Happy New Year and decade, Yelp family! After seeing recent photos of the gorgeous desserts and tonkatsu - one of my favorite foods - at Cafe Mixx on social media and Yelp, I told the hubs we had to check out Cafe Mixx/Cafe Bora the next time we were in Suwanee. Sure enough, we were nearby on Lunar New Year's Day, so my heart was set on coming here for an early lunch. Note: I'm not 100% clear as to why there are two names for the business, but I believe Cafe Mixx may be the local name of the South Korean chain called Cafe Bora. (Please correct me if I'm wrong!) As soon as I walked in, I loved the look of the interior. The restaurant looked so clean, cozy, and adorable. The hubs and I had our little future Yelper with us, so we were also pleased to see that there were two stacks of high chairs for babies by the entrance. Options for Cafe Mixx's entrees and savory dishes are limited to different types of "katsu" (cutlets, including a Fish Katsu for pescatarians), fried chicken wings, Sausage Rice cake Skewer, and Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), but I like that their menu is so simple. The focus is definitely on their desserts and cafe beverages. I already knew what I wanted, and after the hubs decided what he wanted, we placed our orders at the counter, paid, and received a buzzer. The hubs grabbed a high chair and found a table while I snapped photos of the interior. Less than 15 minutes after placing our orders, our buzzer went off and we went back to the counter to get our food. | Entrees | * Pork Loin Tonkatsu ($9.95) - The tonkatsu (pork cutlet) was served with a cup of miso soup, cabbage salad, bread and butter pickles, pickled ginger, a scoop of white rice, and a side of tonkatsu sauce. The tonkatsu breading was good, but it would have been even better if it was a little crispier and didn't fall off the pork so easily. I thought the sauce was decent but it tasted strongly of ketchup and not my favorite tonkatsu sauce (Bull-Dog). Everything else was good and the price was right for a satisfying portion of food. * Crispy Chicken (Fried Wings; Small - 7 pieces, $9.95) - The hubs had a choice between hot and mild wings, and he chose hot. I tried one and thought it was delicious! The chicken had a perfectly crispy batter and the meat was juicy, but there was only a very slight heat to it. Honestly, it reminded me of Popeyes, but no complaints about that. The only thing that the chicken comes with is a small bowl of cubed, pickled radish. It isn't served with any sauces, either. I guess this is meant to be more of an appetizer than an entree. Fries would have been the perfect complement, but alas, they don't serve fries. The pickled radish was fine but it would have been nice to be able to choose a different side. | Dessert | The hubs and I aren't usually big on desserts, but I knew we had to try one of them. I mean, they're mainly known for their desserts! I'm not a fan of purple sweet potato, which seems to be their signature ingredient for their popular purple desserts. (In fact, "bora" means "purple" in Korean.) I chose the Matcha Tiramisu. * Matcha Tiramisu (Small, $3.95) - This was unlike any tiramisu I had ever had before. The matcha powder-dusted tiramisu was creamy (a bit milky) with a bit of cake at the bottom of the cup. I loved that it was only slightly sweet and very light - not heavy or dense. The small size was sufficient for me and hubs to share since we both just wanted a taste of the dessert, but I think I could have eaten the whole thing. I recommend this to matcha lovers who just want a light and simple dessert here! Overall, Cafe Mixx/Cafe Bora gets 4 stars for their good food and tasty dessert. I typically try not to review a place unless I've been there more than once, but I wanted to share my experience here since I'm not sure when I'll be back in the area again. However, I'm sure the hubs and I will return and look forward to trying a different katsu and dessert next time! "Love it" I'm confused what name to call this organization. They have a road sign for their restaurant as Cafe Mixx and the sign on the door and on the inside said Bora Cafe. Anyways... my wife and I ordered the hot fried chicken and the pork cutlet. Very very good ! Will definitely come back whenever we are in town. I've been here a couple of times for their very pretty desserts, but never their food. Well I tried it last weekend and it was delicious!! We got the donkatsu (fried pork cutlet) and hot crispy fried chicken wings. The donkatsu was thick and had a light crisp to it unlike any other donkatsu I've had (and I've had my fair share). The fried chicken wings weren't tossed in a spicy sauce, it was already in the batter so clean fingers FTW! They were so juicy & I highly recommend!! Came here with some girlfriends today cause we were starving and y'all....their seasoned fried chicken...MUST HAVE!! I wish I got a 14 pc instead of 7 because it was just that good!! So crispy yet the meat instead so was juicy and so flavorful with a slight kick. The tonkatsu was also very crispy and juicy. The sauce that comes with it pairs perfectly. We also tried their purple sweet potato bingsoo and coffee float and wow...great desserts after a yummy meal. The bingsoo was so light and refreshing. That would be a perfect summer treat!! Instagram was good at advertising Cafe Bora aka Cafe Mixx. The photos made you wanna go get some food and desserts like right now. Cafe Bora is a popular Korean cafe in Seoul. My Korean friend really likes it. Then more friends went to visit it and liked. Therefore, my turn! Suwanee is becoming Ktown now! Move over Duluth! You will see Cafe Bora sign in the front but if you park on the side, you will see Cafe Mixx. When I went on a Wednesday night, the workers were bored and were sitting down chatting. They saw me and one immediately got up to take my order. He was nice but not outgoing, didn't recommend me anything. I said I wanted the spicy pork cutlet and wanted to try that purple sweet potato. It's soft serve and I want. I paid with my card and every time I do that, it ask for tip. I did leave a tip, thinking they will bring out my food. Wrong. I took a buzzer. 10 mins or so later, buzz. I went to pick up my food. Presentation is good. I couldn't carry all my food at once. No, they didn't even offer to bring me my ice cream. I had to come back and pick up. The sauce for the pork is delicious. The pork is thinly pounded to make it look even bigger. It's nicely fried and crispy. Once I ran out of sauce, the fried pork is plain. I almost asked for more sauce but didn't. I was thinking more why did I tip them? The cole slaw that came with the dish was so tasteless. No flavor either. It was crips but so bland. When I tried the purple sweet potato soft serve ice cream. It was yuck. No flavor at all!!! Maybe I'm thinking it would taste like ube. I'm obsessed with ube. It look like ube. I get that it's not ube but it has no flavor and wasn't even a hint of sweetness. I decided to not finish it. I'm so sad. So you gotta get up and put your plate up and throw away your food. Cute clean cafe :) they have so many choices for dessert including bingsoo (sweet potato, strawberry, persimmon etc) and tiramisu as well as ice cream . I got the persimmon bingsoo ($9) which came with cute stacked dishes holding extra persimmon syrup , condensed milk, and sweet potato chips with walnuts. The bingsoo was really good and not that sweet but the persimmon flavor wasn't super prominent. However, it's really pricey even compared to other place's bingsoo since the bingsoo is so small. I loved the purple potato chips the best! If I come back I'll try the purple potato ice cream. read more

