit taken aback that the bread wasn't more unique. Just your typical plain French bread, not even dipping oil with pepper provided. The salads included a green romain leafy lettuce with some shredded carrots topped with some cheese and ground pepper and tomato vinagrette. Simple and sweet. The lasanga appeared a bit mushy and sloppy caked with cheese and marinera sauce. Lasanga should not dissolve on the plate, you should see each distinct layer and each bite should invite your taste buds to crave each remaining piece till the end. I did not feel the invitation. The linguine and clams soaked in white wine was exactly how I envisioned it - a bit salty, softer pasta with bits of garlic and clam meat. A much more positive invite with this dish. read more

Decided to give Cafe Italia a try. Drove by frequently and always saw a packed packing lot. Called ahead and was able to get a reservation for 6 @5pm. We arrived on time and was told we had to be done by 6:30pm, not a great first impression. Got the bill at 6:15pm, just under the wire, lol. Our table was ready when we arrived and the wait staff were nice and attentive, bringing bread and refilling drinks. Placed our order and enjoyed our time. When salad came it was simply lettuce with a tomato slice and then the food came out those that ordered chicken dishes seemed to be lacking chicken on the plate. Pasta orders seemed larger and those that had them were happy. Chicken was pounded super thin and though tasty wasn't very filling. Also the half cup of spaghetti with sauce was not what one would expect at an Italian restaurant. The chocolate mousse cake was outstanding and I should have started with that. Overpriced for what was received shouldn't have paid more than $10 for my meal. Skip this place and find another Italian restaurant. read more

This is a great traditional Italian food restaurant, owned by Italians for over 30 years. My in-laws have been coming here over 30 years, and they said it hasn't changed! All of the items were amazing, and pretty quick! It's also BYOB, so make sure you bring your wine! For kids, it is just the normal menu items- half the size and half the cost. read more

This place isn't Olive Garden and it's not the North End in Boston, but as far as a local Italian place with very good food at very good prices, it hits the mark. I had the bone in Veal and my GF had the Peppercorn Filet and they were both cooked perfectly to temperature. The side salad is very basic but that's fine because you really want to taste the house dressing. It's delicious. Service was fantastic and the ambience was fun. So the menu.... there are a ton of options here, it works. This menu coupled with their "BYOW/no corkage" business model is a home run. So many cool combinations food/wine wise you can go with here. If you're an oenophile and you like good chow and want an excuse to break out that cool bottle you have at home to pair with legit food. Give this place a try! read more

We needed to find a place halfway between my friend and myself and Grapevine seemed to be the midway point. Having never dined in Grapevine I had to pick a place blindly and since we all like italian we thought to give Cafe Italia a chance. When we walked in, the decor was cliche simple italian design. The tables were close but by no means crowding. Our server was a delightful girl named Elise who was wonderful. She was friendly, helpful and top notch professional, a delight to work with. We were immediately served some bread, which on Texas scales was pretty ok (it is extremely rare to get good bread in texas). This is a BYOB, which is always a good selling point for me. The menu is basic, cliche italian dishes, nothing unusual just the standard fare. My friends ordered the chicken and veal parm while I had the chicken balsamic. I also ordered a side dish of pasta with garlic and oil (light oil, heavy garlic). The pasta was overcooked which disappointed but the garlic&oil was nice. The balsamic sauce was really quite tasty and I enjoyed it a lot. However, (from past experience) I expected chicken breast and not a well pounded chicken cutlet. However, overall it was enjoyable. For dessert, my friends ordered some cakes (sorry I forget which) and I ordered the cannoli. For me, this was almost the best part of the meal. The texture and taste was very enjoyable and I was told the cakes were also tasty. If I lived near Grapevine, I might possibly come back but there are much better italian restaurants closer to my home. read more

