We were carded on entry when checking-in to be able to order from the bar (reasonable), but neither of us signed in because we had not been instructed to do so and were seated immediately. It took about five minutes for someone to come wait on us, which we were understanding of because it was a busy Friday evening. We were then carded again, the waitress (who did not introduce herself) incredulously asked my partner if he was "from out-of-town" while holding his out-of-state ID. She outright asked us if our IDs were fake and asked each of us our ages (we are both 25). Our IDs were returned to us, and we thought it was over. The hostess asked us to come up and sign-in, which we were willing to do. The waitress then grabbed my wallet from off of our table and handed it to the hostess as they carded us a THIRD time. They took my partner's ID, and no less than FOUR waitstaff members passed it around to look. Our waitress then WALKED OFF with his ID, presumably to back of house, without a word to us. At this point, we had decided to leave as soon as his ID was returned, and we were ready to call the police if they refused to return it. We felt like a circus sideshow and had never been so embarrassed and disrespected by waitstaff. None of it was worth dining at a restaurant with overpriced apps and only two beers on tap. Sunday buffet the food was okay. I wouldn't go back for the buffet. Some items needed to be refreshed or pulled as we were there after the church rush. The catfish was the star of the buffet. Then a waitress came and served us fairly quickly with appetizer and a salad but took awhile on drinks. After food was served did not see her again till we were ready too leave. she didn't come back to check on us or notice our drinks were empty and didnt even clear anything from our table. To say the place needs an update and clean up is an understatement. We went for Sunday lunch and to start, the table and worn out seats were sloppy wet where it had been wiped down. The wait staff was in a state of confusion during the whole meal and my husband had to get up and find a server to get a tea refill. However, the final thing that will make me never go back, they brought fresh bread to the table along with a tiny roach on the basket. I just walked in to meet the other person in my party and was talking to the hostess and was rudely interrupted by a lady behind me loudly telling me I couldn't have an outside cup. Mam. How about you wait until I am done talking with the hostess or try being polite by welcoming us to your 2.9 star restaurant? The seats were empty but there was a 50 minute wait. We were charged for a $10 membership for alcohol. However, we were not told that that membership was only good until September. We did not find that out until we were leaving the restaurant. Drinks were $12 apiece with nine dollars in tax. The steak was better than it had been in the past. We had three drinks, one entrée, one appetizer, and one dessert and with the membership the bill was over $110. While I don't mind paying for quality food and drink, this did not meet expectations. Add to the fact that they did not bother to tell me that the membership was good for less than a month means I will not be going back. You will have a much better experience for your dollar at Zeke and Lizzy's. read more

Food was bland except the enormous amounts of salt. For a restaurant that touts Cajun this is not what we expected at all. I had their special skin stuffed steak which was awful. My spouse ordered the salmon burger and just received salmon instead. Cajun fries were soggy and looked very seasoned but somehow were still bland. We also ordered pickle chips but again were way too salty. The only good thing about this restaurant would have been the patio atmosphere on the water except they allowed smoking. I am a local to this area and over the years came to love this establishment. The food was great, and the service was good as well. I went often and spent thousands of dollars over the years eating at this establishment as it is very expensive. Until about a few months ago. I'm not sure what's changed but the service with the exception of the teenage boy bussing the tables, whom was excellent and went beyond his job to try and salvage this sinking ship, was horrendous. It was a busy night as it's a holiday and the wait to be seated was fairly long which was very much expected. Once we were seated it didn't take long for the waitress to come. We were pleasant as a group of 8 smiling through the waitresses complaints about how crazy it was just agreeing with her and mentioning how hard the service industry is and how they dont get enough credit. From that point on it was a complete disaster. The drinks we ordered took a half hour to arrive. For those drinks that did arrive as some of the drinks that were ordered never came. Another hour went by and we still had yet to order when the waitress came up apologizing saying she tried to send 2 other waitresses over