    Bulgogi tots
    Grace W.

Service was good and everyone was friendly and food came out quickly. The focaccia and pineapple buns and butter were the best thing we had. The chicken was very dry despite the sauce on the side: The wedge salad was good, the tots were soggy and the wings were ok, the dry rub lacked flavor. My friend got the pork belly sandwich which was very bland as well.

The host at the front were friendly at first, but when I asked for a seating change, they seemed annoyed, a few other parties also asked the host for different tables. The restaurant is super clean and in a cute little neighborhood of restaurants with a free parking garage, which is nice. The staff and service was excellent. I definitely think the level of service matched if not exceeded the style of food that they are giving. They cleaned our table in between meals and gave us new silverware in between each course and constantly refilled our water. Now the pricing for what you actually get, I would say is not that great however I know I think this is considered fine dining so you get what you get. The salad was extremely fresh and had really good quality, lettuce and toppings. We got the bread for two however a little bit disappointed because it was one slice of focaccia and one roll per person, I feel like for nine dollars they could give you a little bit more for your money. The bread was good, but I don't think I would order it again. I got the short rib and I absolutely love getting short rib whenever I go to a restaurant, it was extremely tender and well cooked however, the dish was very salty. I'm not sure if it was just my batch, but it just felt like there was way too much salt in the dish overall, and this is coming from someone who loves savory dishes. My fiancé got the chicken sandwich and the fries were pretty good and the chicken was really well made on the sandwich however, I feel like for the price that you pay at this restaurant they would do hand cut fries or something a little bit more elevated than their type of french fry they used. The biggest letdown I think was the chocolate cake, I absolutely love chocolate cake, but it definitely missed the mark for me. The consistency of the cake was like cake that was cold in the fridge and needed to be thawed. However, it was room temp and not actually cold. I wish that it was a little bit more moist but the cookie crumbs on the outside of the cake was incredible and I think that they should try to incorporate them into the actual cake. Overall, a really cute restaurant that is pretty unique and while some dishes weren't my favorite they got a pretty high score because the service and cleanliness exceeded my expectations. Not sure if I'll be back but was nice to try out.

    Duck hash

Food was very tasty! My favorite thing was the pastry basket. We shared it among our group of four and it was the perfect size for apps. The duck hash was delicious but I didn't really taste the duck. Service was impeccable. They even gave my friend a card to celebrate her graduation.

Went for Brunch on Saturday. Showed up a bit early for our reservation but were sat promptly and we opted for kitchen counter seats with a view into the kitchen. Place was busy but service was excellent. Order the Tornado Omelet and Chicken sandwich and both were delicious. Look forward to returning and trying more of the menu.

Fruity pebble donut and pepperoni pizza scone

Great brunch spot, perfect for large groups in the back room! My friend hosted a baby sprinkle and there cute custom menu with printed with her daughter's name! The food was delicious and the staff went the extra mile! The pastry basket with Fruity Pebble Donut, Pepperoni scone, and Portugese Cheese Tart, and Yogurt Parfiat was a great way to start off the meal! The scrumptious brioche donut filled with a rich strawberry buttercream frosting and topped with crunchy fruit pebbles was the highlight of the meal! The PB&J Stuffed French Toast had a great balance of sweet and savory. While I'm not a fan of PB&J, surprisingly, I really enjoyed the French toast. It was very decadent and the peanut butter helped to balance out the sweetness. The Croque Madame was a bit too decadent of a sandwich for hubby, it was smothered with cheese and topped with a fried egg. The Scramble Plate was perfect for the kids with scrambled eggs, bacon, and tater tots. I appreciate that there was a kids menu with chicken tenders and scrambled eggs. There was plenty of sippy cups. As I stole a couple of crispy fries that came with my friends' sandwich, I enjoyed it so much that I ordered a side of my own! The brunch came with beer/wine and I enjoyed a glass of Brut and Pino Grio. While I thoroughly indulged in the brunch, the staff was very kind and really went the extra mile. My 3 year old son was starting to turn into a sugar feign and knocked over a wine glass. The staff was super nice and quickly cleaned it up and comforted me. The staff gave a large tray of complementary Chocolate Chip Cookies. The food, service, and ambiance was great and look forward to coming back! Perfect for hosting large gatherings and events (there's even a private bathroom for the back room).

