I've had several things on their menu and some of my favorites are the chiptole turkey melt sandwich and artichoke dip. I love how soft the bread is for the sandwiches. The vibe was cool and all but the experience was kind of unconventional, to me at least. Unconventional because as a 1st time customer, I didn't know if I had to sit myself or wait so I felt kinda awkward. No welcome or anything or a "hey just sit anywhere you want". So I just took initiative, grabbed a menu and sat at an empty table. There's a sign that said "order at the bar" but the barkeep would go to other people and ask what they wanted. Okay, that's fine... Trying to follow the rules so I don't single myself out, I went to the bar and was asked for my ID, but why? I wasn't ordering drinks and when other people came, the barkeep didn't ask the other customers for their ID so I felt some type of way but whatever. We proceed to order the Philly and Mac & Cheese. Philly tasted great because it also came with dipping sauce. The only thing lacking was that I felt it wasn't enough. Plus It seemed like I had more bread as opposed to meat. Mac & Cheese was great also, it was soft and creamy plus it had crunchy bits. It had the consistency of valveeta cheese. We asked for the check, we waited, waited some more so I finally went to the bar and closed the tab that I didn't order drinks with, just food. I like the vibe, its like being in a classic tattoo studio with posters on the wall with classical prints from different time periods. Not a big establishment or room inside but just enough to have a modest amount of 30 people. It's a nice joint but not really for me, I'd probably order through Uber eats with this place. read more

Is this place divy AF? 100%, absolutely. Is this the best sandwich I've ever had? Most likely, YES! Ordered the Brutus, added pep, ham, Salami. Totally worth the $4. This sucka is packed with meats. Delicious French roll toasted,and cut in half. You know it's a sandwich of love if it's cut in half. Side Caesar salad just Beautiful! Toasted croutons. Look and taste like they're in house. Toasted oregano. Lemon included. Creamy Caesar on the side! Last. The pickle spear. Boring plain pickle? NO! It's a zesty dill! Perfect. Here's the deal. Is it in a great location? Na braaa. It's not. The people that hang out outside the establishment are not in a good spot. The people that work there are rough around the edges. Typical PNW downtowners. Love this place! The staff is friendly and welcoming. When I went here with my partner it was mid afternoon and we wanted a quick bite to eat and a drink. The menu options are great and they have vegan options! I had like a reuben sandwich but with seitan and it was delicious! An authentic dive bar that really hits all the marks: walls filled with beer-centered memorabilia, a reasonable array of beers on tap and in cans/bottles, your standard selection of hard liquor with an emphasis on the classics (saw a LOT of old fashioneds being served), really fresh and delicious food (my sizable chicken Caesar was to die for and my wife's BLT a delight), and bar staff who are somehow able to keep everyone's orders straight even when the place is a zoo on a Friday night. Parking can be a bit of a pain, but that's on the city. Overall, a must visit when in search of lunch or dinner in the Hilltop area - and worth the drive if you're not. We'll be back soon! read more

What a great find! We love a divey vibe, but to pair that with amazing food...we were floored. I had the soup of the day, chili and beans, and I ordered the SmokeStack on the recommendation of the newest bartender, Isaiah. He was super helpful and kind sharing that he used to be sitting on the other side of the bar and today was his first day behind the bar. I wouldn't have known as he genuinely seemed comfortable behind the bar. All the food was delish and we have been back since for the food and to admire all of the Rainier memorabilia. read more

