i waas sooo disappointed in cafe matcha. i have been wanting to check out cafe matcha ever since i heard about their opening. i finally decided to go to cafe matcha yesterday 03/28 and my original plan was to sit & eat at the cafe. i really wanted to try their matcha waffles. however, when i first walked in i noticed how minimal the seatings were. i honestly don't think the owner thought this one through. i mean the name within itself is going to attract a lot of customers so wouldnt you think to put a bit more seating options. i honestly hate the mini table that they have. it's so useless. the only thing you can put on top of the mini table is your drink. my original plan ended up not working out because since there wasn't any available seatings i wasn't able to try their matcha waffles. i only ordered their princess matcha and it was sooo disappointing. the way they make the to go drinks vs when you are dining looked soo different and soo much better. i don't know why the barista doesn't keep it consistent for both. i noticed the people who were dining in had their strawberry in the bottom of the drink and the rest was matcha. it looked so freaking good. but when i received my to go drink.. literally barley had any strawberry, he put it on the side of the cup so you can't really taste the strawberry?? it was not good at all. and honestly $8 for this tiny cup i expected much more..i was soo disappointed with my first experience because i had such high hopes for this place. i am a huge matcha lover and i really didn't want to give this place a low review. maybe next time, ill early in the morning when they open and hopefully I can try their matcha waffles. read more

I am in Alfred's fan, so I was excited to try this new spot! This matcha was more flavorful compared to Alfreds. They also have more milk options, including soy milk, which I appreciate. The food options were interesting and not many vegan items in comparison to Alfred's. Surprisingly, it was not overly busy, and I appreciated that there were free parking spots available. The matcha is rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced not bitter, not overly sweet, just incredibly well done. You can tell they really care about quality. The food is also excellent and thoughtfully prepared, making it a great all-around stop, not just for drinks. I live on the Westside and anytime I'm in the Valley I make a point to stop here. I don't like writing bad/negative reviews but this place was seriously off putting. Parking was easy because I came in the morning during the holidays. I met my friend here to grab matcha (duh lol). I had my dog with me and he doesn't bark or do anything since he's used to me taking him to coffee shops. We ordered our matcha and the girl was like no dogs allowed so you have to sit outside, that's fine with me. Just annoying because it was about to rain and cold and windy outside. I understood because not everyone is comfortable with dogs and if that's their policy, it is what it is. We got our food and drinks (for here) and sat outside. After we were done, we returned our plates and she said "next time you cant sit outside with our dishes, you have to get take out cups". Lol, why couldn't she just give us our items in takeout cups/pastry bags? We would have been fine. Anyways, matcha was very subpar, 2.5/5 for the matcha, and the pastries were nothing special. I claimed this because I knew about matcha way before it became an influencer fad in America circa 2010-2014. This latte was $20 because I requested using "rare matcha" which is $10, the cashier did not explain why it's an extra $10 up charge. (8.00 for the drink and a separate $10 for the matcha totaling $18) I assume because it was "rare matcha" the taste, the energy and the nutritional benefits would be a powerhouse to reflect the pricing....NOPE!! This was purely GREEN MILK as another review stated. Because I spent the most money ever in any city on this specific cup (San Francisco and New York City included) I couldn't bear to throw $20 in the garbage. So I waited another 30 min of my valuable time to kindly and politely explain my dismay for the drink, JUST FOR THEM TO CHARGE ME TWO EXTRA DOLLARS FOR EXTRA MATCHA TO NOT TASTE LIKE SYRUPY MILK! So yep an unenjoyable $20 milk drink in an approximately 10 oz cup filled with ice. So in actuality and mathematically, I purchased an 8 oz milk and syrup drink for $20. Finally!!! A matcha shop in the valley close to Sherman Oaks/Studio City!! I really loved the matcha here. I got Café Matcha's take on a strawberry matcha einspanner and the miso cinnamon roll. The matcha was delicious, I could actually taste the strong matcha flavor and the strawberry, without it being too overpowering. The cinnamon roll was also very yummy, but very sweet, which was expected. The vibe inside was cute, but a little overwhelming with the bright colors, I'm not sure I would want to spend a day studying or working here, but it's nice to make a quick stop to pick up a drink and a snack. The prices were a little steep- over $8 for a matcha oat milk in a super small cup. However, the staff, especially the woman taking our order, was lovely and the service was excellent!! Super friendly staff, cute decor, and high quality matcha. Japanese soy cream is a must try! I care the most about the food (the sentence above is to satisfy Yelp's AI checks). Please come here to see how "Asian fusion" is done correctly. Chef Kiyoshi's creations were delicious and delightful, very thoughtful flavor combinations- nothing gimmicky and focuses on techniques and high quality ingredients. I did order almost all the items and ate them in the cafe immediately (they heat them up for you!).... I've listed in the order of my personal likings: 1. Apple Hojicha Galette (not pictured, ate it too fast)- most hojicha desserts are just hojicha slapped in the face. I don't know how the chef did this, but the hojicha comes last and subtly in the background, while the fragrance and the natural sweetness of the apple hits you first. The puff pastry itself was perfect- soft, moist (BUT NOT SOGGY), and a slight crisp outer shell. The crumble on top is the "cherry on top" but no syrup and no diabetes. If you love apples, this is a must try! 10/10 2. Carrot miso danish- I was expecting salty and savory profile based on the appearance and my sheer lack of imagination. I was wrong. These heirloom carrots are SO SWEET and the different color carrots brings in subtle levels of earthiness as well (the good kind). Not your generic grocery store carrots, these are fresh and extra flavorful. The miso brings in just enough umami flavor, but the pastry is sweet overall from the carrots. Of course the Danish pastry itself is perfect- buttery and moist (NOT SOGGY). 10/10 3. Curry ham pan- good curry, good ham, and bread is slightly cheesy (?) and a perfect texture. 9.5/10 (I wish there was more curry!) 4. Sudachi lime pie- I ate this last so was a bit full. The base crust of this pie has a perfect crunch and I think more on the salty side (very subtle, I could be wrong)- which pairs perfectly with the "cream" layers (idk the proper terminology). The sudachi lime cream layer is pure perfection- an unique tartness but not overpowering. The top layer cream is so fluffy. When combined all in one bite - this is exactly what I've been looking for after years of being disappointed by most LA restaurants' "key lime pies" and lemon squares. 9.5/10 ‍‍‍‍‍(I wish there was a tub of the sudachi lime cream, could always use more haha).
