Stopped in on a hot Saturday afternoon. We got lucky and found street parking a few doors down with time on the meter. Upon walking in I loved that they were projecting the world cup game on the wall. The second thing I loved was the super clean restroom. The soap they had smelled so great! I do wish they had a larger menu posted on a wall so I didn't have to wait to get up to the cashier before being able to look at the menu. I felt a little rushed because I hate holding up the line while I decide. Everything sounded so great. I decided to go big and ordered an iced Fig and Vanilla Matcha Latte. The dried fig on top was so delicious. My cousin opted for an iced tea. I can't wait to go back to try the Yala Latte and Yala Matcha because I have grown to love orange blossom and cardamom both of which I disliked as a child. The seasonal Salted Honey Pistachio Latte looks enticing but after trying the coffee/pistachio combination a few times i've come to learn is a pairing I'm not fond of. Love: The coffee! The Evil Eye, Yala Latte, and Orange Blossom Oat Latte are all fantastic. It's very expensive for the size, however. But I am at a genuine loss with one thing... Yala, what in the WORLD is the everything bagel pastry. Everything bagel seasoning and savory herbs with a savory pastry... and basically cream cheese icing in the middle. Hello. Girl. Why am I paying $10 for caffeine and a Starbucks experience? I've been visiting multiple times as this coffee shop is close to my work and I enjoyed their coffee from the Silver-lake location. I'm a pretty simple girl, one latte and I leave. I'm very friendly and say please and thank you when I order. Every time I come here, I feel like I'm in the coffee shop version of an Abercrombie with the staff. I order and the girl taking my order just stares at the screen without looking up once. This has happened with multiple staff except maybe once with a nice young boy. When I ask if the order they call is mine, they give me the millennial stare as if I ruined their flow. I try not to be a bother but it really has me wanting different. Yes, I'm sure they want to just take my order and have me leave- the small conditions of the shop don't help. You could choose to get sand brewed coffee, a cool experience of slow brew coffee in hot sand that you don't get the chance to see often. Fig vanilla matcha, yala latte with rich cardamom flavors all while on a gorgeous designed space. I landed on the yala latte, the brown sugar rim paired with cold foam was calling my name. The perfectly roasted beans turning in to a wonderfully balanced latte is a coffee miracle. As well as the vanilla fig matcha, a wonderfully balanced lightly sweetened vanilla fig flavored matcha, creamy ceremonial and balanced just how everyone enjoys it and not to forget the chai, a perfectly spiced tea that hit the spot. I arrived very excited, but unfortunately left rather disappointed. :/ Yes, yes, I know you can't trust the hype - but plenty of places in the SFV and around LA have "hype" and yet can live up to expectations. For us, Yala did not. This is a trendy Mediterranean hotspot of sorts that offers sand-warmed coffee and "Fig"-oriented coffee/matcha options, so the line sprawled well out the door. I must say that the line moves efficiently, though, but you'll want to make sure you have time to find parking, wait in line, and then wait for your order. We had the Yala Matcha and Matcha Latte, iced. Both had the cream foam that features cardamom - a first for us, and likely the last. I should have opted for pistachio or something, because neither one of us appreciated the cardamom flavor. I knew I wouldn't like the fig, so I didn't even go for it. My friend despised her drink completely, but I opted to take mine home and mix in more syrup and oat milk to salvage it. For the price, neither one of us was impressed. There are pastries available, as well. I saw a mix of savory and sweet options. The interior is cute, with seating options available inside and outside. Given the crowd, we sat for a bit and then opted to take our drinks to go. Parking was a bit difficult. I know the area well enough and was able to find us a more lowkey strip of available free parking about a block away. It hurts to write this review. Maybe my expectations were set too high due to the Yala's popularity, but it was pretty disappointing. The Yala Matcha had a weird taste to it. I believe it was the cardamom. It totally overpowers the entire drink. The cold foam texture was watery. Went around 20 min after opening on a weekend, but the workers were still setting up. Since the workers were setting up, the time it took to get my drink was slow. I used to work in the service industry so I understand the pains of opening, but I feel like everything shouldve been set up by that time. Parking: It is a nightmare but that's to be expected in LA. There is metered parking and some paid parking lots. Ambiance: Inside has a bare and rustic feel to it, the rugs and the beautiful embroidered piece on the motorcycle inside feel so intentional. Service: We got there around 3:30 on a Friday and the line wasn't too long. The line moved swiftly as they took everyone's order and got the drinks turned around fairly quickly. I've been wanting to leave a review for this place for a WHILE! Their fig vanilla matcha is utterly delicious. I am not one for sweet drinks, but this one is the perfect level of sweet-but-not-too-sweet and with the distinct flavor of both fig and vanilla. I LOVE getting it with pistachio milk, and I know I'll be back for this specific drink again. My partner loved his Sand Coffee today (plain, not evil eye style). The coffee was robust with a gorgeous coffee bitterness without being acrid, a delicate but important balance to hit. Next time we'll try it Evil Eye style to see the difference!! The cappuccino was good, but the fan favorites were the Matcha and the Sand Coffee. The space itself is lovely, with a decent bit of seating and a bar with a few counter seats if you're lucky enough to get one. I have wanted to try this place for such a long time especially for the Fig & Vanilla Matcha Latte. And let me tell you, it did not miss. This drink was absolutely delicious and the matcha was really amazing quality. Also