From service to food this was a fantastic experience. We dined during Sunday brunch and were so pleased to see such attention to families given at a truly high end establishment. Staff did not see kids as a burden but as another featured diner. We adored the pastry service, the staff recommended tornado omelette, the kids loved the pancakes and the chicken sandwich. Can't wait to come back and thank you for serving with kindness.

We were a party of 8 for brunch and really enjoyed our time at Ellie Bird. We weren't rushed, and everyone enjoyed their meals. We could actually hear each other as the room had great acoustics. It's important when you're getting together with family that you haven't seen in a while that you can all enjoy each others company with the great food and that we did. The menu was their Brunch menu and it was just big enough to select some delicious and unique options. I had the chicken and waffles and loved my purple Ellie Bird Latte - espresso, ube & thyme. Everyone else at the table seemed to be pretty happy with their selections... the pancakes got great reviews, loved the tornado omelette ... the chicken and biscuit ... so many happy customers! It was a great place to celebrate a birthday too! The birthday boy got pancakes and a candle!! Nice touch! Thanks for the great dining experience. We hope to be back soon. Definitely make a reservation for brunch. They get pretty busy.

    Wedge salad

Ellie Bird gets 4 stars from me. I really, really enjoy the food (both brunch and dinner), the ambiance, and they have a good cocktail selection as well as a small, but well-curated wine list. However, the service has fallen short for us during dinner for one reason and one reason only: they make you order everything at once. Food: As I mentioned, Ellie Bird's food is excellent. I think everything is always well-seasoned, the dishes creative, and always a good selection. I don't think there's a dish I haven't enjoyed, either on the dinner or brunch menu. Service: This is more of an issue at dinner, but Ellie Bird requires you to order everything at once. I understand why restaurants do this, but it drives me crazy, especially when my husband and I are looking to pair wine(s) with our food. We've been in too many situations where the food has just come out too quickly for us to do that. This most recent time at Ellie Bird, we wanted to split one appetizer, then each get salads, and then mains, and I believe I conveyed this quite clearly to our server, but I guess not as the server brought out my husband's salad and the appetizer. So, my husband just left his salad while we split the appetizer. It's not a huge deal (at least a salad is cold!), but once again, we wanted to pair (different) wines with both the app and our salads, so the restaurant lost out on a wine sale there. Other than this issue, which again stems from the order-all-at-once thing, service is generally attentive and they are very good about refilling water. Ambiance: Ellie Bird is really cute with all its bird cages. Nice open kitchen, and it is fun to sit at the Chef's Counter. It can often be quieter at the Chef's Counter as it's tucked into a little nook. A great addition to Falls Church.

    Chicken Sandwich
    William H.

The portions are just too small. We got 3 chicken sandwiches and 2 out of 3 chickens were smaller than the bun itself. For the price of the sandwich, I am expecting a bigger piece of chicken. The all you can eat pancakes are bite size. Can eat all 3 pieces at one time. We must have done 12 refill orders and got embarrassed ordering more. The restaurant is busy and great atmosphere. The service is good. Tried it and will not be going back. Portion is just too small given the price point.

    Chocolate peanut butter tart

We came here for our anniversary dinner and loved it. When we heard it was the same owners as Rooster and Owl, one of our favorite restaurants, we knew we had to come. They had a little note on our table when we got there! Our waitress was very nice and gave some good suggestions. 2 things worth noting: 1) It wasn't super fancy and felt a lot more casual than a typical nice restaurant (not a negative) 2) wine Wednesday! Free glass of wine with any entree, and the wine was delicious! The standouts were basically everything we got, it was all incredible. The pineapple buns were some of the best bread I've ever had and the grilled asparagus had a perfect charred flavor. The hamachi collar donburri was so fun and delicious, and the ragu with the added bone marrow was so rich and delicious. The peanut butter chocolate tart was also one of my favorite desserts ever. Will absolutely come back!!

