The thin-sliced potatoes were highly seasoned and stood out, moving away from the standard, heavy breakfast spuds you get at most places. The presentation across the board was excellent. The latte arrived with a nice touch--a small side cookie and a club soda to cleanse the palate, which shows a level of intentionality you don't always find. The staff members were incredibly friendly and gracious from start to finish. With fast Wi-Fi and a comfortable environment, it is an ideal spot to get some quality laptop time. I've wanted to try this place for a long time, and honestly, it was a letdown. I walked in with one other person--so a party of two--and while it was busy, there were clearly open tables. We were told we could sit at the bar or outside, but when we asked for one of the open tables, we were denied because they were "reserved for parties of three." That just doesn't make sense. We're still paying customers, ready to order food and drinks. Denying service like that--especially with empty tables in plain sight--feels unnecessary and rigid. I even asked twice, hoping for a little flexibility, but the answer didn't change. I work in the service industry, and this is exactly the kind of situation where you make an exception or use some common sense. Instead, it felt like policy over hospitality. Service: quick and the staff was very friendly! Seating: lots of seating inside and few cute seating outside. Parking: no street parking available but there is a small shopping center next to the restaurant and patrons were able to park there. Price range: Breakfast entrees for under $20-a steal! And the portions were quite generous. Ambiance: they have a full cafe which offers various lattes, espresso, and teas. Also, there is a bar towards the back of the restaurant. We visited during the morning so the bar was not opened but I would love to come back and try their specialty cocktails. Drinks: my boyfriend ordered the toasted coconut iced latte and I had the iced latte with coconut milk. The drinks were refreshing and a sure caffeinated pick me up lol Food: To share we ordered the fruity pebbles pancakes with a side of bacon and the egg & vegetables scramble. Fruity pebbles pancakes: these were a pancake lover's dream. Crispy around the edges and buttery soft on the inside. The fruity pebbles were a cute compliment but it did not make the pancakes overly sweet. It was balanced just right. Egg & vegetables scramble was sooooooooooo delicious. A very refreshing dish paired with a side of amazing sliced potatoes and toast. We did not have the toast since we were eating pancakes but I did nibble on a few of the potatoes and they were perfect. The scrambled eggs contained an abundance of fresh tomatoes and spinach, all sautéed together. Overall, this was an amazing dining experience and one that I'm glad to have found. I visited Cafe Kindred for breakfast and caffeine. I was excited to see that they have scratch-made Corned Beef Hash on the menu - so I ordered that, and a cold brew with Half n' Half. Got the cold brew right away. Went and found a table and waited for my food. The inside of the place is super cool Love the ambiance! The food came out in about 10 minutes or so. The Corned Beef Hash comes with two eggs and toast. I dug in - I was somewhat disappointed. The corned beef was very tender - but the potatoes and the dish overall needed seasoning - and salt. I added some salt and black pepper to try and amp up the flavor profile. The potatoes in the dish needed to be crispier as well. The eggs were cooked nicely - a bit of yolk to mix into the rest of the dish. The cold brew was tasty. There are a number of other interesting breakfast items on their menu - so I need to return next time I am in the area to sample some of the other menu items. Service was good. Went to Kindred recently and it was an okay experience. It's a comfy cozy vibe and the warm atmosphere is good for brunch time. Would give it a 3.5/5 if I could, but I'll give them a little bump up because the service and overall experience was pleasant. The food there overall is okay. I enjoyed the Reuben - it was a juicy burger and paired well with the thousand island island dressing. It was a bit greasy but worth the slight mess. Fries were standard. The French toast isn't worth ordering since it's standard bread without any filling or toppings aside from a small dusting of powdered sugar. The cafe and drinks themselves are very cute! If you're eating in you get a small cookie and a little cup of sparkling water with your coffee. I ordered the raspberry mocha, which was delicious and tasted like a dark chocolate-covered raspberry and had the perfect level of sweetness. The vanilla latte is not too special but still delicious. However, skip the affogato-wich. It's just half of an ice cream sandwich in a glass with espresso and left me disappointed. The service was great with really friendly staff that looked like they were having a good time. They helped keep the vibes easygoing and relaxed! I have been to Café kindred many times. I like the vibe of the place and enjoy the decorations/interior. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Orders are placed at the counter where they give you a number and they bring your food and drinks to the table for you, they also have takeout. I have tried the breakfast sandwiches in the past and they were solid. During this visit, I asked the employee at the counter what her favorite items were and chose one of those, being the chili tot poutine. I also ordered a cappuccino with vanilla. The espresso drinks are always solid here, they are served with a sidecar (sparkling water) and a shortbread cookie. The chili tot poutine was disappointing, the chili and tots were barely lukewarm, just a scattering of some shredded cheese that was barely noticeable, not much flavor, I wouldn't order it again. The shortbread cookies are absolutely delicious! I always purchase a bag of them every time I visit. This trip, I also purchased a snickerdoodle cookie and a mini lemon poppyseed loaf. I was excited to try both of these items as they are a couple of my favorite baked treats, however both were disappointing. The snickerdoodle lacked the signature cinnamon flavor, and I honestly had to check my receipt to verify that the mini loaf was lemon poppyseed because you can't taste the lemon at all. read more

