A must visit in key west! Reservations for outside I have heard sell out weeks in advance. We were able to get a reservation inside. I was a little bummed we didn't get to see the view, but the ambiance inside is lovely too. Their menus light up which was so helpful in a dark restaurant. Our server was super helpful and made some great recommendations. We tried a few different small plates to share and enjoyed a few cocktails. Absolutely love the desserts here. I also tried the key lime pie and the chocolate pistachio creme brulee. The pie was great but I was underwhelmed by the creme brulee, and I am a chocolate girl! This was our first time in Key West, and we made a reservation here to celebrate my wife's birthday with a group of six. It was a beautiful evening, and we were seated with a lovely view of the waterfront. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience, and we were happy we chose this restaurant. Food: I always enjoy when a restaurant offers a creative and inventive cocktail menu. I won't go into detail on each one, but they were all very good, especially the Spiced Old Fashioned. At our server's suggestion, we ordered a couple of plates of the Grilled Ciabatta Bread. The bread was nicely grilled, and the roasted garlic manchego butter made it especially delicious. I normally try not to fill up on bread, but this was absolutely worth it. We ordered an eclectic mix of small and large plates. Some of the standout dishes included the Lobster Mac and Cheese, Swordfish, and Crab Cake. The Brussels sprouts took top honors, perfectly roasted without being greasy, full of flavor, and complemented by a generous amount of bacon. The one disappointment was the Pork Shank Osso Buco. While it was tender, it was only warm and a bit underseasoned. It was good, but not great, especially for someone who enjoys pork shank dishes. We saved room for dessert, and they were all crowd pleasers. My personal favorite was the Cuban Bread Pudding. The Chocolate Pistachio Crème Brûlée was also unique and delicious. Service: We had reservations for 7:30 and were seated promptly. The hostess and our server did a great job of making us feel welcome. The entire two-hour meal was well paced, and we always felt attended to. I was especially impressed with the backlit menu portfolios. They made it easy to read in the evening without guests needing to use their phone flashlights, which was a thoughtful and effective use of technology. Since we were celebrating a birthday, they placed a sign on the table acknowledging the occasion, which was a nice touch. It would have been even better if one of the desserts had included a lit candle. Atmosphere: The setting is beautiful. We were seated in a smaller dining room with several other tables. When we first arrived, there was a larger, very boisterous group nearby, and it made it difficult to hear our server. Fortunately, they left about 30 minutes into our meal, and the atmosphere became much more relaxed and enjoyable. Our waterfront view added to the experience. This was a very special evening. It was also the most expensive meal we had in Key West, so it was reasonable to have high expectations. With a few improvements, it could have been a five-star experience. This was such a great experience for brunch. A few gfs and I came here the other day and when we sat down at our table our menus had the last name of the gf who made the reservation on it! It was such a nice touch to the experience as a whole. Our server was Kim G and she was fabulous. She was attentive and made sure we got to try everything we wanted. Also, before we even ordered any of our small plates, a complimentary plate of seafood and a cinnamon roll were brought to the table!!!! Both plates were delicious and set the tone for the rest of the food. Some of the plates I got I liked more than others, but what's good about the endless tapas style is if I didn't like it it was no big deal, I could just order something else in the next round. Lovely time! Try to go at sunset if you can, because the view is beautiful. Our reservation wasn't until 7:30, so we caught the sunset at Mallory Square and headed over for drinks at the bar until our table was ready. The inside is so cozy, I wouldn't have mind dining there! The staff was welcoming and friendly. Smiles and congratulations. The waiter gave us a quick tour of the menu with suggestions according to their serving size. We opted for an appetizer and smaller plates in order to leave from for our own dessert sampling. Bc it was a night of sweet indulgence after all. With more of an appetite I would have liked to try one of their fish entrees being that they offered 3 different fish entrees. Perhaps next time. We ordered the crab cake, wild mushrooms and the tender greens. For dessert- the blood orange panna cotta, the dark chocolate tres leches and the Cuban bread pudding. While they were tasty, the tres leches didn't have any semblance of tres leches in any way. It was more of a dark chocolate cake with hint of espresso flavor. And the bread pudding was served cold (accidentally). They did apologize for that and removed it from thebill on their own accord. So I had heard good things about Hot Tin Roof and it checked off the boxes I wanted to nice enough to be peaceful and romantic, on the water, great view of a key west sunset and good food. All the food items were pretty good. I question if the beef cheek was actually wagyu, but it was ok, the Mac and cheeses was really good, the brussel sprouts, crabcake, ahi tuna tacos were very good. We were lucky enough to have Andrei as our server--his warmth, attention, and recommendations elevated our dining experience. I usually stick to seafood, but was tempted by the Osso Bucco--and I'm so glad I broke my own rule. The meat fell off the bone and paired perfectly with creamy polenta. It was an absolute home run! My wife played it safe with the shrimp, and even as someone who isn't usually a shrimp fan, I have to say: this shrimp on fire! To top off the evening, we had the Cuban Bread Pudding. Although the Swordfish was outstanding, it (sadly) did not offset the experience. I wanted to order the Yellowtail Snapper filleted. (I have no interest in removing the scales, bones, or head.) The server indicated that was not possible. (Not possible, or not convenient?) We just ate Dover Sole in Dunedin, FL which the server filleted it at the table. It was outstanding. My wife and I ended up splitting the Swordfish. (Loss of $55 revenue.) My wife asked for a glass of Pinot Grigio with dinner. It showed at the end of dinner. Server apologized and offered to not charge us. We're not there for freebies to mitigate his lousy service. We travel globally including the keys a few times a year. We've enjoyed Hot Tin Roof several times before, which is why we decided to share the experience with 4 other friends. Sadly, it was an epic embarrassment including being rushed through dinner. If I recall we were in and out in less than 45 minutes. When did speed become the priority to the experience? (I wish I could remember the server's name. I'm so glad I found this place! Tucked away in the back of the dock, you definitely need to know that this place exists to find it. It's above bar/restaurant that's on the dock. People recommended this place for brunch but we came here for dinner instead. The dinner was just as great and if you come at the right time you'll be able to see the sun set. Highly recommend a reservation if you're trying to catch the sunset. We didn't have one but we got here right as they open for dinner so got seated outside over looking the waters. The servers here are very nice. They are very attentive and provide excellent recommendations. I got the swordfish special of the day. It was my first time trying swordfish, and it was phenomenal. While the sunset was nice, it was mostly obscured by Sunset Key, so it was a little underwhelming. However, the dinner was terrific. I'm a fan of whole cooked fish, yes, eyeballs and everything, so I had to go with the whole, crispy yellowtail snapper. Cooked to perfection. Drizzled with a spicy green cilantro sauce. Added the Brussels sprouts, which were very good, and the blackened shrimp Mac n cheese. Most places don't really blacken seafood to the extent that we do in New Orleans, so of course I felt it could have been spicier, but it was still super good.
