I knew this place had high potential the moment I walked in the door and caught a whiff. Then, seeing what looked like old New Yorkers walk out, I knew I was in for something good. Started with the garlic bread and garlic and herb dipping oil. Holy Garlicy! You'll keep the vampires away for sure. For the entree, I was so torn but went with my all time favorite Chicken Parm. Thinly sliced cutlets cooked to perfection. At the appearance, I felt I'd be taking half of it home. I did not take any home. It was filling but felt so light at the same time, if that makes any sense. I'll contribute that to the fresh, quality ingredients used. Just as I remember it 20 years ago.... This is a family run restaurant and I haven't been here in years and I remember the baked ziti being really good. I decided on a whim since I was in the area to give it a try again and it's still high quality and probably one of the best Italian in Southlake. I just came back from Italy several months ago so it's not quite Italy standards but let's just say my mom and I both finished our food. None was left for any take home. This is the Italian food where every bite is tasty, but I don't feel like I'm in a food coma afterwards. Not super oily like some of the other Italian U.S. restaurants I've been to. Lost a customer! I come here pretty often. I came in this past Saturday to pick up my food and this lady employee was extremely rude as if my food I PAID FOR was coming out of her paycheck! she was very short with me and just overall RUDE! literally made my food not even good when I got home that night. We tried this restaurant for the first time although we have passed it maybe a million times in southlake. Its located right next to black rock coffee on southlake blvd! Picked up to-go order and everything was delicious minus the garlic bread hence the four stars review. We ordered a large hamburger topping pizza, penne bolognese, and the meatball appetizer. All was flavorful and cooked very well. It was packed inside and lots of people coming in and out which is all a great sign of food thats yummy. We also got the garlic bread as mentioned but it didn't come with any type of sauce and was extremely dry. Felt literally like bread with garlic powder on top thrown in the oven for a bit too long. I sent my husband back in to ask if it came with any sauce or anything and the person he asked said "you can order some" ...it should definitely have some sauce I think that would make it tolerable along with a little less rock texture. It was the only thing we didn't eat. The plain bread that came with the order was nice and fluffy, much better consistency and flavor than the garlic bread. So not easy to find, it's next to a massage place in the parking lot and easy to miss! I'm so glad I went hunting and found it. After being seated and looking over the menu, I asked the server if I should go with the baked ziti or the manicotti. He didn't even flinch and said the baked ziti. I have to say I thought it was a bit of a vodka sauce, but definitely in the top 2 of probably 50 I've tried over my life. Decided to try the lemon cello for desert, and it was very good also. Tonight we met up with my future in laws for dinner at Armend's. My fiancé and his parents having been coming here for years and I'm happy that they've introduced me to this place. It's a very casual restaurant. It's BYOB so we definitely do bring our own wine. They serve warm bread rolls when you sit down at the table. If you dip the bread in their marinara sauce, it's to die for. Tonight I got their baked ziti. It was piping hot when they brought it out to me which I appreciate! It was amazing. First off, I want to say that the service is great! All of the servers refilled the drinks quickly and all of the food came out at a reasonable time. They were really understanding that we had a large group and were waiting for the rest of the party to come before ordering. I had gotten the salmon scampi with a side of pasta. The salmon was covered in a lemon sauce that was so delicious! I enjoyed every bite of it. Everyone only had good things to say about the food. The issue arose when I started eating the spaghetti. I took one bite and when I went in for a second, I saw that there was a gray/green discolored noodle. I set it aside so that I could let the waitress know later in case there was something wrong with it so that they could check other pastas. She told me that she would ask the cook, but never got back to me about it. She had given everyone their check besides me so I assumed she took my meal off the tab. I later inquired her about the pasta when I got up to leave asking if the pasta was really mold in case I needed to drink medicine. She then turned to the owner and ushered us to speak to him about the issue. He claimed that it was just burnt pasta due to it being at the bottom of the pot. He sounded offended that we even suggested that it was mold and said that "We are too busy for there to be mold". This left a distasteful feeling as I was leaving. Then taking the meal off of the tab was not my intention of mentioning it to them. I intended to let them know discreetly so that it doesn't happen to others. But I do appreciate them trying to take responsibility for just "burnt" pasta. What upset me was their response to my genuine concern for my health due to the food that I ingested. My friend and had lunch here today after being stuck at home for over a week with a cold and finally was cleared to step out of the house! We decided to try this place after I read an article about 10 restaurants to try in Southlake. I was definitely surprised by how delicious the food was. We only had a couple Items but they were excellent. My friend had the spaghetti bolognese and it was very tasty! The bolognese sauce had the perfect blend of spices and not too thick. I had the Stromboli, with a side of marinara sauce, which was equally as tasty. My Stromboli had mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, sausage and pepperoni, and it wasn't all greasy as is sometimes the case when you have those proteins on anything. I didn't know the difference between a Stromboli and a calzone but Gent (owners son-I think that was his name) explained it to me. Gent was very pleasant and answered all of our questions. I love this place! It's BYOB and so we brought a bottle of wine with us. We ordered the deep dish pizza which was garlicky, delicious and enormous, like there were two of us and we ate like a quarter or it. We also had the stuffed mushroom appetizer which was nice, too.
