Decent, not amazing but decent. I went here with my mom a while ago and it was pretty nice, great place to go if you just want some filling food for a cheap price. The aesthetic of the place is nothing to call home about, but it's simple and that's good about it. When I got my home fries, most of them where undercooked but everything else was decent. They said they had no maple syrup, and that made me slightly sad because I had nothing to put on my french toast. Service was quick and they where nice. read more

This was my first time at the new location, which is charming. The staff is charming (in a diner kind of way) and the service was good. The food on the other hand was mediocre. Potatoes were really soft and tasted like bad water and the rest was lacking flavor. Re-review: When I go out for breakfast, I look for an omelette better than what I can do in my own kitchen. While the staff is friendly and the speed of food delivery almost superhuman, I still wish there was something *more* going on here. But if you like the good, old fashioned local diner go here. I had the breakfast sandwich with homefries. The sandwich was very good with a very nice melty creamy cheese and well cooked eggs and sausage. The home fries were only ok, i've had better at Union street grill and Red Arrow diner. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired and the service was merely alright. I had really high expectations i suppose with several people raving about the Cafe, but i was not as pleased as i thought i would be. Had breakfast at Café on the Oval this morning (a Sunday morning). It was pretty busy but the wait wasn't long - maybe 10 minutes. First I'll say that there are two reasons I go to a restaurant for breakfast. One reason is that we are out and not able to make our own. The other is to go someplace where we really like the breakfast. My wife makes the best breakfast but I don't always want to make her cook on a Sunday morning. We recently moved to the area and have tried a lot of the breakfast places. We were looking forward to trying Cafe on the Oval. Café on the Oval is a diner. Nothing fancy about it. We were comfortable from the moment we sat down. We were attended to right away. Coffee was really good. I ordered the #4 breakfast (Eggs with cheese and bacon, homefries and toast). I also ordered a side of the corned beef hash. My wife ordered the #2 breakfast (scrambeled eggs, homefries and sausage and a grilled cinnamon roll). After we ordered, we noticed a white board on the wall with other items not on the menu. Our waitress never pointed it out to us or even told there were other items available. And I was interested in one of the items but it was too late. Food came out pretty fast (as I would expect with breakfast). Homefries are a big deal to me. The homefries we both received were nothing more than boiled potatoes that were cut up and lightly heated on a flat top. They were unseasoned and bland. Absolutely some of the worst homefries I've ever encountered. Shouldn't even be called homefries - should be called cut-up boiled potatoes. Sausage was the typical frozen stuff you can get at Market Basket but I didn't hold that against them. Actually, the best breakfast sausage in the area is at the Northeast Café in New Boston. The corned beef hash was only ok - nothing very special at all. Looked and tasted only slightly better than canned. The only reason I believe it wasn't canned was because I got one bigger stray chunk of corned beef than I would have in canned. The hash was mushy like canned (like canned dog food) and looked like it had been heated on a flat top into a hash pancake type of thing. The good corned beef hash is across the oval. But it costs more. So why did I give the restaurant 4 stars? Because of everything else. My eggs were great! Pretty hard to scew up eggs but these were done well. The toast was incredible (I guess they make their own bread). The grilled Cinnamon roll was something special. Waitstaff was great. The place is clean and comfortable and family friendly. Prices are good. I also gave it four stars because the things I didn't care for (the homefries, hash, sausage, etc) could easily be fixed. This place will not be a destination for breakfast for us - there are so many other local places that do breakfast better - even other places on the oval are much better. But we will return to try lunch. I'm looking forward to a sandwich on that bread. read more

My fiancée and I often go to the Red Arrow for breakfast, but on a whim we decided to try the Cafe on the Oval for a change. We were so glad we did! Upon seating ourselves, we were greeted immediately and offered hot coffee which was fresh and delicious. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches and home fries and it was pretty much like a home cooked meal. (The sandwich comes with cheese, tomato, and onion, should you want all that- at $5 and change it's an amazing bargain.) My bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy, and the ham slice my gal ordered was so tasty & generously portioned that it was enough for two people. Service was incredibly perfect. read more