During one of my transitional phases (relocating, not *that* sort of transitioning), I had been coming here every once in a while when Cafe Kindred was still relatively new and owners Gary and Jen were still doing almost all of the work! I'm rarely in the area now, only to visit family. I've noticed how busy it's become when driving by, but haven't stopped in for years until today. Unfortunately Gary wasn't in; I miss my chats with him, but it still felt nostalgic and very much like I remember it. Their current staff is great, and manager Amber is awesome! Laptops are discouraged on weekends. My husband and I enjoyed the ham and egg croissants along with a latte for breakfast. They serve the latte with sparking water to cleanse the palette (never seen that before!) and the cookie that came with it was a nice touch (but honestly stale and didn't eat it all). For lunch, we had the bacon cheeseburgers with fries. I was able to add raw onions. Good portion for both. I'd recommend both meals! The staff were friendly. Moreover, the staff seemed to intentionally avoid eye contact in the hopes of not getting requests. I would not recommend the biscuits and gravy. The bottom of the biscuits were black - and they tasted old and dry. The gravy also didn't seem fresh, a fact they tried to mask by adding more spice. The potatoes tasted reheated and overdone. Great spot to drop in for cafe' or breakfast! Interesting take on poutine and I enjoyed the presentation. The mini cast iron skillets were cute. We ordered the chili poutine and the baked potato poutine. Delicious! My only complaint was some of my potatoes were hard. My low-fat hot chocolate was delicious and cute! (See pic) I enjoyed this place as a sort of melting pot for all ages and nationalities. I sat between English speakers and people speaking Polish; infants and young adults. I loved the vibe! They also sell hats and other gear with their logo on them. Very busy cafe that quickly filled up after we were seated. The staff was very friendly. You should check in with them before taking a seat. Once you are seated plan to return to the register to order and pay. They will bring the food to you. I wanted to like this place more because the atmosphere was cute AF and it seemed to have so much potential when we walked in, but service was disappointing and argumentative, it was not as vegetarian-friendly as I expected, and, while coffee drinks were good, the food was unimpressive. We had to wait a little b/c it was busy but nothing egregious. Once assigned a table we still had to order at the counter, which is unusual, but not the end of the world. However, the menu wasn't really posted anywhere, which put pressure on us to order quickly when we got to the register. We discovered a QR code at our table, but the hostess had expressly told us to order at the counter before being seated. There were surprisingly few vegetarian/pescatarian options - basically, for breakfast entrees, your options are avocado toast or avocado toast. No veggie sausage or veggie bacon, no smoked salmon or vegetarian benedict, none of the basics that would make it more veg friendly. I asked the guy at the register if the curry poutine was vegetarian and he answered "I think so." Not good. I ordered it anyway because we were holding up the line. The real trouble started when my fiance ordered. He got French toast, which came with bacon and sausage. He doesn't like sausage, so he asked if he could sub something for the sausage and the guy goes well we can give you double bacon, citing no other options. My fiance said I don't want that much bacon, can I sub an egg? The guy keeps inexplicably pushing bacon like he's a lobbyist for the pork industry - well, it's not that much bacon, blah blah ... Bro, if you don't do substitutions, then say it. Finally, though, after like 3 or 4 volleys back and forth where my fiance had to repeatedly reiterate that for the love of God he doesn't want that much bacon and can he sub the sausage with anything else, the guy relents and lets him order a scrambled egg. So why the pushback then? We're seated, and our coffee drinks take a really long time to come out. My lavender honey latte was a very nice latte, though not sure the lavender flavor was that discernable. Fiance enjoyed his chai. We never received waters, though I had asked at the counter. Then our dishes come. My $14 curry poutine was very small, with no sides. $14 is a good price for a breakfast entree around here but this was like...a side of loaded fries. It came with an egg on top and was supposed to have cheese in addition to the curry sauce. I saw what looked like maybe teeny shreds but I'd argue this was functionally cheeseless. The curry itself was nice, but there was tons of liquid at the bottom of the dish and it felt like a bunch of separate components rather than a comprehensive dish. Actual cheese would have brought it all together. Maybe I should have complained but we didn't have a chance because... My fiance's French toast came with a big side of what looked like multiple scrambled eggs, but no bacon. He tells the waitress that isn't right, there should be bacon and one egg. She leaves to check on it and comes back several minutes later, receipt in hand, and begins to tell us that, well actually... NO. Showing up at the table with the receipt as though we're too stupid to know what we ordered, and as though it couldn't possibly be the case that their cashier rang us up wrong, is among my top restaurant service pet peeves. I guess we're just supposed to sit here and be unhappy with our meal because you have a little piece of paper that says so. So I cut her off before she could finish that BS and said no, you still need to bring him a piece of bacon, because he ordered eggs and bacon and we had a whole back and forth conversation about this with the cashier, so to take that back and come back with one egg and one piece of bacon. She just goes "OK," and actually takes the eggs (my point had been more rhetorical, as in we're not trying to get an extra free egg out of you so take it if it's that important to you... I guess it was). She comes back all of one minute later with the same dish of scrambled eggs and one slice of bacon and sets them down in a sulky huff and walks off without a word. We both said thank you but she already had her back to us. I seriously thought she might be going off to cry. I wasn't THAT mean. My fiance, who normally doesn't comment about things or get as bothered by bad service as I do, looked at me and actually said something about her seeming absurdly upset. I told him to check his eggs and bacon for spit. Maybe she got yelled at in the kitchen when she took the eggs back or something. All in all, I don't think I'll ever come back here. I mean, it's fine. If you're in the area and, importantly, you eat meat, and don't mind multiple members of service staff arguing with you about your order, it might be worth trying. The coffee is very good so I'd sit down here for coffee and pastry if I happen to be nearby. But as a destination? Pass. read more
