I like Bluewater because it's a safe option for larger groups and has enough variety that everyone can find something to eat. There were a few of us so we ordered beer, virgin coladas, regular coladas, calamari, fish tacos, fish and chips, a Caesar salad, and of course had several servings of their delicious sourdough bread with whipped butter. We were seated right up front on the water and under umbrellas so we didn't burn in the sun. The food came out at a nice pace with our favorite being the calamari. I enjoyed the mix of peppers and calamari. The fish and chips were good, though one of the pieces seemed a little rubbery and I thought it might've been the way it was cut before fried. We hung out for a couple of hours since it wasn't overly busy, were taken well care of by the staff onsite, and enjoyed the views and our meal.

When the waiter eventually headed in our direction, he walked past all of the waiting tables and stopped to talk with guests who had already been served. After sitting for 35 minutes without even receiving water or being greeted by a server, we left. The couple at the table next to us left as well. It truly felt as though the waiting tables were being deliberately ignored. There are many wonderful places to eat on Catalina Island, but based on this experience, I would avoid Topside.

Overall, food came out quickly, and the staff was very friendly - recommend for a casual dinner when you are on the island. Note that they only do bottled water.

We enjoyed our experience when we went in for some avocado toast & juice . It was recommended to us by a "local man" who toured us around that day . The barista was very friendly and the food was very good . We made plans to return the next day for another meal to end our vacation off . The barista at the front counter said they would be open at 9AM for breakfast and there was no sign/notice of being closed . Clearly she did not know what she was talking about considering we waited outside for 30 minutes for them to open . She should have let us know they would be closed and not feed us incorrect information . Wasted almost an hour of our time & watched several groups walk by and look around confused . We got coffee and continued to look around and wait , then left when someone explained to us they close sporadically & recommended us to eat at the toyon grille instead . read more

The food was delicious but pricey. Unfortunately, the service was lacking; the staff were a bit rude and didn't clear the plates from the surrounding tables. The drinks had quirky names inspired by well-known Catalina items, but the staff seemed annoyed when I mispronounced them, which made us feel uncomfortable. The ambiance was beautiful and cozy, except for the plates left on the tables. They didn't say goodbye to us when we left, even though we did. It felt like we were providing better customer service as customers than they were as cashiers, which was odd. Despite this, I would return for the stuffed avocado, which was great, as well as the Mediterranean salad and their pressed juices. Both times we went back up to the bar to ask about the food and we were told it was coming. Drinks were okay, expensive for what they are. Overall, what they present online is not reflective of the actual experience here, and it is still very expensive. I probably wouldn't prioritize coming here again.

Jack's Trattoria had availability and we were warmly greeted when we arrived. There are booths for families, a counter for breakfast service during the day, and tables that can accommodate larger groups. The restaurant serves generous portions of food and I highly recommend splitting dishes if you can! We split the Gnocchi al Pesto ($23), which was plenty of food for the two of us with a side of Caesar salad ($17). The Caesar salad was a huge serving with toasted croutons, but the dressing had a strong lemon flavor that was not our favorite. My daughter ordered the Fettuccine Carbonara ($22) and barely made a dent in the HUGE plate of pasta. The Carbonara was rich and flavorful, but I'd again suggest either sharing the pasta or having kids order off of the kid's menu. Kid's Menu offerings include Spaghetti with Meatballs, Fettuccine al Fredo, or Buttered Noodles. Overall, this restaurant provides generous servings of solid Italian food with the "island markup" prices we come to accept in Catalina. Jack's Trattoria is a solid option if you're craving Italian cuisine, but just keep in mind this would likely be rated more like a 3.5 in comparison to other Italian restaurants back on the Main Land.
