Not amazing but very good. Some interesting flavors and great service. For a tourist place, excellent.

Background On Sailors: Sailor's Delight Ice Cream Shop is a family-owned business founded in 2021 by longtime island locals who have been residents of Catalina Island since the 80s. Having owned Pete's Cafe and Stacy's Cards and Gifts in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's, they knew they wanted to continue to contribute to our community. They're happy to be able to bring ice cream back to 220 Crescent Ave, and to continue bringing memories to new and old generations of Catalina Island. Ice Cream Made in-house or sourced elsewhere. They get their ice cream from Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co in Wisconsin. Background On Visit: Temps at Avalon was hot enough to make you uncomfortable on the day that we visited. With that said, we went to Sailor's Delight to try their ice cream. Restrooms: No restroom. Credit Cards: They're available. Price Point: It's a bit pricey due to where the shop is located. Location: Located on Crescent Ave. (The locals call that street, Front Street) Ambiance/Decor: It's a little ice cream shop. Just enough to go in, try a sample or two, order what you want, pay, and get out of the shop to find a place to enjoy your ice cream while taking in the views of Avalon Bay. Service: Service was alright. Didn't feel rushed when we patronized that shop. Line wasn't long. Samples: You're only able to sample 2 flavors so I had to make a emotional decision based on my how I was feeling. Ice Cream Flavors Of Choice: I got a 2 scooper in a cup. Decided that the base should be the savory pb hearts chocolate (Peanut butter ice cream swirled with a smooth chocolate ripple and kissed with peanut butter cups) and the top scoop should be kitty kitty bang bang (Cheesecake ice cream mixed with a sweet raspberry ripple, Oreo cookies and soft chocolate chunks.). It was the greatest decision I made. Absolutely yum! It was a bit messy to eat, because it was literally melting on my hands. Make sure get plenty of napkins and some water to clean off your hands. Sailor Delight For Thought: Would love to come back and try their hearts of love and pistachio nut.

LOVE THIS SHOP! I wish I lived nearby, so I could visit every weekend! I am always on the hunt for dairy-free ice cream, and usually have to settle for sorbet at ice cream shops. Sailor's Delight went above and beyond and offered 3 different kinds of dairy-free ice cream! Black Cherry, Vanilla, and Chocolate Chip - all made with oat milk. I ordered the Black Cherry Oat and it was perfection. I would buy this if it was sold in pints at the grocery store. Not icey or grainy like other DF alternatives, but creamy and full of flavor!

Big fan of Sailor's. They serve quality ice cream aka "super-premium" from Wisconsin's Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream on Crescent Street across from Coney Island. Same location as Big Olaf's from days of yore (where apothecary tables come from). The store is pretty small, but it's more organized than Scoops. It's hard to look at all the flavors before you order, but it's doable. Kinda wish they'd put a "sandwich board" outside everyday listing the current flavors. I've ordered the Superhuman Ice Cream a couple times, and I can't quite describe the flavoring. The website says it combines cherry, Blue Moon and Vanilla ice creams. It was very flavorful!, super creamy, kinda thick and kept at the right temp. It's cool that they have special American flag cups on the 4th of July!

Recommended to us by our scuba instructor. She was telling us about the different eateries as we were walking to the diving area. I looked them up before stopping by. This shop is family owned and looks like they've been on the island since the 80s. They were not open at noon as scheduled. They were a few minutes late, but I noticed on their website that they said "hours and closures may vary." I wanted s'more to Love but they did not have enough to fill a scoop so I opted for chocolate and added chocolate sprinkles instead. Gavin ordered the superman (cherry, blue moon, and vanilla). The ice cream were creamy and not too sweet Not sure when we will be back, but we both finished our single scoop.

Great ice cream, the servers were very nice, no seating area inside but in catalina theres so many more better spots with views outside. Recommend to try if you come to catalina

This was the BEST place on the whole island. The ice cream shop is very tiny. The ice cream was soooo good. I walked in and received service right away. The ladies working here were nice and helpful. Ate my ice cream while overlooking the water. Definitely a memorable experience and ice cream treat. 5/5 stars!

Out of the three options, I would say this is my favorite ice cream shop on Catalina Island. They really stand out with their huge selections of interesting flavors and the staff was polite during our visit. They didn't have any flavors that I order on repeat but they had a ton of great options and some very interesting and unique flavors. Inside is very small and they don't have indoor seating options so this will be just to go. However it's located right on the water on Avalon Bay and right in the heart of downtown Avalon so it's a great place to grab some ice cream before you walk around and people watch. I will definitely be back next time I am on the island and plan to get it again tonight after dinner.

Top: Blackberry Lemon Bar, Bottom: Apple Cider Donut on a sugar cone!

Omg wow. Best ice cream spot in Catalina island according to the locals here! As we were driving around catalina island on our golf cart, we can't help but smell the fresh waffle cones coming out from Sailors Delight and knew we had to get some after returning our golf cart. There was a small line around noon when we got our sweet treat to cool down, but the line moved quick! I got 2 scoops (blackberry lemon bar and apple cider donut) because I couldn't decide on just 1 flavor. There was a great selection of flavors. I'm a sucker for lemon flavored foods and the blackberry lemon bar was so refreshing with pieces of lemon cake bar! The apple cider donut flavor was also very good. I loved the cinnamon flavor in the ice cream. Both paired perfectly together. Bf got a smores shake and enjoyed it so much he wanted another one!! It was rich and creamy. We will definitely be back again when we visit!

