Cafe Metropole is a great breakfast spot with friendly service, good food, and a very clean space. We arrived right at 9am when they opened and were welcomed warmly, which always sets a good tone. We ordered the Catalina avocado toast and the chorizo burrito, and both were delicious, solid 9/10. Fresh, flavorful, and filling. You can tell care goes into the food. The only downside was that their fresh cold-pressed juices weren't ready yet when we were there. I personally don't love smoothies (they often feel like mostly blended ice with fewer veggie benefits), and the green smoothie on the menu wasn't really what I was looking for, so that was a bit disappointing. They only serve regular black coffee, but the lady working there was super helpful and recommended going next door to Catalina Cookie Company if we wanted lattes, which we appreciated. Overall, a great spot for breakfast with excellent service and quality food. Would definitely come back! read more

I came here for a late breakfast because I had heard good things about this place. I decided to try the spicy avocado toast and my husband ordered a breakfast burrito. We waited less than 10 minutes for our order. Luckily, this cafe is located inside the Metropole Marketplace so there's several tables right outside of the cafe. There's also one table inside the cafe but it only seats a party of 2. Honestly, the avocado toast looked pretty basic. And although it's advertised as the "spicy avocado toast," it really wasn't all that spicy because there wasn't a lot of sriracha put on top. I wish the bread had been toasted with some butter. I also wish the avocado had been seasoned with something because it tasted pretty bland. My husband was happy with his burrito, but nothing that was extraordinary or memorable. This was my favorite breakfast spot in Avalon out of the two I went to! I loved how many acai bowl and avocado toast options they had, but you could also get classic drinks as well as other baked goods. I ordered the açaí bowl with the açaí base and thought it was very good overall. There was a lot of fruit, and the base was very tasty. I was pretty hungry so I went with a turkey sandwich, and my mom who was less hungry got a smoothie. The sandwich was really big and did a good job of filling me up. They definitely didn't skimp on the turkey or avocado, which was great! I ended up swapping the bread for sourdough, which was a little stale, but not too stale that it ruined the sandwich. They had a few small tables inside and plenty of seating outdoors. They also had some market shelves with nicknacks like sunscreen, mugs, cookies, hats, among other things. Would've given this place 4 stars if it were on the mainland, but it's pretty unique for Catalina Island since most of the other restaurants are sit down. As soon as I got there, I must say the ambience was beautiful and welcoming. They had an interesting menu with a bunch of vegan and vegetarian options. I got the veggie Panini with a side of salad. I did request for no cheese in my Panini because I wanted it to be a healthy version. They had both inside and outside seating , which was nice. My food came out relatively quick. The Panini was cooked to perfection and the portion size for the salad was pretty good. The salad was fresh and tasted great with vinaigrette dressing. The Panini itself was delicious. I did request for a side of hot sauce just to spice things up. The vegetables were cooked to perfection. Overall, I think this café was a great choice. They also had some interesting smoothies. While in Catalina Island, my family of four decided to stop here to get something to eat.. My review will be 100% honest.. We ordered 4 BLTs and sweet potato fries, 2 smoothies, 1 beer and 1 boxed water.. this restaurant was WAY over priced!!!! One thing about me is that I will pay for good food and This was NOT it.. The bacon in the BLT was old, hard and cold. The sourdough bread was dry and maybe over toasted, The sweet potato fries, ehhhhh.... definitely not it. The smoothie was average, nothing spectacular.. My review was based on 1st: Customer Service and 2nd the Food quality. Both of these factors were below average. I do not think I will come back to this restaurant in the future, however, I do hope management takes a deeper look at their customer service and realizes the impact it has on their business. read more

You order at the counter and then you can go out and find a table in the outdoor patio. They have some great choices and we landed on their Savory Toast, both with over medium eggs. Served with two large pieces of sourdough toast, covered with smashed avocado that was lightly seasoned and covered with perfectly cooked eggs. My only suggestion was the addition of some greens! One of the other people in our party had ordered the Three Cheese pressed sandwich and I ended up taking some of his greens to add to my toast, which really topped it off. We just thought it was a little pricey for the punch and the food wasn't as tasty as the menu. Plenty of seats outside, and they don't have much coffee so you can go near to the coffee hub and bring it back, which was cool of them. I picked up a half sandwich & half soup combo with tuna panini and tomato bisque and it hit the spot. Gluten free bread is available for an additional fee. The storefront is pretty tight and they sell random merch like Catalina Island sweatshirts, mugs and popcorn.
