Hubby and I went here for happy hour (if they have happy hour, we were actually too late for it but that was fine) driving past it several times and saying, "oh, it's finally open! We should check it out." Very glad we did. We had wine (a very nice Malbec) and I also had a cocktail (Empress 75) because I couldn't resist. The bartender gave great advice on which specialty cocktail to choose based on my preferences. We sat at the bar because we didn't have reservations and didn't want to wait 30 minutes (so make reservations!) We chose the sausage sliders and crispy wings and both were very tasty. The chicken wings are crisp, ever so slightly sweet and so good we didn't even use the ranch dipping sauce. The sausage in the sliders is just a tad spicy, perfectly complemented by the pickled onions and aioli. It was a warm night so the restaurant had the patio doors open. It was a holiday weekend and very packed, so a bit noisy but not so much so that we couldn't hear one another. We will be back! read more

So glad this finally opened. It's a great addition to the area. The facility is lovely--very large, well stocked indoor bar and plenty of seating, shaded outdoor seating, and picnic tables outside for the beer garden. The food was very good. The hamburger was served basically rare with a cool center when I asked for it to be cooked medium. They were kind enough to re-cook it. The Barata and tomato salad was very good. They knew we were splitting food and they graciously split both the salad and the hamburger. My complaint, as with many places, is the service. After the waitress took our order, she didn't check back in on us. My friend desperately needed water and I needed a refill on my drink. Will return again. Happy Hour turned Disappointed Hour Unfortunately, my first experience at Stratford Garden left me extremely disappointed, and I do not see myself returning. The biggest issue was the level of staff training and attentiveness. There seemed to be plenty of employees working, yet many were congregating in small groups chatting with one another instead of checking on tables and engaging with customers. For a place operating as a bar and restaurant, especially in an area with so many dining and nightlife options, the service simply did not feel polished or attentive. What really ruined the experience happened almost immediately. When the first bartender/server came to take our drink order, I requested two cocktails at the same time. I was then given what felt like an unnecessary lecture about how it was supposedly "against the law" to serve one person more than one alcoholic drink at a time, although I was told that something like a beer and a shot would somehow be acceptable. The explanation made very little sense to me. I previously worked in the industry, and my understanding has always been that the restriction is not simply "one drink per person." My friends at the table were equally confused by what we had just been told. After she walked away, I looked into Virginia's alcohol-service rules myself because the interaction seemed so strange. The saving grace of the experience was Troy, the bartender who later took over. He was professional, courteous, and actually took my concern seriously. Rather than dismissing me, he went to upper management to verify whether the "one cocktail per customer" rule was an actual policy of Stratford Garden or something required by Virginia law. Troy returned and told me that my original request for two cocktails should not have been refused. He also asked whether management had come by our table to speak with me. They had not--and management never approached our table at any point during the remainder of our visit. Troy even offered to personally make my next cocktail, which I genuinely appreciated and thanked him for several times. Unfortunately, by then the experience had already been tainted. First impressions matter, particularly at a new establishment where the staff should be creating a reason for customers to come back. There were other concerning observations as well. The same bartender who initially refused my order later broke a glass with a very loud crash, and another employee nearly walked directly through the broken glass because he did not appear to be paying attention to his surroundings. Combined with employees standing around talking while tables needed attention, the entire operation came across as disorganized and lacking proper oversight. Troy deserves recognition for being the one person who made a genuine effort to correct the situation, but one good employee could not overcome the overall experience. For a new establishment in Falls Church, there are simply too many other places nearby offering better service, stronger hospitality, and better-trained staff for me to justify coming back. I never thought I would say this, but after this experience, I almost miss the rundown motel that used to be here. At least it did not remind me of such a disappointing happy hour. read more