First, the photos online are soooooo much better then the actual bar in reality. The inside is super sketchy. And the bar was full with people having conversations and drinking. Dive bar with really good comfort food. We had mac n cheese that had strings of cheese forming as we lifted our forks--really cheesy, and the noodles were not mushy at all. They were out of the special (it sounded great) but it was our fault since it was late. My partner had a sandwich which he said was great. They also had lots of good beer on tap. My wife and I shared the Turkey Pesto and the appetizer, bleu cheese Meatballs, and both were absolutely delicious. To be honest, the outside area made us think twice about stopping in, but don't let that fool you! Once you walk through the doors, the atmosphere is clean, friendly, and very welcoming. Always a great experience here! I come here frequently for sandwiches and a couple rounds, but have yet to write a review.. so here goes! I think I've tried every sandwich on the menu and you can't go wrong with any of them! Soups of the day are always good, and I like how they serve Tim's chips instead of fried foo(fries, tots, etc). Adds a nice, local PNW, touch. There has been a turnover in staff recently, but everyone is still very nice, accommodating, and attentive to you and your table. And if you are wanting a clean, fun, but classic bar-style venue then this is the place for you! They have so many cool, nostalgic, vans vintage decor everywhere including Rainer through the decades and some abstract artwork (they even have a tv that ONLY plays old Rainier commercials! ). Came here on the advice of a friend. We rolled in around 7 and decided on the Friday special of a Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder. Crab Roll was meh, okay--chowder was delicious. We stuck around for a few hours and had a few cocktails. A friend stopped in to hang out for a bit. The place was pretty busy with a change of crowds over the time we were there. Yes to everything about this place! It's been on my bookmarks for quite awhile, but I don't get down to Tacoma all that often. Then when C19 hit they moved to a take out only platform. In fact, I checked the website last Friday and it still says "open for takeout," which kinda implies there's no in house service BUT I wanted to pick up and go to Odd Otter, so that was perfectly fine. I got there pretty early on Saturday and found that they are, in fact, open for dine-in services, including bar sitting. Seems like they're still working off of a smaller menu, but it has plenty of things I want, so it's all good. I went with a vegan Reuben and subbed a side salad with it. When I asked for ranch the bar keep (very possibly the owner?? He was great!)) confirmed they have vegan ranch. I stated that I'm vegetarian, so it's whatever. I'm not 100% certain which ranch version I got, but it was **fantastic**. Very possibly one of the best ranch variations I've ever had and I'd love to just buy a bottle! The Reuben I got was also really, really good and huge- I most certainly got my bang for my buck, it was the only meal I had that day it was so filling! I sat at the bar while the order was being prepared and I definitely like the vibe to this place. It's very unassuming, but I wouldn't go as far to call it a dive bar...just one of those funky neighborhood bars that I love so much. Stopped by during lunch and it was shockingly busy, even though there is a lot of construction around the area and it was a workday. The vibe is really bare bones bar but the people are friendly and the food is delicious!!! The vegan Philly is absurdly good. The bread is soft and chewy, toasted to perfection. The homemade seitan rivals many all vegan spots I've been to. Someone in that kitchen is a vegan or loves a vegan, because that vegan sandwich was the bomb. read more

Coming back from Seattle today, and discovered this cool little bar in a neighborhood in recovery. Local parks HAD encampment challenges but the city had cleaned that up quite a lot. The bar is in a healing neighborhood on the rise, road work and building improvements are happening all around. 1111 is in a humble building, with outside seating and a great vintage feel. PLENTY of fun local color, and a cool young energetic and positive staff. They have a sign up front that you order at the bar, Id recommend doing that. This is a bar that serves food not a Restuarant that serves drinks, so keep that in mind. We stopped by for Sandwiches on my brother in laws recommendation. The service was pretty fast getting initial drinks. While waiting, the bartender came by to adjust the thermostat because they have to keep the door open for air flow, made it a bit chilly. We wouldn't have asked that to be done, but everyone seemed happy it was. Food wise, I appreciate vegan and meat alternatives as often as I can get them. I was able to get a chicken alternative Buffalo style sandwich. Ive had plant based proteins like this before, so the texture, and flavor suit my palette just fine, The roll the sandwich came on was crispy, but soft on the inside. The buffalo sauce was tangy and flavorful. I upgraded my chips to soup and the Sausage and vegetable soup was just the right amount. My sandwich also came with a dairy free cheese. Im lactose intolerant, I have to have dairy free cheese or none at all, my protein option - to be plant based, is an ethical choice. My wife and brother in law both got the Philly steak, which is made with a flavorful cheese sauce which my brother in law found out can be added on the side as a dip. My sister in law got a chicken salad and had said it was nice the chicken was shredded not chunked, All in all this simple lunch was an impressive Sunday experience I would easily go back for. Im starting to see the Tacoma area is a wealth of unique food choices, worthy of weekend adventures as often as they can be had. read more

I love a good sandwich spot. This place is among the best I've been too. They have a lot of vegan options here, and I like vegetarian food. However, I do eat meat and I usually avoid vegan protein options for flavor and texture reasons. The vegan sandwiches here are disgustingly good. Even when I'm done, my brain is in a state of bliss from the sandwich. It's easy to make a good sandwich. It's very hard to make a perfect sandwich. The bread has to be great. The sauce has to be on point. The protein has to be prepared well. The veggies and complimentary items need to be fresh and flavorful. Peterson Bros 1111 comes close to perfection. My favorite is the Vegan Reuben with a side of chimichurri sauce -- I'll be ordering 2 of those from now on. It's elite. The Vegan Buffalo Melt is also great. I personally don't like the Vegan Melt as much, but it's a solid sandwich too. The sandwiches hold up well out of the fridge with a quick oven reheat at a low temperature. This place is so good! My boyfriend and I ordered their Philly, and chipotle turkey sandwich to split. The way they wrapped it allowed the sandwiches to still be hot when they arrived.
