The reason for the 4 stars is because I've been to this location before for breakfast, and it HAS been amazing. However... this experience was a 2 star experience at best. Everything except for the eggs was cold. The coffee tasted like it had been sitting for an house. The grits weren't even lukewarm. The flavor was there, but I had to ask for them to be microwaved. Even the croquetas - they were delicious, but had obviously been sitting out. definitely does the job and the staff here are great... was at the hospital visiting someone and was surprised to hear they had a carreta by the entrance. I stopped in omw out and ordered grilled steak with sweet plantain, and steam veg. Food was good.. just wish the took they steak off the grill a little sooner .... but best thing was definitely the staff. everyone was super friendly and helpful with all of my question.. that alone made me give them an extra star. read more

2 1/2?stars. Five stars for the coffee but one star for the food. I am at Mercy Hospital often for business and it has been a treat to stop here on my way out for a cortadito or cafe con leche. The coffee is perfection. It is always ready immediately and the servers are sweet. One day this week however, it was lunch time so I decided to get what I thought would be a quick lunch. What a mistake. I ordered grilled fish and vegetables at the counter and paid. I waited at the pick up counter.....and waited, and waited. I said something after about 10 minutes and the woman expediting orders just took my receipt. By 20 minutes I had enough and went to the cashier to ask for my money back. I could not wait any longer. By the time the manager came out, at about the 25 minute mark, my order was ready. I ate what I could of my meal. The fish filet had a tough exterior, although the inside was moist. The veggies came from a bag (which I saw the cook use). I would never eat food here again! From now on it's only coffee! read more

This Carreta is located inside Mercy hospital (horrible hospital) . It looks just like any regular Carreta but perhaps in a mini size way. This cafeteria is stacked with yummy fatty foods , which I totally love . They are open until 10:00 pm So if you get the munchies while in this horrible hospital you will not be disappointed . I usually have the chicken vaca Frita its so tasty. With a palmerita for dessert . I enjoy the food and the place very much it gives a moment to forget your sorrows and enjoy a nice hot plate of food . I love all the ladies that work here ,they are so cute and sweet . Only in Miami can you sit and watch over a loved one in the hospital while sipping on a colada and munching on croquetas. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law has been ill for about a year now and throughout that year she has been in and out of Mercy Hospital a few times for treatment. Fortunately, we do not have to succumb to hospital cafeteria food (although the food at this hospital isn't that bad actually) and we can indulge in a little Cuban fix instead when we are there. La Carreta in Mercy Hospital's lobby does not have a full menu, but they do have the basic Cuban staples like bistec empanizado (breaded steak), pollo a la plancha (grilled chicken), masitas de puerco (fried pork chunks), and media noches (midnight sangwiches). They also have daily specials with other Cuban delights such as ropa vieja (old clothes), sopa de platano (plantain soup), and carne con papas (meat with potatoes). Is the quality of the food excellent? No, but it does the trick. Is it better than cafeteria food? Yes. Is it more expensive than other Carretas? A little bit Oh, and word to the wise, be careful with what you choose to eat here and how often you eat it. My husband was scheduled for surgery at Mercy. We left the house early and I did not have time to eat in the morning. So when 11AM rolled around I was starving. The girl at reception told me that there was a La Carreta in the main lobby of the hospital. Que cosa?!?! YES! I was so happy that I did not have to settle for hospital food. First things first. The place is pretty dark & dingy. The workers appeared bored and annoyed that there were actually people that wanted to interrupt their conversations to order food. I ordered a Mini Cuban Sandwich, fries and a soda. The food comes out pretty fast. The mini sandwich is pretty mini, but more than enough for me. It tasted fine. It's kind of hard to screw that up. I was happy to have gotten a big ol' plate of fries. But my joy did not last long. They tasted like they had been fried in rancid oil. So those ended up being dumped. Since they pretty much cater to a captive audience, the prices are steeper than normal. But that was expected. I will not say that I will not go back. Because quite frankly, if I am held hostage at Mercy again, I may not have a choice. Either that or starve. But then again. I try to avoid Mercy like the plague. Sort of in the same league as Kendall Regional except with a nicer view. read more

My meal wasn't as great as the meals at their location on Calle Ocho, but considering the tiny space here my vaca fritta de pollo (shredded chicken) was pretty awesome. I decided to write a review of this place because over the last two years I've spent hundreds of hours at Mercy hospital visiting my grandfather, whose been hospitalized so many times I've lost count. It is great having an option other than hospital cafeteria food. Having a place to get a hot meal and a good cup of Cuban coffee has been a life saver. Plus, the same woman has worked there for years, so it is nice to see a warm, familiar face when we come visit. This is definitely not the best La Carreta in town, but it has been so convenient that I thought it deserved four stars. read more

Had to visit a relative at the Hospital stopped for "un cafecito" and the young girl at the register never had the courtesy to look at us in the eyes. She was talking to someone else about private affairs. The cafecito was awful nothing like La Carreta at 87 ave and Bird. Hope the managers pay more attention to the service. read more

The staff can hardly speak 2 words of English let alone a respectable form of Spanish. It's crap crap crap. Outdated interior disgusting food long, lines for check out and rude workers. Go outside across the road to Au Bon Pain - still same crappy service and poorly trained non English speakers who speak a broken vulgar form of Spanish will be there too but at least the food is better. read more