to take our order but they never did. Finally we did get to order. Still those drinks were not brought even after a reminder that they were missing. Another 30 mins go by and the appetizers finally arrive. Cold and stale onion tanglers and a half plate of chips with salsa. The salsa was good, too bad there weren't enough chips to finish the small bowl. Once again our server went M I A and after another half hour and a total of a 3 hours wait we still had not recieved the missing drinks. Nor one of our appetizers, nor any of the salads with our meals. At this point it was getting late and had no other recourse but to get up and leave without recieving our main course. We tried to explain the situation to the front of house and were met with uncaring attitudes and were charged 42 dollars for 1 mt dew 1 child's Pepsi 1 Dr pepper 1 Moscato a half plate of chips and salsa and 1 plate of cold stale onion tanglers and water. By far the worst service I have ever recieved at a restaurant. This establishment has veered far of course from where it once was and to say it was disappointing is saying how I feel too nicely. I never leave bad reviews and debated on whether or not to leave this one. But I could not in good conscience allow this type of behavior to go unnoticed and without consequence. I will definitely not return nor send anyone their way. I hope this may be a wake up call and this establishment corrects course quickly. read more

Gave a one star only because the Server deserved something! Took group of 12 (family in from out of town). Early dinner almost 5 ish pm Server was good. Prompt and friendly. Food wasn't at the level it should have been for the price. Pasta in fettuccini Alfredo was stuck together. They added chicken when they weren't supposed to. They brought fry's, which were pretty greasy and not very appetizing to look at, when we asked for homemade chips. Hush puppies were almost burnt in the catfish dinner, and coleslaw uneatable, even gross. I ordered the blackened chicken nachos appetizer and the chicken was so dry it felt like chewing cardboard.the lettuce was wilted and turning brown on the edges, ( took it home for the dog since I paid $15 for it. The bread was good, the blooming onion was good, the fried green beans were good. Fried pickles could have been better. 4 adult entrees and 7 children entrees bill well over $300. Pretty mediocre place. My chicken breast was undercooked in places but seasoned well. The fries were fairly overcooked. But boyfriend got the southwest burger and said it was very dry and didn't taste the best. Our server was nice but pretty much didn't come by our table at all. Objectively the worst dining experience I have ever had. There are gross cats walking around outside eating table scraps and they come up begging for food. Always love this place. The River is so amazing in the back. Live music most weekends and a quaint little bar as well. The food is always good and they have a decent salad bar that hits the spot. Worst restaurant in heber if you ask me. The stuffed steak made me sick. Mostly rice that it's stuffed with. The ribeye my sister ordered tasted just like fish. The salad bar is gone which was the only good thing the place had going for them. The little overweight young girl they call a manager is the rudest person I've ever dealt with in a place of business. They act As if it's impossible for their food to be bad and to be honest it's been bad every time I've ever went In there. Which is why I will never be back. After so many times of NOT complaining about the food and the service I finally said something and she was NASTY. I brought it to the owner's attention and they said they would respond asap and I never heard back from them again and they blocked me off fb messenger where I messaged them from. This place is a hit or miss. Some days the food is great! Other times, we leave wishing we had gotten more for our money. They have a fantastic (and expensive) buffet on Sunday with items like ribs, Alfredo pasta, cat fish, baked/fries chicken, dessert and salad bar. Let me start by saying that I usually dont review restaurants owned by people that I know within the culinary world. Chef Billy Klaser and I are NOT personal friends but I do know him through our mutual professions. It is an unwritten rule to not promote, just for the sake of promoting a chef or business, just as it is the same for writing a negative review. Chefs tend to stay away from bashing or promoting others because it tends to muddy the waters and leaves a biased opinion. However, this has gone on long enough for me. Cafe Klaser has been through three locations, and MANY MANY servers and staff. It takes time to find yourself as a chef with those that you employ and to weed out the lackluster wait staff and the reviews of this place have certainly not been warranted. Let me start by saying that there will be a person who will find fault in anything and everything. Those people usually tend to love coming to review