I have had this place bookmarked on my Yelp for what seems like for ever so we finally came after the world cup finals. We sat outside. After a while, I went in to see if maybe we had to order inside or what, because nobody came out and we never got menus. As I came up to ask, the waiter apologized for forgetting about us and followed me out. No big deal, he looked tired, honestly. We ordered a Banh mi pho and the grilled pork chop with rice. We also ordered a Vietnamese coffee and a Thai tea. Pros: portions are very good and the food quality is good. The broth was also very tasty. Sitting outside was also a delightful people watching experience in great Tacoma weather. Cons: my plate was chicken. I noticed right off the bat but tasted a piece just to be sure. Our tired waiter came by to check up on us and I asked if it was chicken and he instantly knew I had ordered pork, and said he had put in pork and didn't know what happened so he went inside to check. I mean, hey, my food was good overall, except my tea was kinda powdery. He brought back his ticket and showed us he put it in correctly but the kitchen gave me chicken. No big deal. He then returned and offered us someone's cancelled order so we went home with a free order of yellow curry (which, by the way, was a bit on the bland side if I'm honest). He also gave us a discount for the chicken mishap. La Ca' 38th is a hidden gem of a Vietnamese restaurant, tucked inside a converted two-story house on the corner of an intersection! I went to the La Ca' Bar on 6th Ave late one night with some friends but was excited to try this one, which I heard this one recently opened in Lincoln District. Inside, the space is modern and cozy, complete with bar seating. I settled into a nook with counter seating by the window. The waiter that day was super friendly and kind, which made the experience even better. The menu has all the classic Vietnamese staples you expect of such a restaurant in America, but what caught my eye and made me think this place might be the real deal were more niche offerings like banh coc and nem cuon. Since it was a warm day and I was craving something light and veggie-forward, I ordered the salmon spring rolls and the grilled pork patty spring rolls (nem cuon), around $10 each. The spring rolls were presented beautifully, wrapped well, and came with slightly unique dipping sauces (though very similar I think I liked the dipping sauce that came with the nem cuon just a little more). The salmon spring roll was very pleasantly surprising - the skin was slightly crispy and the salmon inside was a nice thick piece. Extra points that the spring rolls were not mostly noodles - they had big pieces of lettuce, cucumber, and herbs, as it should be! I once got to try a little of the pho from my friend when we went to La Ca Bar and believe it was good, but I definitely want to come back here (or any of La Ca's restaurants) for a full meal. This place is easy to miss while driving by, but I'm glad I stopped in. At first glance, it looks more like a cozy restaurant than a bar, and I was a bit surprised to learn it's actually a bar-restaurant concept. The bar is tucked into the corner with just a few stools that blend right in with the dining area, giving it more of a casual, laid-back restaurant vibe. The open kitchen concept is a nice touch--you can watch your food being prepared, which adds to the experience. However, there was some arguing among the kitchen staff while I was there, which took away from the atmosphere a bit. That said, the food was fantastic. Generous portions, flavorful dishes, and all reasonably priced--most mains were just under $20. Service was quick and friendly, which made the visit even better. Overall, despite the small hiccup with the kitchen vibe, I'd definitely come back. The food and value more than make up for it! read more

I have frequented their 6th Ave location plenty of times and this is very similar in both menu and vibe! It's more quaint and cozy than 6th Ave due to smaller (more intimate) size, but I kind of love that! The staff is very friendly and accommodating, making sure we have everything we need and refilling waters at reasonable intervals. I couldn't decide between a soup or Bahn Mi, so I ate Chicken Curry there and ordered a sandwich to go! Their bar selection is solid and they have 4-5 popular beers on tap. I have been to the LA Cà Bar over in the central neighborhood of Tacoma and we have been keeping a very close eye on this location ever since we first spotted it off of 38th for it to open. It did at last and we went there more or less in a prompt manner to give this location a try. The location is nice and inside is clean, sleek and has a homey vibe to it. We proceeded to order and get cocktails and they were so good! I got an alcohol version of Vietnamese Iced Coffee which was superb! Steve got a Lychee Cocktail which was good as well! For the meal I got the Chicken Curry Soup or Pho and it was good! Due to the curry it was a little richer than most of my chicken pho experiences and I took some home. It made very good leftovers! The soup was abundantly flavorful! I look forward to trying their Banh Mi sandwiches but on our first visit the soup won me over as it was a wet, rainy and cold day outside. So I eagerly anticipate when that visit happens. This location is ridiculously close to my house which is cool as the neighborhood was in need of a nicer place with cocktails. read more

