The only Asian food place in Avalon and it's just Chinese takeout food. It's greasy and salty but the varieties are not bad. It's weird that they don't always have hot and sour soup. It's a must have soup for any Asian eateries but not here! Kung pao & orange chicken are safe choices in my opinion. Not the best Chinese takeout but it will have to do in Avalon! read more

We hear of Chinese food & donuts but how about Chinese food & beignets! Mr.T's Chinese Kitchen offers Chinese food Panda express style with all the entrees laid out. You can get fried rice or chow mein on the side with either 1 or 2 entree combo plate. Mr. T's also sells breakfast sandwiches, beignets, juices and ice cream. I arrived on Catalina Island hoping for some breakfast but the pancake houses were packed with a line out the door. I went down a small block and found Mr.T's with no line. I went in to get a two entree plate of spicy shrimp and kung pao chicken. While on a bumpy golf cart ride, I was munching on Mr.T's while enjoying the beautiful island scenery! Wow the shrimp was SPICY hot burned my throat and made me cough. Kung Pao was a little spice and bearable. I was thinking how funny it was that the girl who prepped my food asked if I wanted hot sauce. Im glad I said NO. Taste was pretty bland but a whole lotta spice. I would love to see more Asian food on Catalina. OK quick bite for lunch. read more

Not so sure about their food as we didn't have any as we mainly came here for their beignets. Saw from a fellow foodie how good their beignets were and had to check them out since we were there for the day as it was one of the stops on our cruise. For a little over $6, you get 3 beignets. They are a lot smaller and cost more than ones I've had from New Orleans or at the Disney but they're pretty tasty and made fresh once ordered. A nice little place to get a taste of the sweet treat of beignets. I saw a Yelp review that this place served really good Beignets and I was craving something sweet. This little Chinese food place is tucked away next to Original Jack's Pancakes. The beignets seemed to be fresh and made to order. I waited about 5 minutes and they were warm with a perfect amount of sugar topping. After a full day of hiking sometimes you just crave some comfort food. The orange chicken bowl and beef and broccoli bowl hit the spot. The line to order was only a couple people at 2pm and the sidewalk seating was in the shade. Generally I eat healthier but would definitely come back read more

We stayed for a week on the island, found this place and came here a few times. I kept trying to get a taste of their beignets but they kept telling us to try back later or tomorrow. We kept checking in but never got it. I really wanted to be able to compare theirs to beignets made in New Orleans. The chicken noodle soup though was thee best. I love this place. Though I have never gone for breakfast (apparently the food is entirely different), I ALWAYS come for the Chinese. It's not authentic, but delicious. It's kind of like an even more delicious, hole-in-the-wall, Panda Express. The service is always instant and there is never a line. They have really awesome sauces and side dishes. I would specifically recommend their orange chicken, Chow Mein, and fried rice. It's in a central location among all the shops and Catalina tourism. Be sure to enjoy it on the beach!! read more

It was strange that I wanted Chinese food on Catalina, but I stumbled upon this kettle gem. It was next door to my favorite breakfast spot on the island. Unfortunately dues to Covid jacks was closed. I saw a few mixed reviews. First of all you have to remember all of the food on the island cost a bit more. It is a seasonal vacation spot and the have to ship stuff from the mainland. I thought the food was really tasty with large portions. I would come back for sure. When I went the service was great and the two people that were working in there were very friendly. We ate here upon arriving to the island and finding out Original Jacks wasn't operating (Covid), so we settled for this place because we were hungry. The server seemed angry and talked to is rudely ("what else?" After we would order something....sheesh!) The food wasn't worth the money they were charging either. Most items were $12-17. For Chinese fastfood?! No thank you. Lesson learned...never again. read more

I've tried many fast food Panda style Chinese restaurants all over So Cal. The one combo plate is pricey in comparison to the mainland but what do you expect on an island. I ordered the Broccoli Beef, Chow Mien, and fried rice and we both really liked it. Actually one combo was enough food for the both of us so it's a good value. read more

Avalon needs Asian food!! Without Mr Ming's it is seriously lacking, but this place kinda fills the space. Good fast food, no sit down like Ming's but the food is good with decent portions. A great space share with the bakery in the morning and Mrs T's at lunch. The bakery is good as well. read more