locations like YELP and letting their opinions be heard. Seems like self gratification and narcissism lurk within those reviews. I am not saying that these reviewers didn't have an experience that wasnt what they expected but do they know the inner workings of a restaurant and or do they know the inner workings of a restaurant in an area like Heber Springs where the work pool isn't that deep? Megan has been out waitress ever since she started and we always ask for her table. Not that the others are not competent, it's just that it's routine to have her. It must be my OCD, but I prefer to have the same person wait on me. Kinda like Melvin Udall from As Good As It Get's. Megan is as attentive as can be. We never want for anything. Gracious and kind and knowledgable. I have been coming here since the very beginning and have never had a meal that wasn't expected. If I had a meal that wasn't up to par it wasnt because it was horrible, it was because something was forgotten or left off. NO BIG DEAL, shit happens. Chef Klaser is a talented chef who has the credentials to bake it up (Intended. He is a great baker). IF and this ia a very big if, IF there was an issue I am certain that it was related to miscommunication and not actually cooking issues. As a Chef, things become second nature with muscle memory and we can do this in our sleep. We know recipes that we created without having to go back to what was written. It is an inherit ability as a chef to just know what is what and reproduce it time and time again successfully. There was a time when Chef Klaser wasn't in the kitchen and that may have been when someone experienced a meal that wasnt up to his or their standards. I can assure you that Chef Klaser is back in HIS kitchen and producing meals that are worthy of better reviews. The only issue that I have had at Cafe Klasers were the bartenders. But let's look at that first. Heber Springs is a dry county and not a place that has a market on people who know how to make a correct Old Fashion or even a proper Appletini. This was my only drawback, which wasn't that bad, but I found out tonight that that has been resolved. My wife and I just left after visiting for Memorial Day and had an outstanding meal with great cocktails. Chef Klaser is in the kitchen and a new bartender is at the helm and the wait staff runs like s finely wound swiss watch so a great dining experience is for certain. Someone mentioned that the menu was 'heavy' with 'everything fried'. Look deeper. The steaks, hamburgers, baked fish, pastas are all NOT FRIED. Dont order a fried dish and complain about it being fried, seriously. Besides, it's the South. We fry WILL most anything but there are other alternatives on his menu. read more

The food was good, not great but good. Problem with this restaurant is the lack of front of house management. Our server was great but none of the other staff enjoyed being there or wanted to be there at all. Our table was not clean though it was cleared. We saw many staff handling dirty and then dishes with full food, knowing they didn't wash in between. It was a nice day so I decided to sit outside. I ordered the crawfish Po Boy with a side of fried green beans instead of fries and some sweet tea. The service was not really the greatest, but I just reasoned out that I was in the south and people usually take their time in the south. The food was pretty heavy so I lightened the load by taking off half the crumb coating on the green beans and also eating just the crawfish bits with a little bit of bread. I originally deleted my last review bc they seemed concerned how their staff treated us. But they ended up blocking me on messenger so I couldn't reach them. The owners or the manager one. So that tells me they do not care about their customers and they allow their staff to treat ppl like crap. I will never walk in this place again. Medium rare an was well done. Thin and black. It all tasted like fish. All of our food tasted like fish. The bill was $114 for 1 adult and 2 kids. The nastiest food I ever put in my mouth! They took their salad bar out which was the only good thing they had. It's gone. And whoever thinks the cooks are chefs are highly wrong. My toddler could cook better than these ppl. Worst steaks I ever put in my mouth. The Cajun pasta is inedible! The appetizers are a joke. The prices here are for hollywood but the quality of food is for a 3rd world country. And Kelly, the waitress is the worst waitress I've ever had anywhere. If u ever have a problem don't go to management about it or the owners bc they will treat u awful then block u. First visit here. Came in spite of some of the bad reviews. Food was great as was the service. I had blackened walleye and one of the things I loved was the blackened seasoning was not too hot. Salad bar was ample. Husband had smothered chicken and he said it was great. Our server brewed a fresh cup of coffee and we finished our meal with a large piece of peanut butter pie made by the owner.
