Beautiful place to stay with a warm pool and cool pool. The rooms are wonderful. The people working there couldn't be nicer. We've been there numerous times and will continue to do so. It's only a couple blocks to Duvall the Main Street. The food was delicious and excellent at the Marquesa in the morning and evening. Came in for breakfast today. We shared the Tropical Fruit and Berries which came with yummy Greek yogurt, fruits and honey. We also shared the Garden Omelette with Cotija cheese. This was a perfect pairing and very filling for two. We asked for regular coffee and wanted it to be more like cafe con leche so we asked them to heat up the milk and they frothed it and gave it to us happily. We had an amazing time at Cafe Marquesa! Best dinner of our entire trip. We had the crab cakes which were pure crab- no bread here. Complimentary amuse bouche and bread were great as well. I had the shrimp and grits as my main entree. Wow. Best I've had outside of New Orleans. My husband has a fish that was prepared New Orleans style with red beans and grits. We also had their key lime pie and beignets, but were a little too full at the end to really enjoy them. Charlotte was our server, and she was so attentive and helpful. She made sure we had an excellent dinner, and had great suggestions. She also told us about the local event going on during our trip. Some other guests got drunk and angry during our dinner, and tried to ruin the experience for everyone. However, Charlotte and the male host/manager of that evening handled it well and made sure we felt safe. We loved this restaurant, and would recommend it to anyone visiting or local. read more

Service was spot on, the decor in this Historic former residence is lovely and wonderful dining memories were made! How thoughtful to wish us a Happy Anniversary in chocolate writing on the beignet plate! Their breakfast was equally delicious! A terrific dinner served in a room that's very upscale yet feels quite comfortable. It's located on a prime intersection just a short couple of blocks off Duval, but still manages to feel tucked away while still being in the middle of things. The service is of that silky smooth variety, where they're right there when you need them and not there when you don't. There's a nice variety of entree and appetizer choices, but I went seafood. The she-crab soup was stunning, with a rich shellfish broth that gave it heft while spotlighting the delicate bits of meat. Charming restaurant situated at the corner of Fleming and Simonton street. My husband and I decided to do the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Each course had a nod to low country fare with a level of complexity. The wine selections were unexpected but made for some fascinating pairings. Chef Lee was on hand to provide insights into the food prep and wine choices. Our waiter, Wilson, was fun and attentive. We stayed at the Marquesa hotel and had breakfast included with our stay (30$ per person per day). It's such an elegant dining room, it felt very different from Duval st! The breakfast was a highlight of our stay at the hotel- I loved the Huevos rancheros and ordered it multiple days. The restaurant is not known as a vegetarian place but I was surprised to realize I never ate any meat during our stay! Service is great, friendly and quick. The wait staff is horrendous! We sat down and waited over 15 minutes and finally filled out water glasses and we asked if we had someone that was going to wait on us? Another table came in after us and the waitress started greeting them before she came to us so I went and asked and sure enough they were on a rotation and she didn't want the two top as the next table that came in was a six top. I struggled between four and five stars based upon our Valentine's Day experience. Four of us, all in for the $150 per person four-course pre fix menu. My food was delicious - she crab soup, pork belly appetizer, filet, and key west pie. The service was terrific and the atmosphere was lovely. While we really enjoyed the meal, I wrestle with whether it was worth almost $800 ($150 x 4 + tip). We had several other meals during our time in Key West that, while not as fancy, were far less in price and equal in enjoyment. Went here on a Sunday night for dinner. The service was great and the cocktails were creative and good. The food was crazy expensive. The pork belly amuse bouche was very good. The crawfish pasta was a very small portion with a couple of tails mixed in for $27. My husband had a fish dish that was good, but priced at over $60. Our friends had the short rib special and a fish dish. Short rib special was $80. The food was good, but for what they are charging, it should blow your socks off. Went to Café Marquesa on a recent week on trip to Key West. Obviously, we've heard great things so I had high expectations from the reviews and quite frankly very high expectations because of the price point as well. Unfortunately , this experience was simply not worth the money; about $375for the two is us (not including gratuity). We obviously are at multiple other locations around town and quite frankly virtually all of them were better and for half the price! We had the foie gras appetizer and it was very good. We also had the char grilled oysters and they were good but for the price they weren't anything special and we had oysters at multiple locations around town that were quite a bit better. The last item we had as an appetizer was the crawfish tails and angel hair pasta. This one was quite frankly a disappointment. It wasn't horrible, but the flavor profile was quite frankly rather bland. The pasta itself was not angel hair, it was actually even larger than standard spaghetti and it was simply overcooked and way too soft. For an entrée, my wife had the grilled swordfish piccata, and it was actually quite good. Swordfish is easily overcooked and I'm typically not a fan because it's almost always too dry, but this was cooked very well and it was simply a good plate of food. I had the seared duck breast and was not impressed. When ordering I asked how it was prepared and was told medium which is the chefs recommendation. I asked for it medium rare which is my preference... Unfortunately, it was not served medium rare, and was absolutely medium. The server agreed and asked if I wanted it remade. I said no because this is a 15 minute dish at minimum and my wife was already eating her entrée. The fat wasn't as rendered as it should've been as well and was still a little more chewy than I should've been. The final blow was a billing issue... we were charged for two bottles ($60 each) of wine instead of two glasses (&15 each). I had already paid the check when my wife noticed the error of being overcharged by $90. To their credit, they did cancel the transaction and it showed up on my credit statement immediately and they were able to make the correction and charge the correct amount. Overall, this was not a horrible experience, but there were some pretty big missed steps on the restaurants part. For an almost $400 meal (well over that with gratuity) this should've been a GREAT dining experience, but in the end it simply wasn't. read more

Perhaps we had a rare bad experience but the Cafe disappointed twice. On our first visit I ordered 2 egg whites and got regular eggs. I sent the order back. The last day, today June 1st saw several service failures. The meal I ordered came with a choice of protein. I selected bacon and it was not on the plate when it arrived. Since potatoes were part of the meal I asked the server to bring ketchup. He never returned with either. After 7 minutes and seeing the bacon on the window I flagged a server and she brought both. By then the potatoes were cool. We placed the coffee urn lid up to signal a refill was needed. The young man who started the table never returned once to check on us. The lady who brought the bacon and ketchup never asked if we needed coffee. After 17 minutes of waiting for coffee I advised I wanted to speak to the manager. Since I knew I was going to leave a comprehensive review (bad) with time lines I felt obligated to let her know. Frankly she was not engaged in her job since there were only two tables eating with a total of 4 people. Service should have been perfect but clearly fell deeply short. read more