This place is a rip off, they charge $15.00 for a side of tasteless rice and noodles and their maid dishes lack any sort of protein!!! So what am I paying $15.00 for Mrs Ts?? Your cheap onions and broccoli you buy for $2.00 in bulk??? Not to mention they are so greedy they charge for FORTUNE COOKIES!!! This is unheard of, get a grip and stop ripping people off with your overpriced Chinese food! I hate to do this....but first off, the hours are horrible....they close at 3pm. Also the name is a bit deceiving...you would think a bake shop would have cupcakes, or pie, or some other pastry besides donuts? I grab a pan dulce concha (Mexcian sweet bread...one of the only non-donuts in the joint) and a $1.50 choco chip cookie for the wife. The concha is not bad, but I don't even finish it....the cookie is a bit doughy, cold, way overpriced and the wife tosses half of it, i didn't want it either....Guess I should have bought a donut.... read more

If you work up an appetite, I suggest trying Mrs. T's Chinese Kitchen and Avalon Bake Shop. One of the unique restaurants in Avalon. It is located inside the Original Jack's Restaurant Building on Catalina Ave, tucked between Avalon Liquor and the Lobster Trap. Their Bake Shop usually open at 7am and offers tasty breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and pastries but due to Stay at Home order they are only opening at 11:30am and closing at 7pm offering savory, authentic Chinese food. Last night Chad and I had the Chicken fried rice, beef and Broccoli, Kung pow chicken with Chow mien. It was made fresh and service was fast. It was exceptionally delicious and satisfying. The chicken and beef were tender and the cooked veggies were crunchy and fresh. The portions were hefty for a good price. They don't bake fresh. If you want their doughnuts when they're fresh you'll have to bribe the guy who makes them between 1am and 2am. Lol What happened to the days when you could smell fresh bread in the air all morning? Anyway, when you go to buy your 1.25 and or 2$ doughnuts know that they're almost day old by the time you get there. And please make some French curlers! read more

This is not based on the quality of food that they have there. With the name having bakeshop one would think they sell cakes there but guess what they don't! When I decided a 4 day vacation to catalina for my hubbys bday I wanted to surprise him with a cake on the day of his bday. I called the shop and asked if I could place an order for a cake the guy who answered didn't know if they did that hmm don't you work there? Shouldn't you know? I asked he said NO! Luckily he had a friend that baked cakes on her own time and said she would probably be able to make me one. I got in contact with her and she was able to make me one. I have to say that was one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever had! Just charged my wife $ 1 for a cup of hot water for our baby. Shame and disgrace. I do not know who the owner of this business is and what they are thinking. I have never been charged for a cup of hor water that I need to prepare our baby's breakfast. It does not seem like a business that shares the values of America and being proud to be an American. This review is for the Bakery, since the Chinese Kitchen was not available when we came. We didn't order much here, but the beignets and brownie we did order were really good. The beignets were a bit more towards the croissant type of dough than I've had other places, but they were still really good. The brownie was also really good and well worth the price. Definitely worth getting too early. read more

This place is fantastic! I came here everyday for breakfast during my stay. Very friendly, delicious breakfast croissant!! I don't eat meat, however he offered to give me fresh avocado instead (which was nice because usually restaurants/ cafes do not offer you$ off or replacements without asking.) The restaurant next door was our original destination but the line was too long and I was starving. Fast, friendly, and delicious. The guy who wrote a 1 star review over the $1 charge for hot water is an idiot. They have a severe drought here and NO PLACE on the island offers free water, only bottled, not tap. If you want to get on with your day and do fun things and don't want to wait for a table next door, I highly recommend coming here for a HUGE portioned, delicious breakfast sandwich. read more

First off, they don't start to serve lunch aka Chinese food until 11:30. So we come back and the food still isn't ready. Then we come back again at 12:30 and it was finally ready. The wontons are not good. The food takes forever to be made. The chicken is so fatty it's not even edible, it's chewy. I would not recommend. Also super pricy. Do not eat here. read more

They are trying to see what exactly you are possibly pointing to in the case, but as noted, you're talking thru a case of pastry. This is also true at the Fountain Valley location, where they only have a very small counter to check out with many people standing in line trying to have someone collect their order from the back. Maybe also ask WHY there is never any KINAKO donuts? I was there at 11 am and I got THE LAST ONE! If these are so popular, why don't you make enough to sell throughout the day?