this place is super busy but they are actually so quick with their drink making. I was surprised how quickly our drinks came out. So the actual drink itself is like a yummy iced matcha with some fig syrup mixed in with the little crunchy fig seeds in there too. I will say some of it can settle to the bottom so you could try to mix it with your straw but I didn't mind it personally. It was a sweet treat at the end of my drink. They have a dried candied fig in the top as well. It's really light. I am not actually sure if it's a real fig or just like a candy?? But it's tasty and not like overwhelming. I would get it again. As far as vibes go, I would say that this place has a really cool aesthetic. There is a bench with some little pedestals you can set your drink on. And there are a couple of seats outside but it's not like a whole lot. It is really busy so I would say this is not a place where you would necessarily go to study or get work done. It's a good in and out place with good quality drinks. Also my friend wanted the sand hot chocolate which is super cool that the warm it with sand, but they were sadly out at 9 AM Saturday so come early for that! The matcha was full-bodied and although it was a latte, it wasn't super heavy or thick, but instead super refreshing. Cardamon Creme Brulee Latte 4.5/5 - The only reason why we docked half point off here is that we didn't taste the cardamon, but other than that, this was super yummy. And by the long lines that I would sometimes see when passing by, I could tell that this place can get busy. While I would not wait in a lengthy queue for their drinks, I've had good experiences so far. They offer standard espresso-based drinks, matcha beverages, teas, and unique items such as their apricot espresso tonic and orange blossom oat lattes. I've only tried their Evil Eye (which combines a cardamom cream top on a cup of sand coffee with a sugared rim), and while it tastes lighter than other sand coffees I've tried, I like the combination of flavors. They have password protected WiFi available for customers, and a restroom only for customers. The staff are efficient proficient and still the line gets pretty long! I didn't notice any vegan food options if you come to the area on a Sunday hit up the farmers market and then come here. I ordered the coffee and a side of almond milk. Milk alternatives box checked! My order was so quick I missed the process of the sand coffee... (foreshadowing: I will be back) They are sustainability focused the cups and lids are compostable! The Sand Coffee YALA! (let's go) Before I review the coffee I need to address that I am an extreme coffee snob...it's so bad that a major chain that starts with an "S" literally makes me physically nauseous if I try to drink a coffee there. At other places I can taste a single burned bean in the mix. I cannot do large batch roasters they burn beans! Now let's proceed... When I received my order I was amused it's like a shot of espresso and an 8oz cup of almond milk...I expected the espresso shot coffee but the 8oz of almond milk was unexpected but they know what they are doing... The sand coffee on its own was smooth with mild bitterness but balanced flavors that are complex and fill the whole palate and has subtle notes of chocolate. This is a strong medium roast on the cusp of a dark roast, its meaty as in robust and satisfying. The coffee/espresso is thick and worthy of enjoying sip by sip as is! Now the side of almond milk I tried the coffee as is now lets dilute it because I don't want to be strung out LOL! I added the rest of the shot and noticed the slurry at the bottom of the cup which I mixed it yes the coffee is that thick! It was just as excellent with the milk so lattes are lit! Finally made it here! A group of friends and I were on our way to Universal and decided to stop by on the way, I'm so glad we did. Parking is mostly street parking, with only a few spots in the back (maybe three), so it can be a bit tricky. Good luck there. Once inside, the café is absolutely adorable. It has strong Arabian‑inspired vibes, with soft lime‑washed walls and rugs used as curtains, such a creative and cozy touch. The atmosphere feels warm, stylish, and welcoming. The staff was friendly, kind, and very hospitable. They offer a great variety of drinks, including Turkish coffee made the traditional way in hot sand, which was really cool to see. Our group ordered fig matcha lattes, a crème brûlée latte, and the Yala latte. For pastries, we shared a chocolate croissant and the za'atar cheese Danish. The fig matcha latte was excellent. You do have to stir the fig from the bottom, but once mixed in, the flavor was perfectly balanced, slightly sweet, earthy, and complimentary to the matcha without overpowering it. The Yala latte was also delicious, with a warm cardamom flavor that really stood out. The crème brûlée latte tasted like a classic latte topped with a burnt sugar flavor, smooth and comforting. The pastries were just as good. The za'atar cheese Danish was incredibly unique and flavorful, honestly an 11/10 and a must‑order. The chocolate croissant was a classic done right, with gooey, melted chocolate inside and a flaky, buttery texture. Sadly... I wish I could give Yala a higher rating but I'm not sure where I stand by it after a recent visit. The drinks are beautifully presented, no doubt about it. However, they're about 12oz & don't come in different sizes & for $7.5 per drink it better be the best 12oz of my life... which just wasn't my experience. My Yala latte didn't taste rich or creamy... it tasted almost watered down? I know that doesn't make sense given that a latte consists of espresso & milk but it was lacking in the flavor department. The matcha on the other hand was much better but a bit too sweet in my opinion. As for the space itself, not much space available for sitting down & only street parking. Came here on a recommendation from a friend. There was a line out the door we when we got there mid morning on the weekend, but it moved quickly. The interior is super cute and minimal. I ordered a fig vanilla oat milk matcha latter. There were little bits of fig at the bottom of the drink, but I barely tasted any fig nor vanilla. I think next time, I'd just got with a matcha latte.
