I am torn on my review because the food was OK. Nothing great but decent food. I had a chicken wrap, and it was good, nothing to write home about but decent. My husband has the veggie burger and he said it was dry and bland. This was a quick visit for us because we were on or bikes and we appreciated the attentive server. This restaurant was a delight. It's been a long time since I've had excellent service, The waitress was energetic, polite and kind and came to the table at least 5 times. Came into this place thinking it was gonna be good and it was the complete opposite. I ordered a Mary Margarita and it tasted like they just poured tomato juice. Our sever didn't check on us at all and it wasn't even busy. She tried to force us to take the food and pay for it after we told her we wanted to leave. When I paid she tried overcharging and I asked like 3 times why she was overcharging and she pretended to not hear me and proceeded to still overcharge when I thought she was going to fix the problem. I have no receipt and never once signed for anything as well. I don't recommend this place if you're a POC cause the treatment won't be the same. read more

I used to be a huge fan of this place. Since the new owners have taken over, the place has taken a MAJOR nose dive. Food is not the same and tastes bland, you can clearly tell they went from using high quality goods to the cheapest goods. They were known for getting food out quick and now the food takes forever (and still doesn't taste good). It appears the new owners have fired tons of the old amazing staff, which was half the reason my wife and I would go! A place is only as good as its best employee and since the owners are clearly the only employees now, this place sucks. Absolutely amazing. My family and I have been eating here for almost 7 years. There is great, fast service, and all of the food is homemade and tastes fantastic. We have been coming to this place for almost 15 years. Loved the food, the wait staff. Since the new ownership, the portions are smaller, the prices higher. They boast about their new order technology but it takes 5 times longer to get your food and there was hardly anyone in the place. Great place for breakfast in a town that is overcrowded with options. While some complain of the decor, I think it fits this place perfectly. Wonderful food, fantastic staff, and a great counter area (which is important at any diner) make this one of the best places from breakfast in Crystal Lake. Went here for the first time this weekend, and I quite liked the traditional diner atmosphere. It was small, but the servers are clearly well loved by customers. Our server was very kind and accommodating. I ordered the ham and egg sandwich with the substitution of croissant bread, and I found that the croissant was very soggy; there was A LOT of ham (almost too much to bite into); and the egg was almost nonexistent at the bottom. The hash browns that came with were decent -- just need a little salt and pepper. Beware the large portion size of them, though. This was a meal for a starving person. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable, and the whole thing cost about $20 for two. Also, MUST have cash. read more

My mom, girlfriend and I hit this place up on a Saturday morning. (This morning, to boot.) I had the impression it was going to be busy but perhaps because of the impending thunder storm and current rain and fog -- plus some flooding in Algonquin -- it was a little short. Actually, it was just right customer-wise. It wasn't at the annoying level of hyper-busy nor was it awkwardly devoid of human life. But again, this may be because of the weather conditions. Sundays should be worse than Saturdays, though. At any rate, it was my first time at the Olympic. I've lived in Crystal Lake all my life and I haven't been here ONCE. I am sorely sorry for this. I've been missing out. How can I describe it for Crystal Lakers? It's like a low-key Around-the-Clock, with much quicker service and much better food. Check this out if you haven't already. They are repeatedly recognized as one of the best Diners in McHenry County and now I understand! The environment is welcoming, the staff was friendly and the service was great. It was a very busy day but the staff did an excellent job taking care of everyone. 5 stars + for the outstanding food. Service was good. It was crowded on Sunday and no place to wait in the "Greek" Restauarnt. Some waited outside. But had to constantly come back in to see if name was called. Extremely disappointed in this place... went here for the first time today @ 9:30 am..Crepes were ok... hash browns tasted frozen, toast tasted old and cheap.. on top of that the skillet we got, the eggs we ordered "over easy" and they came hard.. we also had something hard and inedible in it. It took the server 30 mins to come over for us to tell her and ask what was in it.. Mind you the servers are on their phones not even minding the customers, what kind of customer service is that??? When she came back she said "we had a power outage, and it may just be dirt..from a hard mushroom.." excuse me? Are you kidding me? We wont be returning. read more

Chris pretty much makes everything. I especially like breakfast here. They make a good cup of coffee and you can't go wrong with eggs and bacon or an omelette. Olympic has the best soup around. They make it fresh everyday and I've had many different soups here, they're all fantastic. It's perfect on a cold day. Is this gourmet food? Of course not, but it's reliable and consistently good. I like this place. And I like going here. But there are some issues. The service is good. Sometimes it can be great, sometimes it can be just ok. Depends on what waitress you get. Also the hostess' can be snotty at times, not sure why but that needs to improve. The food is good and overall I will continue to go. Five star greasy spoon breakfast experience. Down right delicious basics. I had a bacon, mushroom, avocado and American cheese omelet that hit the spot. Hash browns were actually seasoned! Authentic greek diner in the tiny downtown area of CL. Staff is friendly and seems to know most of their customers. Soup is home made and delicious - do not miss the Chicken Azteca. Diner is small and clean, staff is attentive and prices are good. Menu is a mishmash of a little bit of everything as one would expect from any self respecting greek owned diner. The Olympic serves, overall, the best food in Crystal Lake. From breakfast, lunch to dinner you'll always get something good. The decor is that of an old diner and the staff is warm and friendly. The prices are very affordable and if I had to knock them on something it would be they don't take plastic, but they do have an ATM machine in the place. This is my home away from home and any time we have visitors this is my go-to palce to take them to eat to show off what wonderful places we have in our community. The Olympic (I'm told) is the oldest continuing place in Crystal Lake. Owned and operated by Greeks these guys know how to cook! read more

Oh. My. God. Biscuits and gravy to DIE FOR. Artery clogging deliciousness that would put any southern grandma to shame. Seriously just the best breakfast around, very urban feel which is odd for out here in the NW burbs. Everytime I come here I say I'll get something besides breakfast, but I never have because why try something new when you know what's awesome? Service is OK, but really you don't expect much when you walk in, so it's easy to be impressed. I love that you can see into their (very clean) kitchen and watch them cook.
