Burke, VA - inside the Hmart - visited the Burke HMart for the first time and discovered Cafe L'ami inside the store. The Cafe is small and tidy and has a different ambiance than the rest of HMart. It's cute and featured whole cakes but also small sized pastries. One thing to note is that you must pay for cafe purchases in the cafe. After ringing you up, they will pack your baked goods in a clean white paper bag and staple it shut with your receipt on the outside. We brought home a small sharing size sweet potato cake perfect for two and a very tasty blueberry scone. Both tasted fresh and delicious. We will definitely return. read more

It's in Hmart so ambience is not so great but given we come to this Hmart often my daughter and I will often get a treat. She loves the macarons and the boba tea isn't bad. We got cakes for bday and they were ok, convenient to us but not the best (but just fine for a kids birthday). The pastries are pretty solid and will last 1-2 days. I haven't had any that our family did not like. Mostly get the cream filled pastries but also some of the croissants. Overall solid with extra points for a being convenient location in the Burke area. read more

This place is adorable, but I was unaware it was inside the HMart (back right corner when you enter) it's a little cold since it's by grocery freezers so I don't really recommend it as a cafe to hang out or lounge in. But they do have some cozy table to do so if you like. I had a purple latte. They are like alot of other Korean bakeries in the area as far their tea, coffee, and bakery offerings, altho a little bit higher priced than some of the others I usually go to in Annandale. Castella loafs were $4 each which I buy often elsewhere. The staff is kind and was also wonderful at letting us and other shoppers know that all their breads were going on 50% off at 630 and it seemed to draw a timely crowd. Would not make a special trip for this bakery, but it is nice to know it is there and should stop by when I go to this HMart. read more

I desperately needed a coffee and thankfully was going grocery before 8pm like a normal person for once, grabbed a vanilla latte from them and it was so delicious!!! What a wonderful little cafe with beautiful cakes. I had a hard time with this review because there are a few downfalls but if you are aware it can help your experience. I didn't have an issue with this but friend did- the cafe is inside H-Mart and you can smell all the fresh seafood. This really bothered her, I personally was fine. The other issue is some of the single serve items were frozen so you couldn't eat them there. This was disappointing because we wanted to share a treat and tea and talk for a bit. The cakes are beautiful. My friend picked one out for her birthday that we took with us. It was the Green Tea with strawberries. It truly was stunning but I wanted more flavor to it, I would try chocolate next time to compare. But my friend LOVED it. So I give the cake to go a 4 star review. My tea was very yummy - the Hawaiian I believe. Nice and fruity. They made it less sweet for me as well. My friend had the Taro milk tea and enjoyed it too. So, if you want to sit and eat your desert make sure you ask if it is frozen first! read more

We ordered a Green Grape Ade (I actually enjoyed this drink, as it really tasted like someone just squeezed the juice from green grapes and poured it all into a cup; all-natural and a freshly-squeezed grape taste with no much added sugar), and an Omija iced drink (this was a bit too watered down, so it was pretty disappointing). In the evenings, you can find their pastries marked at 50 percent off, due to the items being made fresh daily and the cafe having to get rid of the remaining inventory. One solo employee there, so it will take some time if there is a line or a group to get your beverages. The cakes are great but in the past year or so the prices went up from $25 to $42. I was there two weeks ago and I asked to woman who seemed to be the manager of the place if they raised the price. She said yes. I said but this is too expensive and you might loose customers. She said oh well. That's ok. Funny thing is that while I was there three sets of people came, saw the price and left. A nice little Korean bakery tucked in the corner of H Mart that sells a variety of baked goods, cakes, and beverages (coffee & Korean/bubble tea). And although it is located inside H Mart, it functions as a separate establishment since you pay for their products at the Cafe L'ami register. We've bought cakes, macarons, bread, pastries, bubble tea and coffee. Everything is delicious but coffee is just ok. If you were to buy from this place, it is best to come in the morning as they tend to run out of things like bread by the evening. If you're out running errands at H Mart, stop by Cafe L'ami for a little pick me up or quick coffee date. read more