Such a yummy place! Met a friend here for dinner because it was in a convenient location and boy did we hit the jackpot! Staff was incredibly professional and attentive and the food was delicious. I ordered the chicken Alfredo and the sauce was creamy and so yummy! Huge portion so i have plenty for lunch tomorrow. Well I have to state that this is one of the best eateries I have had the pleasure to visit. Despite its unassuming exterior this joint sends food out of Rangers Stadium!! Delicious and very reasonably priced. The only drawback is that they don't sell liquor so it's a byob, but don't worry!!! The Valero gas station (yes it's a gas station) just down the road has an excellent selection of wines and beer!!! This is without a doubt a "don't miss" great service and a very pleasant crowd too! One of my best gal pals wanted to go to lunch on Sunday. She knows she never has to twist my arm to go out to eat. We decided to explore Cafe Italia and see if it was any good. Well it is! The interior was rather dimly lit but once our eyes adjusted, it has a homey feel. The paintings of mobsters on the back wall cracked me up. When my close buddy asked for wine, the server said, "We don't sell wine." *pause* "But I can give you some of the house wine we keep in the back." And he brought us two glasses of red wine on the house! I was stunned. This is a BYOB place but we didn't know. I guess since my friend is cute and blonde we got the five star treatment but I suspect they treat everyone well all the time. Calamari? very good Veal Marsala on my plate? fabulous Veal Jerusalem on my friend's plate? stellar sides of pasta with marinara sauce? ehh. Steer clear of their red sauce. its a bit on the sour side. Tiramisu? oh sweet jesus.. some of the best tiramisu on the planet. and if the tiramisu wasn't enough our host refilled our wine glasses when he brought the dessert out. I heartily recommend giving this place a whirl. Take a bottle of wine in with you and estimate you're going to spend around 25 dollars a person to do it up right. Might I add its a quiet place on Sunday afternoon so this could be an ideal location for a fun bridal shower. I bet with some advance notice they'd welcome that kind of thing. This is a total hidden gem. The outside looks kind of puny and it's a ways down the road from the adorableness that is downtown Grapevine, so it's easy to discount this place as not being worth giving a shot. Shame on me for taking so long to give it a chance, because I LOVED it. When you walk in, you find a cozy restaurant - it is as small as it looks - but it's decorated to look like you've just walked into an Italian villa. Our waiter was either actually Italian or great at faking the accent, but either way his service was top notch. It was easy to feel transported to another place and time in this restaurant. Cafe Italia is BYOB, so he uncorked our bottle and brought us delicious, fresh baked bread. I ordered the tortellini Michael Angelo and it was everything you could ever hope for. Creamy sauce, delicious tortellini.... my mouth is watering as I'm thinking about it, it was SO good. The sauce never had a chance - that fresh bread was used to soak up every last bit of it! We went early, around 5, and by 6 the place was completely packed. I would plan on making a reservation if you are going for dinner. All in all, a perfect place for a date night. High expectations of this place since every time we drive by it seems packed. I took my family there the other night to break our cycle of favorite restaurants... and man were we disappointed. I'm probably the odd man out here because the ratings for this place are for the most part good, but I just found it really, really boring. When I say boring, I mean it for more than just our melancholy waiter and cliche decor. The Pros: A HUGE portion of yummy, airy white bread is served before the meal. The salad (which came with my entree), was perfectly sized and had a wonderful "house" dressing that was worth keeping to dip the bread in. The Cons: Decor: I don't typically beat up the decor of a restaurant because let's face it, who cares what the place looks like if the food is great right? Well, the food wasn't great, so I was forced to focus on something else. I guess you would call the look of this place "american authentic". The waiter/staff: Made us feel like they could care less if we were there... which is never a good feeling. I don't need much more than a smile and a few questions about my day to make me feel like we are going to mutually enjoy the next hour of our lives. The Food: I am on a quest to find the perfect eggplant parmesan, and this was not it. Soggy, bland and COVERED in cheese. My wife had the manicotti and it was also very bland and had the exact same, underwhelming sauce as my entree. Kids had adult portions of the fettuccine alfredo and ravioli, with.... you guessed it, the same red sauce. Maybe I like a different region of itailan. Maybe I set my expectations too high. Maybe this is comfort italian and they substitute creativity with tradition. In any case, I feel like a 2 star rating is fair considering the $100 meal we were served. FYI - BYOB. Really bad experience here The lasagna I ordered wasn't even made with lasagna noodles, it was made with wide bands of tagliatelle, and only one layer at that. It was served on a plate with a watery sauce and hardly any substance to it. I also tried the acclaimed pink vodka sauce, but could only taste butter. For a 7.95 lunch this is possibly the worst mom and pop Italian I've ever been too. Comparing it to places I've been to in LA, NYC, an Italy, I've seen mom and pop cafes done properly. This places is anything but. It lacks any type of culinary soul. Presentation was god awful, and the baked ziti came out an oily saucy mess in about 5 minutes. I don't think they know what a baked zit actually is. Pasta sauce had that over salted manufactured taste. I'm giving it two stars because if the quick service and slightly above average salad greens and bread. No matter how much I try, I just can't bring myself to give Cafe Italia a fourth star. To be fair, it probably deserves an overall 3.5 star, but not enough to deserve the fourth. My dinner companion and I visited Cafe Italia based on a recommendation from a local working at one of the wineries in Grapevine. When I called around 6pm on Saturday to make reservations for two, I was told the earliest they could squeeze me in was 8pm. As I looked around the antique shop I was standing in where I was calling from in downtown Grapevine and the keen interest with which my companion was going through the rows of knick knacks, I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach this was going to be an interminably long 2 hour wait. Several shops and purchases later, we finally made our way to Cafe Italia. It looked like there was a parking bonanza in the parking lot. Every other car was a luxury European make and at peak dinner hour, the lot is so narrow it's like fitting a square peg in a small round hole. Instead, park at the bank lot just across the street. The restaurant interior itself is humble. The lights are dim, decorations are minimal except for a couple of charcoal sketches of characters from the Sopranos. Overall, the interior felt tired and old to me. The noise level can definitely reach extremes in the small, confined space. The food was alright. The soft, warm bread was a nice treat. The mussels in spicy marinara were ok - sauce was a bit soupy. My veal Jerusalem was good, but again, nothing stellar. Food was prepared and brought to the table quickly and service was efficient. The BYOB with no corkage is definitely a nice touch. If you've got a group doing some winery hopping, this would be a good place to bring your group and bottles of recently purchased wine. Just make sure to make reservations in advance. Otherwise, I think there are better options to explore back on Main Street. read more