Came for lunch and to check out the hype of this local spot. It's a solid meet up place. The interior is spacious with a nice vibe. Service was friendly and helpful too. The menu had lots of options with a nice variety of heavier options if you were really hungry as well as small shareable plates too. We came hangry! *Stratford burger-was ok, I was not a fan of the bun. I feel it took away from the burger. It came with fries which were crispy and not greasy. *Fried chicken sandwich- crispy and flavorful *Mac and cheese- omg! Talk about cheese pull! It was good! Good beers on tap too! We were excited to try this reimagined Stratford, and it didn't disappoint. We went for brunch, but my daughter and I ordered the seafood tower from the raw bar. The tuna tartare, fresh oysters and jumbo shrimp were fresh and delicious. My son and mother enjoyed the bananas foster brioche French toast. While very sweet, they both inhaled it. My husband went more traditional with with the burger and an egg on top. No complaints from the burger connoisseur! I also enjoyed their dragon fruit mimosa. Went on a Saturday at 6pm for restaurant week and it was bumpin! Such a fun and cozy atmosphere with good vibes all around. We started with the wings and gnocchi, as suggested by our waitress and neither disappointed! The wings were perfectly crispy and juicy with a slight kick and the gnocchi were extremely flavorful and earthy, with butternut squash and mushrooms. For our entrees, I got the salmon and my husband for the steak burger (a special). The salmon was absolutely delicious and I love that it came on top of sunchoke purée and a side of roasted carrots and kale. HIGHLY recommend. The steak burger was good, but nothing exquisite, just a good burger. To top it all off, we had the bread pudding. Very tasty but a LITTLE dry. Stafford Garden has only been open for three weeks and yet they are operating like an established neighborhood restaurant with great service and food. I was impressed with our waiter who said, "We wanted this place to feel like home". Then after the meal, she asked, did you feel like guest or like you were at home. Her kindness was genuine and appreciated. Yes it did feel more than just another restaurant. It feels comfortable and welcoming like home. The sausage sliders with bacon & shallot jam, Calabrian chili aioli were very tasty. Very unique! My wife said she could eat the Chicken Verde soup every day it was so good. We will be back to try the other entrees and appetizers. I saw someone get the French Dip and it was stuffed with meat. There are also approximately 12 or more beers in tap from various places around the globe. Hopefully Stratford Garden will find a loyal following. Really nice new ish spot in Falls Church. I have not eaten here so I can only speak to the service and drinks. Bartenders are friendly and service has been good the few times I've went. They have several beers on tap including one of my favorites - Rothaus German Pilsner. They also have IPAs and other styles of beer. It's a full bar so you can get wine and liquor too. The food looked good but quite expensive so I have not tried it. I'm sad I moved out of this area but home to go again when back in falls church. read more

We were pretty exciting to try this new neighbor When we got into the restaurant, we soon noticed that the inside decorations were nice and modern, warm and spacey. Orders came quick and tasted great. We did not have special server, you could call any of them to help you. The omelette was cheesy and hot with fresh scallions; coconut prawn baked well and well seasoned; turkey sandwiches were delicious; beef hamburger was good too. We specifically liked the option that they had is switching fries to side salad. That is a very healthy choice for us. Outstanding new spot in Falls Church - went to Stratford Garden for the NFL games and was impressed from start to finish. Focus on quality - fun and different beer/wine/cocktail glasses grabbed our attention and was conversation starter with our group. Staff was friendly and easy going. We started with the Truffle Fries and Brick House Butcher Sausage Sliders--both solid. The sausage for the sliders is from the butcher shop 'Brick House' that is next to Dominion Beer and Wine - they source the meats for Stratford from there. We tried the Cantabrian Anchovies & Burrata--absolutely fantastic. For my entree got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich which carried over very well from the version they had at Dominion - the sesame-poppy potato bun was wonderful. The space is well set up, feels fun yet polished - quality details everywhere. Great spot to watch the games and/or have dinner and drinks. Huge bar area and has huge outdoor area for when weather warms up. Looking forward to going back. read more

We were excited to try this place with its cool vibe and menu so we went 2 days ago (Tuesday, June 2nd around 5:15pm) . We were seated outside and were given a full menu (it was happy hour but never got to see if there is a specific happy hour menu). Almost immediately we were given water but never heard from our server again. I tried to get her attention and then the attention of others floating by but ended up feeling pretty invisible. After about 15-minutes we just walked out frustrated. It didn't help that there were so many staff just standing around. We're pretty tolerant of a lot, especially on a new place, but 6 months the expectations are higher. I shared the experience with a colleague who said the service was "not great". We had a bad enough taste from the experience that we're over it. read more

