I thought this place was great for what it is. Went there last night with 5 friends for the 1st time. Everyone said they'd come back. This is basically a storefront, affordable, bare bones (in decor) restaurant. It's on Cedar Lane where parking can be tough BUT there are 2 public lots within a 1 block walk so that works. I used the small lot on the corner of Elm. So the decor is pretty plain - so what? The place is immaculate. This seems to be a family run little restaurant where you get an affordable and delicious dinner. We ordered snapper, mac n cheese, salmon and I don't know what chicken was ordered. Everyone said the food was delicious. We started with spring rolls and they were delicious too. Our young waitress was very nice and did the best job she could. Our dinner plates did not all come out at once. This is because the food really is cooked fresh so some things take longer to cook than others. However, it was only a few minutes difference and we didn't care at all. You always have to understand where you are. This is not a 5 star upscale restaurant. It's run by local people who work very hard to make you happy and they succeed. PLUS desserts were so very good - we had carrot & rum cake. So I'm giving this 5 stars. Looking at the complaints, I noticed most are Uber Eats delivery. The other, frankly, sounds like his part of the Caribbean has more spicing than where these folks are from. BTW rice is supposed to be dry and not wet and gloppy. The Caribbean, like any other corner of the world, has a wide ranging cuisine. So he's from a spicier area. Also, if he looked at the website, it shows chicken on the bone clearly. Forget ordering in. It's a colossal waste of money. Why do people always do this? As a Realtor I saved 1 couple over $600 per month weaning them off that system. Go to this restaurant where you can relax, take your time and have a great meal at a truly affordable price. 1st time having Antiguan food. Bernadine is the owner and chef. She was so passionate about cooking you can taste it in her food. Fungee with Salt Fish and Eggplant was so good. I love anything made with corn meal. Grits, Polenta, cornbread Soon as Ben (our waiter) said made it cornmeal I was sold. :D Brown Stew Chicken with Rice and Peas was delicious as well. My wife and I were hankering for some good 'ol Southern Comfort Soul Food but what we found at Cafe Metro wasn't good, it was stupendously delicious!! Oh what a great gem this place is; located in Teaneck's Cedar Lane. Ben was our server, a very nice, amiable and polite young man, definitely a keeper. For beverages my wife got a home-brewed Ginger beer, I opted for hot cup of Ginger Tea (it's cold out). She knew right away that her Ginger beer was original and made fresh! My Ginger tea had pure pieces of Ginger. The drinks hit the right spot. For entree she ordered the Fungi, which is corn meal with mixed Okra, it came with Saltfish & Eggplant. Oh boy! What a treat! Her meal was full of flavor and the Saltfish tasted fresh. I ate Brown Stew Chicken, it came with rice & Peas, sweet plantains, & vegetables. Oh so much flavor, this food was superb!! I ordered food from Cafe Metro last night through Uber eats. Let me premise this by saying I had been fasting all day due to Ramadan, and my taste buds were on high alert and very sensitive. I ordered the curry conch special, and the fried snapper with a side of Mac and cheese. Shortly after my order I received a voice note from a very pleasant young lady indicating that they were out of curry conch. While I was very appreciative that they notified me so quickly, I'm not going to lie, I was really disappointed. I wish they had updated their Uber eats menu. Even after my order the curry conch was still on the Uber eats menu . I got the curry shrimp as a replacement with a side of rice and peas. The food came rather quickly, however it was a mess, there was curry sauce everywhere. I would recommend for items like the curry they use different containers such as the foil bottom containers with the plastic on top, or at least tape the styrofoam containers. In terms of the portion, they give you plenty of your side choice (mac and cheese , rice , or mashed potatoes), however the snapper was tiny and the curry shrimp order only gave 7 pieces of shrimp. I do understand seafood is expensive but I did expect a little more food. Now on to the food, the shrimp was a little dry since most of the curry sauce spilled out but it was really good, the snapper was also very tasty, I loved the Mac and cheese, even the steamed veggies were well done. The rice was horrible, it was dry, and had no taste whatsoever, I was extremely disappointed because I had so much of it. I forgot to mention that I also ordered a side of it because there was no option to pick a side with my curry conch so I ordered additional rice. When they notified me there was no curry conch and I selected the shrimp, that order came with rice , so , I had a lot of rice. I ordered two full meals and I probably had enough food for a meal and a half (when you take out the rice, because it just wasn't good). I think I would try this place again but would definitely only order mac and cheese as a side. I do hope I get an opportunity to try the curry conch some day. read more

Wow. It's hard to believe that I had not hit send on my review of this place. It's an absolute gem and worth all the driving I drive to get here. It's what brings me to this side of town. The stew fish and fungi (coocoo in my country) is like home creole food. Authentic and perfectly executed. Tastes like my grandmudda coocoo and stew fish. This is not a Trini place but this tastes fresh out of Trini kitchen. Huge compliment bc I love my home food. My littles always get the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. Both are tasty and well done. Even the fried chicken wings are seasoned and tasty. The pepper sauce is good-- no yucky tabasco here!! I'd wholeheartedly recommend this place. The servers are warm and friendly. Come when you have time or call ahead for your order if you're in a rush. It's a relaxing space and quiet, which I appreciate in a flurry of restaurants that make me regret going outside bc why is everywhere so LOUD ?! (YEP, I'M THAT AGE NOW!) ;) amazing food. Tried this new restaurant on a whim, and not disappointed. Ordered the Curry Chicken with a side of the Rasta Pasta. The meat was so flavorful, and cooked just right where it fell off the bone. The vegetable sides were fresh and crisp, and the pasta cooked just right. The cafe is clean and everything seems new, and apart from some wobble in the table, everything looked perfect. The bathroom was spotless. The server, a younger female whose name I unfortunately did not get, was attentive and always smiling. I was the only customer in the cafe when I arrived, which disappointed me, because I hope they get busier -- it's worth it. read more

It is very likely that there are plenty of people who like this food. Dark meat chicken on the bone is simply something I do not eat. I have ordered Chicken Curry in dozens of places, and without ever asking, was ALWAYS given boneless chicken breast. My family went to the movies and we were looking for some snacks. I was immediately drawn in by the rum cake, so we decided to stay in and have dinner. My coffee was brought to the table with no top and was spilled on me. It took over an hour to get 6 cheeseburgers and fries, 4 of which were burnt and hard. Food is good but service is poor, called ahead and placed my order showed up 20 min later and had to wait another 30 mins and this is a consistent problem with this place so much so that I wont bother coming back. They have a menu but never have half the items they advertise and they keep you waiting forever while the people at the register play with phones and chat with each other, you have to ask them to check on your food and they get annoyed cause you interrupted them. This place is charming and intimate. They have karaoke on Saturday night, which is a lot of fun. It's a BYOB establishment and the food is "delicious ". The flavors are authentic Caribbean, served nice and hot (temp). I thought the new Golden Crust On teaneck road was going to put them out, but this food is better. I bought the oxtails lunch special and it was very good quantity and filling, I had the curry chicken as well and it is delicious too. Got the ox tail. It was amazing, I've gotten it twice and it's been consistently juicy and slips right off the bone. The sides complimented it well and reminded me of my own home cooking.