I have to admit, I ONLY came to this place due to its' minimalistic and cute aesthetic. With that being said ... let my review commence! I'm a stickler for cleanliness. I will not eat somewhere that is not spotless. There are countless times I have bought food and threw it away after noticing dirty utensils, unswept floors, oily tables, oil stains on plates and so much more. However, this place was spotless, which could be due to it being fairly new. Cafè is definitely the right word to describe the shop. They do offer actual food outside of their desserts and drinks though. I came here with one another person and we ordered the purple yam soft serve and an iced americano. I don't like super sweet things and the soft serve was just that. You could taste the actual flavor! With that being said it wasn't anything spectacular. very aesthetic in here and calm enough for studying. the decorations are very pretty and the staff is nice cheese tteokbokki: the best tteokbokki ive ever had, the sauce was really good and there was plenty of cheese. the rice cakes were cooked well too milk ice cream: my favorite flavor of ice cream and this one didn't disappoint. super creamy and perfect sweetness. persimmon bingsu: the sweetness and creaminess balanced with the fresh sweet taste from the persimmon so well. perfect combo for any season. matcha milk: a little sweet but it wasn't bad! i like the matcha they used. carbonara tteokbokki: it was creamy and the flavor was really good, the onion wasn't too soft which i really liked. for some reason i thought it would be spicy but it wasn't, but it was still good! cold brew float: the coffee was so good. i don't think ive had a coffee that good in ages and when the ice cream melted into it the taste became sweet and creamy while still maintaining the intense flavor. injeolmi tiramisu: the base (is that what it's called? the cake part) was so well made. i was expecting it to be super dry but it wasn't, and the cream was sweeter, so they complemented each other. the powder on top is good but eat slow so you don't inhale it. fried dumplings: a bit dry on the outside but when you bite into it there's a burst of flavor. the crispness is really nice. strawberry cake: the bread part is moist and goes well with the lightness of the cream. the fruit adds a great contrast. mango bingsu: it was really good, the mango was sweeter than i expected it to be but i still really liked it. dutch coffee: i really like the coffee they use here. the taste was strong enough, it had a really good flavor i don't know how to explain purple yum tiramisu: i like purple sweet potato a lot so i loved this one. sweet and the sweet potato flavor is definitely there. read more