My boyfriend, a co-worker from out of town, and I ate here due to the good Yelp reviews and I have to say, that I COMPLETELY disagree. I ordered a dish involving fettuccini, veggies, and a cream sauce - sorry, I can't remeber what it was called. The vegetables were cooked well and had a good flavor, but the cream sauce was awful. It honestly tasted like melted butter. My boyfriend had the lobster ravioli and it was relatively mediocre. If I hadn't heard him order the dish, I never would have guessed it was lobster ravioli, as the amount of lobster actually in the dish was pretty negligible. I am giving them 2 stars because I actually liked the calamari. The breading was light and well seasoned, and calamari was very tender. read more

The before meal Salad and Bread is delish as well. Make sure to get the Stuffed Mushroom aps, and the calamari, and the... oh just come as often as possible and get it all! The waiters are wonderful! Easy on the eyes and ears! Love listening to them tell me the specials. Can you repeat that please? This place is BYOB, and they don't judge. I took a date to Cafe Italia on a Wednesday night. Neither of us had been there before. I was looking for something small and romantic for our second date. Due to traffic we arrived later than our reservation, but we were still able to get a table after a little bit of a wait. I'm glad I made the reservation because it was definitely necessary (even on a Wednesday night)! The interior of the restaurant is small and tastefully decorated. The staff was very attentive and the food was superb. I don't think I have ever had marinara that tasted as good as theirs, and I have several Italian family members who pride themselves on their sauce. I had eggplant parmesan and my friend had the chicken special. Both were delicious, but I have to admit that the chicken special was better. Be sure to BYOB. There is no corking fee, and we saw lots of parties who had done this. I didn't have a chance to pick up a bottle of wine on the way over, and I regretted not having done so. I think the only downside to our dining experience was the noise. There were so many people in the small dining room and all of the talking was very loud. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem. However, if you're looking to have a quiet romantic dinner, I would suggest arriving early to avoid the rush. read more

The cream sauce had no other flavors or seasonings. It wasn't bad but very plain. The same was true for my wife's spaghetti and meat sauce. No hints of basil, oregano or any other herb. The chocolate cheesecake for desert was again passable but unremarkable. At least we brought our own bottle of wine to add some punch. Unfortunately we will not be returning for another dinner.
