The pita was tender and the chicken was tasty with just the right amount of lettuce, chopped tomato, red onion and tzatziki. A delightful small restaurant with delicious Mediterranean/middle-eastern food. It's owned by an immigrant family so you know the food is authentic. Having tried most of their grill/meat entrees, I personally like the grilled chicken most. Their gyro and sausage are flavorful and delicious, but too high in sodium to my personal preference. Ate there for first and last time. Older man that runs it is rude. However, worst than that, he and his young worker did not wear gloves to prepare food. Totally barehanded touching lettuce tomato onions when preparing wraps and gyros, etc. followed by rolling up the wraps/gyros barehanded so that now the whole meal was contaminated inside and out. Where we were sitting we could plainly see them. It was very disturbing to know someone's bares hands and skin and probably germs and whatever else on their hands, were touching peoples food that they were going to eat. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they sell Cevapi sandwiches here! This was my favorite dish in the Balkans/Croatia and thought I'd never be able to eat it again in the states. Moist (due to tzatziki sauce), had some lettuce and onion and what appeared to be homemade pita. Sandwich could have been a little bit larger. My wife's plate had a generous amount of meat and rice plus a small salad. Both the gyro and chicken were moist with the chicken nicely marinated. My only critique would be that when my party arrived, we were not sure if we were supposed to go in and order or if the waitress would attend to us at the table we chose outside. Probably the only place you can get a good Pljeskavica in Vermont. In fact, I've never seen it anywhere else. The meshano meso/mixed grilled meats are decent as well. I have seen the gyros and by all accounts, it is probably the best in the Burlington area as well. I had a greek salad with chicken, and greedily also ordered some dolmades as a starter. YUM. Everything was tasty, fresh, and perfectly spiced. The pita bread was particularly delicious, very light and fluffy. It wasn't super expensive, good service, and served quickly. If it were not for the location I feel that Cafe Mediterano would be one of the most popular eateries in Essex. I go for the falafel, which is one of the best I've ever had. I've tried several other menu items and have yet to be disappointed, though the falafel will always be my favorite. Cafe Mediterano unfortunately shares a parking lot with Domino's, which means that the parking lot is usually full with their customers. Also if you've never been here then you will probably drive past it if you are coming from five corners as it is hidden behind a row of trees. I just went for the first time in years and couldn't believe how much it had changed. The inside used to be modern with unique international items which created an amazing dining experience. This time, there was a table piled high with office supplies and papers sprawled all over. The benches were gone and the international goods was more like a random mess of products. I was really disappointed by the inside, fortunately the outdoor area is a hidden gem. The food itself was good and the girl working was lovely. If I had to sit inside I don't know if I would dine here... Bring back the old upscale European charm! I've never eaten Bosnian food anywhere other than here, so I don't feel qualified to opine on its relative merits, but it is a longstanding go-to for my wife and me. For lunch I recommend the Panini Mediterano with Kajmak smoked meat and roasted red pepper. For dinner, I'm a big fan of the Mixed Grill combo, which gives you a pita pocket, and a mix of the wonderful seasoned chicken, gyro meat, and a couple links of ćevapi, a variety of Bosnian beef sausage, Tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, and nice, uniquely flavored rice. Besides the good flavorful food that is served at affordable prices is the owner's interest in seeing that his customers are always satisfied with their meal. When I was in there last week I had the gyros platter and a soda for $10.94. When I gave the girl my money and threw a modest tip in the jar the young woman said to me, " Thank you, you were the only one to tip this afternoon."