This has always been my go to place for the best bubble tea. Last year they stopped making the frozen ones but that was okay because they came out with the brown sugar bubble tea... which was amazing. I went today and was so disappointed. The cup size has been significantly reduced and was so flimsy that the lid wouldn't stay on. The brown sugar that uses to be artfully drizzled around the sides was just squirted into the bottom of the cup. It was impossible to get it blended into the rest of the drink. The boba was not consistent in texture as if there were several batches mixed together. Some were gummy and some were super firm but none were just right. I also bought some of their baked goods which were way too expensive for what they were. They are way more than other Korean bakeries in the area. I question the wisdom of having a bakery cart full of cream cakes (with a do not touch sign) but mark them $3. They weren't even wrapped which made me uncomfortable. Considering all of their baked goods are sold individually wrapped, I just don't get why they were all just out there for people to stand next to and/or touch. The sign was pretty small. Even the presentation in the glass cases was not appealing. It is like they aren't even trying. Overall, I think the quality has really gone down which is sad. I probably won't be back. read more

This bakery is located inside Hmart in Burke, VA. I came here to get a chocolate cake for my sister's birthday. They gave me free candles and a happy birthday sign/cake topper. It was nice because I didn't have time to swing by and pick them so it was a lifesaver. The cake was a hit and it was delicious! The cake part was moist and it wasn't too sweet but it was very tasty. Just a nice combinatio and was perfect for dessert. I also picked up some pastry/bread for the road and they were also very tasty. I definitely go back and highly recommend. read more

Cafe L'ami is a Korean bakery in food court area (located in the back) of the new H Mart in Burke, Virginia. They sell assorted drinks such as Korean Tea, Coffee, Bubble Tea, Smoothies, and Ade/Iced Tea. Along with drinks, they sell different Korean pastries and goodies! They have fairly large macarons on display, as well as beautiful cakes. Even though it was a chilly rainy day, I ordered a Taro Bubble Tea. It was pretty good, but a little too icy for my liking. You also couldn't chose your sweetness level, like some places allow. I'm excited to give this place another try soon and order more variety! read more

While exploring Hmart I became thirsty and why not get bubble tea? I decided to get thai tea with bubbles and a coffee bun. The thai tea was made from powder but didn't really have the same taste that I'm use to from the thai restaurants and the boba was just the wrong texture. The bakery was clean and organized and the drinks came out pretty quickly. The coffee wasn't anything special. I wish there was a filling in the middle but its just plain coffee bread. read more

Ignore the rating on this comment, this establishment doesn't even deserve a 3-star rating, I am only doing this to bypass the "pay-to-play" system that Yelp supports. My oldest daughter has allergies toward walnuts, pecan, cashew, and pistachio. Everywhere we go, my wife and I would carefully read the active ingredient labels and even go as far as asking if the factory of origin handles other nut products. We do this because my daughter is still a child and we don't want to deny her the joy of an occasional sweet. Last Saturday, we bought a cream cheese bread from Cafe L'ami in H-Mart at Burke. Once again, we've carefully read the ingredients label and it said it didn't contain any nuts what-so-ever. Several days later, my child was having it for breakfast and after four or five bites, she began to complain that her stomach was causing her pain. Soon, mild symptoms of rash began to cover her body. My wife then peeled into the bread and confirmed her worst fear; there was A BIG CHUNK OF WALNUT inside the bread! Luckily, my daughter's symptoms wasn't severe enough for us to administer the epipen but had she continue to consume the bread, it would've sent her into convulsion and caused respiratory inflammation. I know this because I take her to food allergy test myself and have witnessed these symptoms personally. Without belaboring the point further, we won't be going back to Cafe L'ami because of their feeble understanding of cross contamination in food and the apparent lack of attention and accountability for their products. Just tried a red bean bun that was sold at a sundries store I frequent in crystal city. Definitely going to be visiting this bakery. The past was flavorful and had the exact amount needed to goo with the bun and the bun was fresh and slightly chewy, perfect for eating with or without a drink. I'm happy too see these available to us here, so now I learned about cafe l'ami and will visit in person soon. read more