    Miso black cod
    Patty H.

Fun, very casual atmosphere, including whimsical bird cages over two tables. But the food and cocktails are serious, and so is the attentive service. We started with the wedge salad and tuna tartare, both beautiful dishes and more complex than expected. So delicious. Then had the chicken and the miso cod, again very pretty food, perfectly prepared. I'm giving Ellie Bird four stars only because my $42 Miso black cod was oversalted and miniature - so tiny. Also no acknowledgement that we were there for a birthday. We ordered dessert and it came out without any comment. These details count! Probably won't be back despite the great food.

    Unlimited pancakes

We decided to try Ellie Bird for brunch. We went on Saturday at 10 and it was busy, so definitely make a reservation before going. The inside of the restaurant is super cute, very aesthetic. Some of the tables were even in bird cages. I started off with the Ellie Bird Latte with has Ube in it. It was very good and not very sweet. For my main course, I got the soft scramble French omelette. Personally, I just didn't really like it. The texture of the omelette was weird to me and it didn't have much flavor. The potatoes tasted a bit off to me. I also got the unlimited pancakes for $5, which I would do again. The pancakes are really fluffy and not too sweet. Overall, it was good, I would order something different next time though.

Are the helpings small like many "fine" dining" restaurants? Are are they a decent size?

I would say they tend to be on the reasonable side for fine dining. If you're two hungry adults, I would suggest an entree each and possibly an appetizer :) desert is worth it too!

    Is this establishment kid friendly?

Hello yes! We went on mothers day and there were many families. I also saw they had a few child focused menu items. Enjoy!

Is the bar seating by reservation or first come first serve? Can you grab a drink before your reservation?

Each order comes as one large deboned piece of meat, which is then cut into bite-sized pieces--easy to eat by hand or with a fork. They're available in a variety of flavors. I ordered them dry and got several sauces on the side to mix things up. Highly recommend. Seating - The restaurant has a surprising amount of seating. There's just as much indoor seating as there is outdoor, and possibly even more inside thanks to the bar and high-top tables. It's a great spot to start your night, end your night, or enjoy happy hour with friends after work. Service - For a bar, I thought the service was really good. Multiple waiters checked in on us, and we never had to wait for water or anything else. The recommendations they gave were great, and they stayed attentive throughout the night--even though it was moderately busy when we went. Pro tip: Be prepared to sit inside if you're hoping for a meaningful conversation--the street noise outside is quite loud. Between the main thoroughfare and the neighboring restaurants in the same alcove, it can get pretty noisy. If you value good conversation, you'll definitely want to opt for indoor seating. Pro tip: There isn't much parking in the area, so give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes when planning your visit.

