I spend a lot of time in this cafe, mostly for studying. As a study location, this place is pretty OK. They have abundant seating and free wifi. I've never been disappointed by any food or drink item I've gotten here. I normally go with a salad, which is big in size and come with some bread. Their cakes and pastries are pretty on par too. Teas and coffees are pretty good; nothing life-changing. The cons are that the lighting is not the best, especially on the second floor. There are also not nearly enough outlets to satisfy the number of laptops. If possible, bring a power strip and be the hero of those around you. It gets pretty packed around midterms and finals, but overall, I enjoy studying here. read more

Cafe Milano has two floors that are significantly different in their atmospheres. The top floor is brighter & generally quieter with people studying and eating at smaller tables. The bottom floor has always seemed a bit drabby to me - cold and darker - but is equally populated with people meeting & studying. So overall, it is definitely a good place to get work done as most people around you will be trying to do the same. I am not a fan of their coffee or pastries, but their salads & watermelon juice are great. If you have to make a choice for the day, I'd say head down to Musical Offering Cafe or up to Strada to get your coffee & ambiance fix. read more

These meals are healthy and tasty! This is also a great coffee spot. Cafe Milano is a bustling campus hub. It's close and convenient to campus. I like the salads and sandwiches. I've been going there for 3 years. The staff is friendly and welcoming. However, the tables are a little on the small side and the wifi is very slow. The bottom half of this cafe is wheelchair friendly, as long as there are not too many people. The other patrons are typically very accommodating to wheelchairs. It's important to note that there are stairs up to the second level. read more

I've been here on various occasions throughout my time at Cal. Honestly the only reason I see for people coming here is the study space. Any time you come here you will probably spend some time looking for seating since a lot of students LOVE coming here to study. But if you find a place, you're good. I'm not even sure what to say about the food; I've had a BLT before and it was average but the high price didn't reflect in the quality of the sandwich. I've had their version of an iced mocha frappe (mocha glacier) and it had no flavor and mostly ice. I've had a regular latte and it seemed like they had their espresso sitting out before they poured it in because it definitely tasted like it (past barista experience - always pour espresso asap!) I've had their Italian soda and it was average, I recommend lime over anything else. Their service is pretty good though so I'll give them that for sure. read more

Oh Milano, where coffee culture and academia come together like both were somehow destined for one another. Despite the dim lighting and the lack of outlets for laptops, everyone loves Milano. Because of the coffee; because it's cheap and strong... not regular strong, but rip-the-paint-off-walls strong. Starbucks would never serve battery-acid coffee like this because the yuppies would go crazy. Because hedge funds throughout the world would start trading too quickly, because the world would spin off its axis and disappear into the nether-regions of space. I spent a lot of time at Milano, during what I now know to be the good old days: hopped up on caffeine and peanut butter cookies, studying econ or psychology or math, trying to develop some kind of leveragable skills that would afford me a high paying job in the city across the bay. And thinking about the nether-regions of the sorority girl at the table across from me. If you go often enough, the guys at Milano will start making your coffee when you walk in the door, they'll ask you how your semester is going and carve CAL or a happy face in the foam in your coffee; your finals and your morning-afters will be forever changed for the better. read more

Nice ambiance for a cute cafe. Unfortunately the barista was curt and was recycling already steamed milk for my cappuccino. When I saw him pouring milk that had already been steamed for another drink into the steamer for my drink I asked for soy instead, hoping at least for new milk. Same thing. Reused milk (and a dirty steaming wand!!). The Italian soda was weak and watery, less than half a shot for a large soda. 2 stars for ambiance, 0 for drink quality and customer service. read more

I would have given this cafe a one star, except they have good soups. Last semester, I came here every week for study group sessions and would always order their regular coffee. First, their coffee TASTES LIKE SHIT. I know, i always order it and never learn my lesson, and end up throwing that shit away after taking a couple of sips. I started ordering the mocha coffee which does a better job since the chocolate powder masks the taste, but you could still taste the shitty coffee bean that they use. Second, i have ordered soups for here as well as to go. They give moderately well proportions if you order it for here, but when i ordered it to-go the second time, it was half the proportion for the same amount of price. Third, I ordered one of their sandwich two weeks ago since i've heard from friends that they make really good sandwiches. When I received my order, i was disappointed and pissed to find 2 FREAKIN LONG STRANDS OF HAIR running across my sandwich. Seriously?! I've been a regular at this place, usually ordering just the flavored italian soda since all their coffees taste shitty, so im sure the workers their recognize me, but don't give off that friendly vibe at all. seems like they're only there for profit. i'd rather take my cash elsewhere, spend a couple more dollars and go further to starbucks or peet's to get a better quality coffee read more
