It was a great experience. This is my first time at this particular location. I've been to the one in Brooklyn before. The location is in a great part of Inglewood. There was ample Street parking. The curbside appeal is magnificent. The service and the servers were fantastic. They were welcoming, and they were attentive. It was a Friday night, so there was live music and that was so much fun. We made a reservation so when we arrived, they took us straight to our seat in a perfect location upfront, not too close to the music, but not too far away and across from the bar the meal was fantastic. Father's Day Brunch! Four of us attended for the Father's Day brunch. After being seated I asked the waiter about the free Old Fashioned or Sangria dads were suppose to receive as per their IG post. The waiter tells me that was only for Saturday June 20th but he'll check with management. He comes back and states it was only for the 20th. I pull up the post which states 20th and 21st. He goes back to his manager and they honor it. Their IG post also mentions a surf & turf special for $59 (which is one of the main reasons I chose this restaurant). When I inquired with the waiter he stated it's only available for dinner (this is not mentioned anywhere on the post). Between the 4 of us we had several lobster tails with waffles, 1 person ordered hot honey chicken with waffles, 4 additional lobster tails and several sides of eggs with bacon. 3 waffle orders came out together and everything else came out staggered 20 - 30mins later. We repeatedly had to ask for the rest of the order. A friend had a Cadillac Margarita which was good. I attempted to order one and was told they ran out of Cointreau and Grand Marnier. How do you run out of the main ingredient for a standard margarita at 2pm on a Sunday?! Passion fruit wings along with a few other menu items were not available. All in all I wouldn't return to Czen. Although my waiter was very pleasant doing the best he could and the ambiance was nice, the restaurant was poorly prepared and brunch was poorly executed. read more

We had an amazing dining experience at Czen Restaurant and will definitely be back! We started with the Oxtail Sushi appetizer, which was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to begin the meal. For the main courses, I ordered the oxtail with rice, which was a very generous portion and full of flavor. My partner had the salmon with Mandarin glaze and mashed potatoes, and it was outstanding--perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. For dessert, we enjoyed the fried ice cream with purple sweet potato, which was unique and delicious. Two glasses of shandy wine complemented the meal beautifully. The atmosphere was fantastic, with great music and a lively, festive vibe. The hostess was wonderful--she took the time to chat with us, asked if it was our first visit, and checked whether we were familiar with the cuisine, which made us feel very welcome. Our server was exceptionally kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. He carefully explained the menu and even double-checked details for us to make sure everything was exactly right. I love this place so much! It was my first time with friends who often come by and I can see why they do. The ambiance is incredible and the service is amazing. If you are by any chance served by Flo please be sure to show gratitude for her service. The service is well in general nonetheless. The owner is a respectful man and was very nice in welcoming our team. But overall, the best part was the drinks and food. Every drink was WORTH IT and the food was finger licking. Loved the atmosphere of this place! While it was quiet on a Tuesday evening and we were the only patrons in the restaurant other than a big party, the service was still fantastic. My friends and I sat in the bar dining room and the bartender and wait staff was very attentive in providing us with the specials for Tuesday and the rest of the menu. The group ordered the Shanghai Jerk Chicken, Five Spiced Salmon, and the Honey Butter Garlic Shrimp. They give you these delicious chip and dip in the beginning, which I thought should be in a bigger bowl because we ate that up SO fast. While I can't speak to everyone's meals, my dish, the Shanghai Jerk Chicken was delicious! It comes with a drumstick and a small breast of chicken slathered in this amazing Jamaican flavoring that really gave it a good kick! If you're into spicy foods, this is something that will satisfy that need! On the side were rice and peas with some veggies such as carrots and broccoli. It was cooked perfectly- the food came out hot. The chicken wasn't too dry and rice and beans were nice and soft (sometimes these tend to be a little firm). Worked in the industry. So I am aware of the challenges. This being said, when a restaurant is more than half empty, it shouldn't take 25 minutes to make one order. Perhaps if I'd gone to the Mexican place, I'd've had meal. Bartender was nice and made a good cocktail. But to sit at the bar for 25 minutes post order and not get food. I won't be going back. This is a positive 180 degree turnaround