The latte arrived with a nice touch--a small side cookie and a club soda to cleanse the palate, which shows a level of intentionality you don't always find. I requested for the Paneer Tikka Flatbread (not on the menu)- vegetarian version of the Chicken Paneer Tikka Flatbread. The naan pizza was delicious, it was stuffed with cubes of paneer with a side of Tikki Masala dipping sauce. Highly recommend it! You can get the Paneer Pizza next door too! The Paneer Tacos were filling and fun to try, but large chunky blocks of paneer. While I enjoyed the spicy mayo sauce, I wish the paneer was cut up into cubes. It just felt a bit heavy with the paneer. The Spinach Artichoke Fritters (4) were tasty. The Mango Mojito and the Mumbai Mule cocktail weren't that good, but it honestly it's hard to complain when it's only $6/drink. The unlimited weekend brunch at $38 is a great deal and well worth it! There's a good balance between traditional Indian dishes and Western fusion with a hint of American flavors/presentation. Large portion. - Spinach and Artichoke Fritters - Crispy bite-size balls filled with creamy spinach artichoke dip, 4 come in an order and perfect for sharing! - Aloo Bravas - Crispy, diced potatoes very reminiscent of the Spanish Patatas Bravas with aioli sauce and mild masala spicy kick - Butter Chicken - My friend enjoyed it, solid full entree size. I didn't order or try it in, but it looked pretty tasty and could easily why she made a happy empty plate! - Nutella Bread Pakora - Tastes like a bites-size Nutella fried donut! So good we ordered another one! - Helluva Hallawa Trio - I enjoyed sampling the 3 types of Hallawa, ranging in savory (carrot) to more sweet and milky (my favorite). - Mango Lassi - The sweetness of the mango lassi helped to balance out and absorb the spiciness of the food. - Masala Chai - Great ending to a meal, perfectG caffeine pick me up! Paired well with the Nutella bread Pakora. The other dishes on the menu were fun to try, but would probably skip and save room for my faves: - Aloo Sabzi and Katchuri - The dense hollow shell katchuri (similar to a round empanada) made of dhal lentil smothered in Aloo potato curry sabzi was very filling and dense. After a couple of bites, I threw in the towel. - Egg Burgi and Paratha - The masala spicy scrambled egg on paratha flatbread was kind of bland and a very small portion. - Mango Mimosa - While the mimosas were only $4, it was quite tangy and didn't pair well with the meal. I wish fresh mango juice was used instead of mango flavored juice (tastes like Izzy). The lunch buffet (Mon - Fri 12pm - 2:30pm for $23 wasn't the best experience. Admittedly, I came to the buffet at 1:30pm and the food was tepid and sadly overcooked under the heat lamp. The plates were very small and it was hard to fit a bunch of food. I went to the buffet at least 3 or 4 times to try out the dishes in search of the perfect bite, which I sadly couldn't. There were 5 main standard dishes with 3 vegetarian dishes (Dal Makhani, Aloo Ghobi, and Mehti Paneer) and 2 non-veg featuring both chicken dishes (Butter Chicken and Chicken Curry) and a galore of fried fritters/pakoras (spinach, onion, potato) with a couple of new rotating stations with Pani Puri (not much going on) and Spinach Tikki and Fish Pakora fried fritters. The Mehti Paneer was quite greasy with a coat of grease at the top and the paneer was pretty stiff. It wasn't tender. The Dal Makhani was bland. The potato aloo potatoes were brittle as they were sitting under the heat lamp too long. The best part about the meal was the fluffy naan, which was made-to-order. I enjoyed 2 rounds! Order the Masala Dosa crispy! When we got it the 1st time on the lunch special, it was a bit rubbery and soggy. After the server asked us a few times whether we liked it, my hubby relented and told him the honest answer. The server got the dosa re-made to go extra crispy, which did the trick! The masala potatoes paired well with the dosa. I wasn't a fan of the Sambar. Based on the glowing brunch and happy hour experience, I would come back to try the lunch buffet with an early start right when it opens!

Inside Tyson's mall. Introduced my dad to some new Indian dishes! The service was excellent! We…read morewere the only ones there and we stayed for a couple hours peacefully. I love that their naan is thin vs the typical thick kind at restaurants and stores. The lunch special had great choices on it including biryani and butter chicken! Thanks for that! I enjoyed the masala chai tea, nice that it came with tea cookies, just wished it was a larger glass. I figured I'd like masala lemonade, and hadn't seen it on a menu before, the server cautioned me and offered a sample before I order it. sorry to say ew yuck but we tried it respectfully. I was verrryy shocked by the taste, almost tasted ritualistic it was so oddly gross. Lol Best service I've ever had at an Indian restaurant and food was delicious per usual of Indian food. One of my top 5 foods. Go, enjoy!!!