Super cute Korean style cafe with a touch of zen vibes. I got their signature purple sweet potato bingsoo and purple latte. The bingsoo came in a small clay bowl topped with sweet potato purée along with extra sauce and sweet potato chips on the side. The bingsoo has had just the right amount of sweetness but not overpowering, but you can always add the additional milk and purée that it came with. I had a big lunch before heading over here, but I was eyeing the tonkatsu plate that another customer had ordered and it looked amazing. They have quite a bit of variety in their menu and I will definitely come back soon to try some other items. read more

I honestly think it's a bit overpriced for the portions that you get. I got the Cheese Donkatsu, Sweet Potato Tiramisu and the Mango Bingsu. All tasted great! But the prices for the portions were a little disappointing. I've tried this same chain in LA and was very disappointed because it didn't even taste good after I paid 10 dollars for a small bingsu. But at least this time the taste was way better! I'm sorry I can't give it a better star rating though because I think getting good portions for the price one pays is really important. read more

The pictures in the review looked to die for so we did ourselves a favor and stopped by and got some desserts! Surprisingly they had quite a selection to choose from so we ordered a few desserts and some fried chicken! Their fried chicken was flaky and crispy and juicy and spicy!! It was soooooo yummy!! The desserts were good too! I had the matcha tiramisu and the kiddos tried the red bean and strawberry shaved ice (I think it was called bingboo) . I originally thought it was a dessert spot but they also had food options as well and it smelled so amazing! I think I'm going to come back to try the pork cutlet and the curry stew! I've been to this place a thousand times and their donkatsu and desserts are one of the best in Atlanta. The persimmon bingsu is my personal favorite as it combines the softness of the bingsu with the sweetness of persimmon. I love the set up and highly recommend to anyone who loves bingsu. I've tried their meal menus and their donkatsu is so good especially the spicy one. The price is pretty cheap compared to the amazing taste and the portion size. I got the purple sweet potatoe chip for the first time and it had a smell that you get from an old potatoe chip, so I suggest you skip on it. Love everything else! read more