review that I am happy to share! My first experience at CZEN was horrible (as my review shows) and today a coworker invited me to join her there for Happy Hour (she even said I know you said you had the worst experience there but I want to try it) and I cautiously said OK. The moral of the story is that the overall experience today was GREAT and a huge part of that is due to our FABULOUS server D'Asia and the culinary crew because D'Asia was so thorough and delightful from beginning to end and took great care of us and the culinary crew did their thing with the food to the point where we were cleaning plates! The HH menu is pretty extensive and the mussels with the red Thai curry were my favorite!!!! The flavor was out of this world and I wanted to drink the broth lol. The oxtail dumplings were a home run and worth every penny (they're not included on the HH menu) and the cocktails were also great (shout out to the bartending crew). We got parking in the supermarket lot behind the restaurant. Probably not legal, but it was close and got us to the restaurant in time to meet up with the rest of our party. All the pork buns and soups were great Service was stressed however. Place was crowded yet the cook came out from the kitchen to make sure he understood the particulars of the allergies that we were dealing with. We appreciated his concern. I went to Czen during labor weekend. They were having a "Bachanal & Brunch" event at the NJ and NY locations. When my friend and I arrived it was a bit empty and didn't seem to be hosting an event. Honestly, based on the area, it didn't give the impression it would have a good turn out for something like that. There was a dj so that was cool. The hostess and our server were friendly. Our server, deasia (not sure if that's how you spell it), but she was really helpful. The oxtail dumplings were delicious. I like the crispy outer layer. The oxtail entree didn't disappoint either. It was a good portion size and the oxtail was tender and flavorful. I got the pear pressure it was light and fresh and yet strong at time. There's only street parking and its metered. I gave this place a second chance, and unfortunately, it confirmed my first impression. On my initial visit, I was served a glass with visible lipstick stains, and the food was underwhelming. I decided to try again for Cinco de Mayo, hoping for a better experience, but the service fell short once again. No promised "Welcome Shot". Listed $7 Margaritas had a surprise $2 flavor upcharge and an automatic gratuity for a 2 person party for less than standard service. We were told we'd receive complimentary welcome shots, but ours never came, even though we saw other tables being served. To make matters worse, some tables were also given festive little Mexican hats, while we didn't receive anything, which made the experience feel inconsistent and overlooked. The food and drinks this time were decent, but nothing memorable. What really stood out (in a bad way) was being charged $8.50 for bottled water when we specifically asked for tap....especially when margaritas were only $7. Portion sizes are small, service is very slow, and the floor was noticeably sticky, which didn't help the overall experience. We came on a Sunday just to try a Caribbean restaurant as we are new to the englewood area. Free parking was a plus and only 10min away from us. A private party was just finishing so it was super loud but the back portion was empty which is where we sat. I knew if czen from Brooklyn and only at there once for lunch and remember it being ok. So was curious to see how the nj location would be. The food was ok. I tried a bunch of apps since it was happy hour still. I tried the crab cake which was big in size but I've definitely had better. Seemed more breading than crab meat. I tried the shrimp bao buns which were good. The wings were huge but again didn't wow us with rice and peas and just ended up taken home as leftovers. I ordered the curry chicken and was served what appeared to be the end of the pot -- scraps of meat that had fallen off the bone. For $37, I did not expect to receive leftovers or what looked like the remainder of the dish. When I brought it to the server's attention, I was told it was the end of the pot. That was very disappointing and honestly unacceptable at that price point. If it wasn't for my grandson being hungry, I would have sent the plate back. The quality and presentation did not match the cost, and it took away from what could have been a much better experience. Tried CZEN for the first time this week and it was great! Really cool atmosphere and it wasn't busy which was great. On Wednesday's they have an all day happy hour including food and drinks. To start we ordered an ole sole which appeared to be their take on an old fashioned and a few appetizers. We had the crispy rice with seared jerk tuna, CZEN egg rolls stuffed with jerk chicken and rice and peas, and the CZEN sushi roll topped with oxtail. Everything was incredible but I would have to say my favorite was the egg roll. For my second drink I ordered the margarita. Really solid cocktail second time around. What. I