Bait and Switch We are back again and reviewing after several visits. Each time we have done the omnivore tasting menu ($60 pp). Sometimes it's GREAT and sometimes it's meh to good. Tonight we had the halibut as our main with samples of other items and it left us put off and hangry by meal's end mainly because of the gaslighting. I'll explain. We started with the carrot and white bean hummus accompanied by cucumber and crispy focaccia and seed dukkah. This course was followed by a"secret" menu item, the gem salad which we've had previously and had hoped for something else. The third item interesting was also NOT on the daily menu... it was a greenbean dish with ??? because, well, the ingredients and dish didn't match the menu!. When asking about the discrepancy I was told the chef was being "whimsical" and decided to put this together (??!?!!??!) but it was similar the the stated menu item ( broccolini). When comparing the ingredients it didn't jive. I call B* frankly and think it is more of a bait and switch with lesser ingredients at a premium price. This is not the first time this has occurred and I will not be back because I feel it is dishonest. Yes, the food is excellent in taste, good on quality, tiny in portion size if i'm honest and I don't think it should be done. 2/5 or 40% of items served were " secret" items... yeah right. Anyhoo, the main did match the description -halibut- and the dessert(strawberry basil cremee) with extra added olive cake was as described too. The temperature inside can and has varied with each visit. I recommend eating inside if AC is working. Noted also the staff has been less attentive (water refills and adult beverage orders). Growing pains, maybe. Resting on laurels, perhaps. read more

Definitely the best meal of our long Memorial Day weekend in Burlington. We were really looking forward to this visit since reading that chef Paul Trombly was nominated for a Beard award. The only downside of our visit was having to wait nearly 30 minutes past our reservation time. It is a very small dining space, and when folks won't vacate their tables, there's not much to be done. There are tables outside in a "streatery," but it wasn't al fresco weather. Fortunately, the food made up for the wait. The menu is laid out in a series of shareable, mostly vegetable small plates, concluding in two or three proteins (meat or fish dishes), and desserts. We started with Smashed cucumber salad, Green garlic borek, and Garlicky green beans. Everything was delicious. I then had the Duck breast shish, which was fabulous! They were out of the fish, but substituted Scallops, which M said were very good. B had Fried haloumi, which she really enjoyed. Served with a good red wine (in cute cafeteria tumblers!). For dessert, there was Olive oil cake and a vanilla Creemee sundae. They were both excellent. Our server Allie was special, very engaging and in control of the table. We were appreciative that chef Trombly dropped by the table for a nice chat. Definitely going back next time! read more

My favorite meal in Burlington yet! I'm pescatarian so I was super excited by the veg forward menu. We tried the hummus, halloumi, lions mane, and scallops. We ate every single bite. Our favorites were the lions mane and scallops (but it all was fresh and amazing). It was on the more expensive side, so good for a special occasion. We were also in and out in 45 minutes, so don't expect a long drawn out dinner here. read more

Small dishes to share are small experiments in flavor. Liked everything we had: white bean hummus with their divine za'atar focaccia, crystals of salt on top. Squash falafel interesting nicely crispy outside. Lentil and rice wafers totally reminiscent of classic dosa in small size. Very inventive, well-presented and tasty food in a small place with tables and a counter. Expensive for size of portions, but you're paying for creativity done well! Cheery mural, nice music, attentive help. Good place for a special meal. Or just dinner! read more

Some of the best food (vegan!) I have ever had, and i have had a lot of vegan food. Creative dishes pulling from various cuisines, all built around vegetables. I live in Berkeley, where we have many wonderful vegan and vegetarian restaurants. I would compare this favorably with any of them. Really excellent! read more

Great service, delicious flavors, casual but contemporary vibe. Our first time in Vermont and lucky that our bnb was a couple blocks from this sweet place. 10/10 recommend! Also, mostly vegs so we left feeling satiated and "healthy"! Will be back, eager to try their ever-changing menu. read more

Fancy's is an experience not to be missed! The chef/owner Paul is a kind & wonderful human being who takes great pride & joy in the quality of food he serves to his customers! Each plate we is brought to us with a dance party for our taste buds! Fresh local produce is adorned with flavors and textures to be savored! If you are reading this, do not hesitate to go to this perfectly perfect bijou restaurant. The menu is imaginative and excellent for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. We had the sweet pea hummus with focaccia and cucumber slices, crushed cucumber salad with crunchy rice and fresh herbs and Caesar salad all different than you've ever had before. We also ordered a cocktail and mocktail made with simple syrup with bitter herbs- you will love them. Kudos to David and Mr. Fancy for attentive service and perfect timing between courses. Amazing!!!! You must try Fancy's. We sat indoors and were immediately taken in by the colorful mural. We shared the gochujang green beans, grilled zucchini chilaquiles, and halibut shish (phenomenal!). Everything tasted so fresh and the combinations were incredible. Wrapped up with a blueberry corn twist creemee and the olive oil cake the staff were so friendly and pacing of the meal was perfect. Can't wait to come back! read more

We all tried 6 different items and shared, family style. They were they were all phenomenal!! The smorgasbord of vegan & gluten free items were amazing! With many food sensitivities & allergies, I cannot often enjoy unique cuisine like a real "foodie" & we were all wowed by the creativity & ingenuity of Chef Paul. It was super busy, so Paul pulled up tables & made more space. We sat in the window & It was like being transported to Parkslope, Brooklyn in Burlington's Old North End. Ending the night with a blueberry vegan creemee was the most delicious surprise! read more