Newer cafe in Suwanee/Lawrenceville area in a very busy area right off 85. Located next to the Waffle House. Plenty of parking available. Restaurant was very bright and well lit. It was clean. Decor was very chic and modern. Great for the perfect insta photo! You order at the counter. They give you a little alert device to let you know when your food is ready for pickup at the counter. After eating you also clear your own plates and return the tray to a rack next to the counter. Water is self serve in tiny plastic cups. I just got the fried chicken. It took about 15 minutes to come out. It was juicy, tender, a d had a very crisp crust. Some of the best Korean fried chicken I've ever had! Came with a side of radishes. The menu also had lots of dessert options along with coffee drinks. There were lots of people there doing work on laptops. I assume there is wifi. Very cozy and inviting environment. I actually tried out this cafe back when the LA location, Cafe Bora, was still there. After finding out that they had moved to GA, I had to give it a try!! I took my mom with me since we both love purple yams and ordered the Purple Sweet Potato Bingsoo and the Bora Milk. Both were delicately sweet and the presentation was just as elegant as I remembered. My mom was so enamored by the milk bottles that she wanted to order another one! My friend and I got the peach tea, which was very nice! :) It was $6.50 for a kettle of tea, which I thought was expensive at first. But then again, that is cheap in comparison to bubble tea and much healthier lol. The interior of the restaurant is very neat and quaint, and the customer service is friendly and accommodating. In terms of studying-spot potential, there are plenty of outlets, but the WiFi wasn't working the day I visited. I will come visit again in the winter/late autumn when the weather is chilly and calls for a hot cup o tea. read more

They didn't have my favorite shaved ice (melon) but I decided to go with the persimmon shaved ice since the fruit is in season. It was just what I was craving. The shaved ice was very fluffy and soft while the persimmon purée was smooth and not overly sweet. It comes with extra condensed milk and persimmon if you're into a sweeter dessert. I think this will be a nice date spot or something considering how beautifully presented the food is. The curry tonkatsu was nice and crispy. Although the portion looks small because how huge the plates are, it filled me up. The rice tasted a little bit old however. Cafe Mixx has some of the crispiest donkatsus I've ever tasted. The only difference between the two donkatsus pictured were in the sauce- regular being a hearty gravy like sauce whereas the spicy sauce delivered on spice while still having a hearty consistency. The desserts are pleasant as well. The bingsoos looked small but can definitely feed two people no problem and add on a tiramisu or an ice cream and that can feed three easily. Can't wait to go back and try more items on their menu! read more

Overall...so delicious! A friend posted a photo of this place literally an hour before we made the drive here. Right next to a Cinnabon it's a simple grey building that didn't look too impressive. They had their soft opening 7/9 and I believe they're now officially open? Not entirely sure. Service: when we came in it was jam packed. The workers in the back were focused as they got all the orders made. Our cashier was friendly as she took the time to give suggestions on what we should order. In the end they give you a buzzer that vibrates when your order is ready. We were told ahead of time, that the Bingsoo (korean shaved ice) was going to take some time. Food: so we ordered a little too much for our first visit, but it was only because we were too excited to try the items on the menu. What we ordered... - Persimmon Bingsoo ($9) - Purple Sweet Potato Bingsoo ($9) - Small Purple Tiramisu ($3.95) - Purple Sweet Potato Latte ($4.50) Every was delicious. Not too sweet and not too overwhelming in taste. A bit overpriced for the size, but the presentation was very nice and cute. The bowl that the bingsoo came in seemed small for the price we paid, but it was very filling. I would recommend 2-3 people for finishing just one shaved ice. With each order of shaved ice you get a small bowl of additional syrup which I thought was such a nice touch! You also get this glazed purple sweet potato chips? The Tiramisu was my favorite, a little heavier since they had purple sweet potato filling. But it was the natural sweetness that wasn't too unbearable. I think a small is plenty unless you're sharing with a larger group. The drink wasn't too bad, not sweet and thick. I personally didn't care too much for it. I think I'll just stick with a coffee next time I come in. They do have entree options, but it's all different tonkatsu variations. I didn't order it but the prices for those tend to vary between $10-$12 depending on which choice you get. Interior: open space with plenty of tables. We just happened to come in the middle of a rush so we had to sit on the couch and wait out a table. They have high countertops for people who want to sit closer to the window. Very brightly lit and modern. It's a cute spot to bring a date or just a group of friends. 5/5 - I think this is a great place! Not too loud even when we came during a rush. It's a bit out of the way for me but it's a cute spot I'd definitely would want to try out again. **the place goes by Cafe Mixx, but on the outside it also says Cafe Bora which is a bit confusing. read more