didn't like was that the waiter kept making jokes about my drink choices and drinks being too strong for me but said nothing to my boyfriend who ordered the same first drink. So I could have done without that commentary. Drinks were not strong btw. For an entree, I had the Saki Braised Oxtail with rice and peas and mixed vegetables. Absolutely wonderful food! Plesantly surprised!! You know the saying don't judge a book by its cover, well this is case and point. I was worried the chicken didn't have enough batter on it but it didn't even matter. It was filled with tons of flavor, juicy, and just enough batter that didn't take away from everything else. I got the hot honey on the side just in case it was TOO spicy and it was so I dipped my chicken to my liking. The hot honey came with a kick but still has a sweetness to it. Came here for their happy hour menu on a Wednesday evening in August and it was so much fun! I believe Wednesday nights is their $10 drink specials. My friends and I had their espresso martinis and ordered a few items from their happy hour menu. It was a little quiet in there but the music was good and the service is impeccable. CZEN (pronounced like Season) is a modern Caribbean & Asian Fusion restaurant that offers a variety of tasty dishes. If you're confused on how, you can fuse Caribbean and Asian foods think of sushi rolls topped with oxtail (yes, this does exist on their menu). Now let's get into everything else. As we walked in we were greeted by two very friendly hostesses that let us know that it would be a few minutes before our table was ready. That was not a big deal to us as we went to the bar to grab a drink while we waited. Surprisingly the location is on the smaller size but is very warm, inviting and I can even say cozy. Once our table was ready, we were walked back to a table that I have to say was sort of awkward in terms of the shape, but nonetheless we made it work. For entrees we tried a variety of menu items which included the P.E.I Mussels in the saki butter sauce, Shrimp Dumplings, Shrimp House Salad, Island Crab Cake, Yumi Corn & Crab Soup, Saki Braised Oxtail and Honey Butter Garlic shrimp. I have to be honest there were mixed reviews from on everything but overall, everything was good but not I wouldn't say great (hence the 3-star review). The highlights of the even were the mussels, the house salad with grilled shrimp, the crabcake and the oxtails. The rest left some to be desired. All in all we had a good time at CZEN. I've visited the restaurant 2xs so I want to give a comparison review. During my first visit, restaurant was packed with guests, atmosphere is great for social gatherings and service is awesome. Food on 1st visit was delayed due to timeframe (before theater show) but food wasn't even room temperature and tasteless. Second visit, restaurant was empty (approx 20 ppl) food took 45 minutes for a fried rice bowl and wasn't even room temperature. The food had little flavor and I wasn't sure if the chicken was completely cooked. Unfortunately, I wanted to have a better food experience, but I won't be coming back for a third visit. It would be great if they could monitor delivering the food to the tables a little quicker. read more

Unhappy employees all over, unkempt decor, overpriced and the audacity to treat your local family with such uncouth behaviour. There shouldn't be a damn price hack in a restaurant! -The food was actually a 10!. The space is firstly so cute, the decor is on par with the theme. Its a SMedium space, so I can see it getting crowded or there being a wait if you don't get there at a good time. Not sure if they take reservations but that would be a good idea to ask about. We went on a Monday and the kitchen was closing at 3PM so we had to hurry and get our orders in. The staff was really friendly, quick and efficient. We ordered, Chicken & Waffles, Lobster & Waffle, the Ackee & Sawfish, and a Salmon dish. We like everything except the Ackee. Being a family that often cooks Ackee, it just was as authentic to the taste we like. The Chicken and the sauce that came with it was SO good! The waffle was so tasty! The Lobster was OK, but it's lobster so it wasn't a LOT of meat. The drinks were really good. We ordered off the menu. After we finished eating, we grabbed a shot from the bar and called it a day. The portions were generous. The chicken. sandwich was pricy but it had two large patties and came with fries. My jerk chicken came with three prices along with rice and leas and veggies. My fiancé really loved his sandwich. He said the texture of the chicken was perfect and the honey really enhanced the flavor. He wasn't crazy about the fries- he said they added pepper to them, which he didn't like, and they weren't very crispy. My jerk chicken was good. I could taste some subtle Asian influence but I thought it mostly just tasted the regular jerk chicken to me. It was a little but on the peppery side. The rice and peas were very good. I liked the slight coconut taste. And the veggies were nicely cooked. Overall, we enjoyed the food from here and would be open to trying more of their menu. read more