We have frequented their first location when they had probably the best happy hour menu that we drove from Federal Way weekly. I heard they recently opened up a second location which is great as the parking at their first location is super small and limited. I also signed up for their deals on Facebook and had an offer for a buy one get one free banh mi which we haven't tried from here. As we entered, we were greeted by a friendly male waiter who told us to seat ourselves anywhere. We decided on a table and we were given water and menus. We decided to go with the Banh Mi Pho as my boyfriend had originally wanted pho cause he wanted some hot, but I told him this came with a bowl of pho broth and is like a Vietnamese French dip. The waiter told us that was a great choice and one of their popular ones. They also have the jalapeños on the side (though they will put in for take out orders) which is great as my boyfriend asks for jalapeños to be taken away so I got them. The hot chili oil they have on the table is great and added a perfect kick to my banh mi and broth. The sandwich did start falling apart with each dip so it got messy and I had to grab everything by hand. I should have asked for utensils but since the waiter was doing other stuff, I didn't want to bother him. Service is very casual, the waiter would check on us once and refilled our water once. The waiter spent most of his time talking with staff. The inside of the restaurant has a bit of a dim lighting with a modern look. The bar looks really nice. There were several TVs playing different medias from movies to a sports match. The restaurant can definitely accommodate several party sizes and is a lot bigger than I originally though. The bathroom was clean, but they did run out of paper towels so I had to use toilet paper to wipe my hands. I'm hesitant to come back as the prices for their phos are more expensive ($18) than most pho places for one size so we might just be back for banh mis or appetizers. Having enjoyed a family meal here late last year, I stopped in a couple of days ago for a lunchtime bowl of beef pho. It was very tasty and featured a generous portion of both meatballs and sliced roast beef, along with a rich broth and the usual side add-in (bean sprouts, basil, and jalapeños). Overall a pleasant experience, but the price seemed a little higher than expected compared to other similar restaurants and the service, though adequate, was minimal with no water refills and a notification that my bill was ready at the counter only five minutes after my food had arrived. There was a single male server, but only 8 customers total while I was there and two departed shortly after I arrived. This is the second location for a locally owned restaurant, which advertises itself as offering Vietnamese street food. That's an accurate description but, as it is an inside sit down place, I expected more than "here's your food, here's your hat, what's your hurry". Overall, a disappointing second experience which I hope doesn't become the norm. read more

Edit: I'm sorry but you must think all of your customers are bad at math. Your restaurant gave me an itemized bill when it was time to pay. They did not know if I was going to pay with card nor cash. Yet, the costs were already incorporated to each item. None of which equal to the 2.99% card charge. I was charged $3.05 for a $3.00 soda, $10.50 for a $10.00 salmon fresh roll and $18.54 for $18.00 mini rice crepe before tax. While these were small increases, it was not a reflection of your menu prices. The 2.99% would have been charged at the end HAD I used a card. You automatically gave a roughly a range of 2-16% charge to your customers meals in their bill regardless if they were using a card or not. That was not listed anywhere. Before I got my check, there was literally a table of young kids behind me who struggled to pay their bill in cash and dug out coins to pay their own total. You were lucky they didn't pay attention to the menu's price that deeply. Be cautious of their prices and ingredients that they forgot to list. The prices are not the same as their menu when they give you the check. While all the food has an increase in prices, it was small enough you don't notice it on the check if they didn't give you an itemized receipt. We ordered 5 items all of which had variations of a slightly higher price than what was listed on their menu. I'm not sure if it's because they thought people didn't pay attention and could get away with it or just too cheap to redo the menu. Either way, it's unethical business practices. The food was okay. They had a mini crepes on the menu that wasn't served at their other location. Unfortunately, they didn't cook the shrimps all the way through for any of my crepes. Thai tea was good and their salmon fresh rolls had onions in it that wasn't listed in the menu. Makes me question what other ingredients they forgot to list. Their banh mi was mediocre but passable if you're craving it. My server was really nice and attentive so that was the saving grace to the dining experiences we've had here. read more
