Went on a cruise out of LA and ended up on Catalina Island and I decided to drop in at Descanso Fresh. This place was so chill along with the service. I had an amazing time here along with a beautiful view of the ocean and Marina. I got the Dragon Fruit drink along with the Nachos that had fresh carnita meat and avocado drizzled sauce. Yummy ice cream! Pricey but boozy ice cream is always a good idea! The ice cream is handmade and they have a couple of choices for over 21 flavors. I decided to go with the buffalo milk because the island is apparently known for it. You can taste the vodka so it was pretty strong. I also got the oreo cheesecake flavor. They mixed very well together and the oreo one wasn't too sweet so that was great. Texture was good! We also got a vanilla bourbon shake thing and it was super strong. The sorbets looked really good too but I didn't think it would mix well with the creamy boozy stuff. read more

The homemade ice cream and abundant flavors are DELISH! 7/13/2014 This was our first time at the bar at DBC. We waited 30 minutes to set down but that was understandable on a Saturday afternoon. Our bartender Sara was Super!! She gave us a menu and we ordered right away. She was slammed but we got served in 3 or 4 minutes, she was amazing. They have a drink called a Destroyer but it was not as good as the Dr. Ward's Painkiller. This is as good as the ones we had in St. Thomas and may be better. They are not on the menu but just ask Sara. We did go to the food truck and that was a mistake. $10 chips and tablespoon of dip, a real waste of money. We did get the burgers and I almost sent this hockey puck back. The bread was hard, the burger was about the size of a quarter and the flavor was not good. I did get a slice of cheese, was overpriced for a slice of cheap cheese. The bacon was good but only half a slice..... poor form. DO NOT EAT AT THE FOOD TRUCK!!! Have Sara make you a couple of drinks, take the tram back to Avalon and eat there. I would have not given them 5 stars if we had just been there for the food, perhaps only 1. Great place for ice cream with unique flavors. They even have 21 and over ice cream! I got the Salty Garibaldi. It tastes like salted caramel blue ice cream with orange flavored crunch pearls. It's supposed to be the orange Garibaldi fish swimming in Catalina's blue water. Super cute! read more

Awesome ice cream! I went there once and tried a few flavors. I ended up getting a s'mores flavor which was awesome! The only reason it is getting 4 stars is because the hours are sub-par and you can't get the ice cream unless the place is open! I don't drink alcohol but they have alcohol infused ice cream which everyone raves about. read more

Got one scoop on cones for each kid on Sunday. They absolutely loved their flavors. The staff behind the counter were super nice and extremely helpful. We took a bit of their time asking questions about what the flavors were in the ice creams that didn't really give away their ingredients like Buffalo Milk and Salty Garibaldi. They were happy to explain what the flavors were and seemed genuinely pleased to let us sample as many flavors as we were interested in trying. The kids finally settled on a Salty Garibaldi and the peach orange guava sorbet. The Salty Garibaldi is delicious at first, but then gets very salty and makes you thirsty. However, my son really liked it. He enjoys salty foods, so this worked great for him. The sorbet was tangy and the guava flavor really came out. It was delicious if you enjoy tangy and refreshing. I had a taste of the Buffalo Milk which is one of their 21 and over ice creams. It is strong and flavorful. It has a coconut taste to it, too. I would definitely go back to this place for their generous single scoops and the opportunity to sit in the grass nearby to enjoy the ocean view. read more