Bourbon infused I went from exhausted parent to elated parent.

SAILOR'S DELIGHT ICE CREAM - A WISCONSIN HYPE THAT IS FACTZ Located on the other end of the Catalina pier. There's three ice cream shops, this is the one you want to experience. Forget the generic, mass-produced frozen desserts; this is real ice cream, made with a smooth texture and experiential ingredients that dance well together. Walking in, you're met with a fun, airy vibe that makes you feel like a kid again. The playful menu is filled with creative, laugh-out-loud flavor names that make choosing a scoop half the fun. And the best part? Tasters are encouraged, so you get to explore before committing.  My personal favorite? "Exhausted Parent"--a bourbon-infused masterpiece. I don't like bourbon, but in ice cream.. Absolute perfection. The balance of flavors is spot on and indulgent. Like a good rum cake. This parent went from exhausted to elated. When you're on the island, Sailor's Delight, is a must. Not maybe. Not next time. It's the kind of treat that reminds you why real, handcrafted ice cream and calories is worth the stop. My recommend rewrite of the Google description, what do you think? "Sailor's Delight Ice Cream serves rich, smooth, and naturally flavorful ice cream made in Wisconsin--because if you think our cheese is the best, just wait until you try this.  Stop in for a taste, grab a scoop, and discover why real, handcrafted ice cream is worth it."

    Fat Elvis
    Melanie B.

Two words: Fat Elvis. Sailor's Delight Ice Cream was Catalina Island's saving grace for food and beverage. We came here twice during our 3-day stay...and I miss it! Peanut butter and chocolate ripples in a sweet banana cream? Perfection. Helped us fight off the heat and perfect to grab while walking around.

    Desiree V.

A sherbet you never thought you needed - carrot mango. A soft sherbet, melt in your mouth. Not overly sweet with mostly mango flavors, but the subtle sweetness of the carrot. Dairy free. Gluten free love. They also have old fashion vanilla, mint chip, and rocky road. What's great is they have oat based creamy selections and even some with a touch of coffee, espresso, or bourbon. Everyone one of us has only great things to say. Lastly, no seating inside, but ample seating all around.

Sailor's Delight: a MUST try while in Catalina!!
    Lorri D.

We visited Avalon for a short and relaxing honeymoon. We were there to treat ourselves in every way possible. And ice cream tops pretty high on that priority list. We tried a couple other places around but once we found Sailor's Delight, we just kept going back. No need to waste time in line for generic or over-rated ice cream... just head straight to this spot and find the absolute best gourmet ice cream on the island, if not anywhere! Now, listen, I say "gourmet" but I'm a Thrifty's girl, not a snob... I do like a Cold Stone or Italian gelato too. So hear me out, gourmet doesn't mean weird or snooty, at Sailor's Delight it means FANTASTIC and tantalizing flavors that you'll never forget! At the risk of sounding like a complete pig, I will tell you that more than once (possibly many times) I couldn't decide on a flavor so I had triple scoop in a cup! Yes, 3 heaping scoops at a time and loved every single bite. Although we tried nearly a dozen flavors between the two of us, here are some of the flavors that will remain in my fondest memories forever: - Blackberry Lemon Bar (lemon ice cream with blackberry sauce swirls and perfect chunks of poundcake) - Munchie Madness (I can't even tell you all the bits of candies that were turned inside this sweet vanilla ice cream with caramel ripple) - Party Animal (tastes like those pink and white animal cookies times 10) They've got Vegan and Non-Dairy flavors as well, tons to choose from. We tried the Raspberry Lemon Italian Ice and it was just the right amount of pucker and sweet. There are even some No Sugar Added options! Several cone options, but we like ours in a cup. We enjoyed each lick and each bite while watching the beautiful Pacific Ocean under the sun. Located across Crescent from the Metropole Market Place, right next to the water. Dare I say it is better than Lloyds, better than Scoops and better than Catalina Cones (which used to be our favorite). But all are just fine in their own rights, but Sailor's Delight is definitely a cut above in taste and service. Enjoy!!

I've been burned by barbecue before, so I played it safe with ribs and potato salad. 2. How Were the Ribs? The smokiness was spot on, but they weren't as tender as they could be. The sauce was delicious but sparse. 3. Was the Potato Salad Any Good? It hovered between "good" and "meh." Nothing special, but not bad either. 4. Why Skip the Macaroni & cheese? It looked dry and seemed like Velveeta cheese and pasta--not my style. 5. Any Desserts Worth Trying? The Smoked Tallow Pecan Brownie was sold out, which means it's popular. The banana pudding had only four wafers per container, so I passed. 6. Any Issues with Service? No takeout covers or foil, which was frustrating since the ribs were meaty. Also, no basic condiments like salt and pepper--staff seemed confused when I asked. The owner checked in, though, which was nice. 7. Final Thoughts? Not wowed, but not disappointed. A solid spot, probably in my top three on Catalina Island--but ice cream still takes the crown! "Your diet is a bank account.