Omg if you've lived in the area you KNOW how much this space needed to be changed. Well is has and it's glorious! A community table type bier house replicating what's been done at the Falls Church staple - Dominion Wine and Beer. Beautiful interior and yes, it can get loud. Overpriced and nothing special. Food is OK, but overpriced. Wine is $16 for a 4 to 5 ounce pour. And they don't tell you what the winery is, just the varietal. It's really cheap wine. Salmon for $28 was a 4 oz piece of farmed Atlantic Salmon with a few potatoes. Only thing that was reasonable was the beer. If you like German beer, you might find something you like here, but half their selection was German beers, the other half were IPAs. Some of the beers they carry hide behind generic descriptions. Dessert was a stale store bought pastry with a scoop of ordinary ice cream on top. Service was good, but the waiter forgot one of our beers. Would not recommend, and will not return. Food is OK but not a good value. On top of this, their Toast terminal for paying your bill starts with a recommended tip of 20% and goes up from there. Of course you can leave less, which I did, but just gives you an idea of the sense of entitlement this Restaurant has. read more

A wonderful experience all-around and a great addition to the neighborhood! Immediately upon entry, we were warmly greeted with welcoming smile. For a sunday evening, we were able to make an early reservation for a large party that ended up being over 12 people. It was only suppose to be an early meet-up for drinks and then off our separate ways, but we all ended up staying for more drinks and dinner! Tonya and her staff were amazing and everyone in our party had a great time...to include the kiddos. The menu option was plentiful with small bites, full entrees, and a variety of drinks for all! The food was prepared fresh and delicious! We shared for the table, the Truffle Fries, Chips and Guacamole, French Dip, and the Srhimp Cocktail. All very tasty and would definitely order again. Went on a Saturday and it was busy! We were told that it was reservations only unless we sat at the bar. I was really impressed by how quickly our food and drinks came out. We got the wings and truffle fries and they were great! I'm rating it 4 stars because of the lack of baby changing station in the bathrooms. My first visit to Stratford Gardens was incredibly disappointing. A group of us--teachers celebrating the end of a long work week--came in for happy hour. We asked our waiter if we could move two tables together, and he explicitly said yes. He even helped us move them. About five minutes later, a manager named Chris came over and, in a condescending tone, said, "Just so you know, we don't move tables here. We don't move them for a reason." The issue wasn't the policy. If moving tables isn't allowed, that's completely understandable. The issue was how he chose to address us. He spoke to a group of adult women as though we were children who had done something wrong. Before we could even explain that his own employee had approved and assisted with the move, he continued his lecture, didn't allow us to respond, and then walked away. We were so shocked by the interaction that none of us knew what to say in the moment. When we offered to move the tables back ourselves, he told us not to. The entire exchange happened in full view of the restaurant, and it was genuinely humiliating. We could feel and SEE other diners watching. First impressions matter, and unfortunately this was ours. What should have been a relaxing happy hour with friends turned into an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience because of one manager's approach to customer service. There are plenty of restaurants in Falls Church where guests are treated with respect. After this experience, we wanted to leave before we had even received our drinks. We should have waited for the reviews before coming for dinner. It started with my drink- I ordered a top shelf margarita and what I got was what tasted like lime juice out of a bottle. I could not drink it at all! Then dinner-- my daughter and I both ordered steak entrees and it was awful. They both had no taste what-so-ever! My dish came with onions and mushrooms or lack of! I have been meaning to check out Stratford Garden and it did not disappoint! My husband and I came here after attending their rose' tasting event so we needed something to soak up all that wine.The vibe is very relaxed and has that local non pretentious feel. Juliana was our server and she was absolutely lovely, warm and hospitable echoing the atmosphere of this place. Now the food. My husband had the Lobster Lobster Lobster and it was absolutely delicious! Full of lobster flavor and great lunch portion. I enjoyed their fried cod sandwich. The sauce gribiche and curtido were an excellent choice to cut the fat of the fried fish! My only complaint is that the sandwich was a little too wet and greasy.
