You could choose to get sand brewed coffee, a cool experience of slow brew coffee in hot sand that you don't get the chance to see often. The perfectly roasted beans turning in to a wonderfully balanced latte is a coffee miracle. The fig and vanilla matcha was the best matcha we've ever had. Once stirred, you get the delicious jammy flavor from the fig with the slight inclusions of some seeds and light pulp. The matcha was delicious and high quality as well. Overall the drink was our perfection with the balance of all the flavors and the aesthetic dried fig on top. Service: We got there around 3:30 on a Friday and the line wasn't too long. The line moved swiftly as they took everyone's order and got the drinks turned around fairly quickly. For us, Yala did not. This is a trendy Mediterranean hotspot of sorts that offers sand-warmed coffee and "Fig"-oriented coffee/matcha options, so the line sprawled well out the door. I must say that the line moves efficiently, though, but you'll want to make sure you have time to find parking, wait in line, and then wait for your order. We had the Yala Matcha and Matcha Latte, iced. Both had the cream foam that features cardamom - a first for us, and likely the last. I should have opted for pistachio or something, because neither one of us appreciated the cardamom flavor. I knew I wouldn't like the fig, so I didn't even go for it. My friend despised her drink completely, but I opted to take mine home and mix in more syrup and oat milk to salvage it. For the price, neither one of us was impressed. There are pastries available, as well. I saw a mix of savory and sweet options. The interior is cute, with seating options available inside and outside. Given the crowd, we sat for a bit and then opted to take our drinks to go. Parking was a bit difficult. I know the area well enough and was able to find us a more lowkey strip of available free parking about a block away. It hurts to write this review. Maybe my expectations were set too high due to the Yala's popularity, but it was pretty disappointing. The Yala Matcha had a weird taste to it. I believe it was the cardamom. It totally overpowers the entire drink. The cold foam texture was watery. Went around 20 min after opening on a weekend, but the workers were still setting up. Since the workers were setting up, the time it took to get my drink was slow. I used to work in the service industry so I understand the pains of opening, but I feel like everything shouldve been set up by that time. I have wanted to try this place for such a long time especially for the Fig & Vanilla Matcha Latte. And let me tell you, it did not miss. This drink was absolutely delicious and the matcha was really amazing quality. Also this place is super busy but they are actually so quick with their drink making. I was surprised how quickly our drinks came out. So the actual drink itself is like a yummy iced matcha with some fig syrup mixed in with the little crunchy fig seeds in there too. I will say some of it can settle to the bottom so you could try to mix it with your straw but I didn't mind it personally. It was a sweet treat at the end of my drink. They have a dried candied fig in the top as well. It's really light. I am not actually sure if it's a real fig or just like a candy?? But it's tasty and not like overwhelming. I would get it again. As far as vibes go, I would say that this place has a really cool aesthetic. There is a bench with some little pedestals you can set your drink on. And there are a couple of seats outside but it's not like a whole lot. It is really busy so I would say this is not a place where you would necessarily go to study or get work done. It's a good in and out place with good quality drinks. Also my friend wanted the sand hot chocolate which is super cool that the warm it with sand, but they were sadly out at 9 AM Saturday so come early for that! The matcha was full-bodied and although it was a latte, it wasn't super heavy or thick, but instead super refreshing. Cardamon Creme Brulee Latte 4.5/5 - The only reason why we docked half point off here is that we didn't taste the cardamon, but other than that, this was super yummy. Our group ordered fig matcha lattes, a crème brûlée latte, and the Yala latte. For pastries, we shared a chocolate croissant and the za'atar cheese Danish. The fig matcha latte was excellent. You do have to stir the fig from the bottom, but once mixed in, the flavor was perfectly balanced, slightly sweet, earthy, and complimentary to the matcha without overpowering it. The Yala latte was also delicious, with a warm cardamom flavor that really stood out. The crème brûlée latte tasted like a classic latte topped with a burnt sugar flavor, smooth and comforting. The pastries were just as good. The za'atar cheese Danish was incredibly unique and flavorful, honestly an 11/10 and a must‑order. I finally found a parking spot!!! Let's go to Yala Simple warm, calming, minimalist and community forward this place was packed! Their ambiance is smart from function to design! Seating is around the edge and open space in the middle lined with rugs. Great music plays rounding out the LA cafe vibe. I could chill here all day. They have password protected WiFi available for customers, and a restroom only for customers. The staff are efficient proficient and still the line gets pretty long! I didn't notice any vegan food options if you come to the area on a Sunday hit up the farmers market and then come here. I ordered the coffee and a side of almond milk. Milk alternatives box checked! My order was so quick I missed the process of the sand coffee... (foreshadowing: I will be back) They are sustainability focused the cups and lids are compostable! The Sand Coffee YALA! (let's go) Before I review the coffee I need to address that I am an extreme coffee snob...it's so bad that a major chain that starts with an "S" literally makes me physically nauseous if I try to drink a coffee there. At other places I can taste a single burned bean in the mix. I cannot do large batch roasters they burn beans! Now let's proceed... When I received my order I was amused it's like a shot of espresso and an 8oz cup of almond milk...I expected the espresso shot coffee but the 8oz of almond milk was unexpected but they know what they are doing... The sand coffee on its own was smooth with mild bitterness but balanced flavors that are complex and fill the whole palate and has subtle notes of chocolate. This is a strong medium roast on the cusp of a dark roast, its meaty as in robust and satisfying. The coffee/espresso is thick and worthy of enjoying sip by sip as is! Now the side of almond milk I tried the coffee as is now lets dilute it because I don't want to be strung out LOL! I added the rest of the shot and noticed the slurry at the bottom of the cup which I mixed it yes the coffee is that thick! It was just as excellent with the milk so lattes are lit!