I lived in Milford for about a year and this was my go to place for breakfast. It has that home town feel to it and the people there are quite friendly. I have yet to have a breakfast there I didn't like. The hash (which can sometimes be a gamble at breakfast places) was scrumptious and they even make their own bread which is a big plus in my book. There are so many breakfast spots on the Milford Oval, but the Cafe On the Oval really stands out from the rest. The food is good, you get what you order. Theres nothing fancy about it, but its always great quality and plenty of it. (they do make their own bread, which is great) What Iike the most about this place is the service. The staff is friendly and quick. You will walk in and within a matter of seconds have your cup of coffee! They take your order and your food is out within minutes..literally maybe 5 min if that. Its amazing. I can't stand sitting down somewhere and it taking 20 min for a waitress to come over and just ask what I would like to drink. Every restaurants service should mirror Cafe on the Ovals. I have to say, the western omelet I got from there was amazing! It came with a side of panfries and toast, and the panfries were great too. The coffee was real good too, if a bit butter for my tastes, but coffee is coffee is coffee so what will you do? Right? Any-who I would definitely recommend the Café on Oval. read more

Food was good, BUT the check was incorrect. My breakfast cost $6.75 the "handwritten bill" was $6.75 + $2.05 tax that's over 30% tax. Last I checked, NH meal tax is 9%. My buddies check the addition of his only 2 items was wrong "not to his advantage" same tax issue as well. Cafe on the Oval is my FAVORITE breakfast place in the Milford area. The service is kind (and always accommodating of little ones), the food is delicious, the prices are good, and the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious. The new location is so sunny and a great size. Help yourself to a special omelet or the special with the world's best cinnamon bun for breakfast. The coffee is great too! If you're coming in on a weekend, it might be busy, but waiting for a table doesn't typically take that long. Come in early on a weekday and you'll be surrounded by regulars. My experience with Cafe on the Oval has not been good; and they were good--once; so it's with a heavy heart that I share my bad experiences. The cafe moved to the corner building and I visited a few weeks after that. I got to see the man who made my eggs because when I found a black hair in them I asked for something else. I expected to be comped the meal (a hair in food is about the worst thing that can happen to a diner, short of finding a cockroach or fingernail in one's meal). But the black haired man only came out, stood by the counter, and just glared at me, arms folded. No apologies from him or waitress. A year later a friend wanted to go for breakfast. Against my better instincts I went. Our waitress was so rude, you would have thought we were interrupting her during a complicated surgical procedure or something! But she really just wanted to get back to her conversation with her coworker at the counter. To her, we weren't paying customers, but inconveniences. We were treated to pen-tapping, rolled eyes, and gum chewing, and even a lovely shout over our heads as she called to one of the other waitresses. They may have improved in the time since, but after two bad experiences, I'm not willing to chance it, and haven't been back since. read more

My husband & I finally tried Cafe on the Oval this morning. What a disappointment!! The menu choices were very basic & uninspired. Our Blueberry pancakes & French toast were tasteless, so much so that we left them on the plate uneaten - not worth wasting the calories. Though our waitress was back to our table several times to replenish things - salt, pepper, sugar, syrup, she never engaged or asked how our meal was, OR replenished our coffee. Another waitress noticed my husband's untouched french toast pushed to the side and asked what's up. She immediately removed the plate and offered him something else, which arrived fairly quickly. The scrambled eggs were ok, but he chose them because you can't go too far wrong with eggs. Although he'd said no homefries, they came anyway and were also tasteless. My veggie omelette was enjoyable and filled with veggies - again, how far wrong can you go with eggs. Being a diabetic, I keep an eye on carbs, so I asked to replace the potatoes & toast with fruit, which I regularly do when I go out for breakfast - usually for free, or occasionally for a small (~ $1) up charge. I was told certainly, but it'd be $3.99 for a cup of strawberries. As I can get a QUART of strawberries for $3.99, or LESS, I passed on the fruit. In summary, poor service, poor choices, tasteless food (chefs need to be introduced to seasonings!!)... Go across the street to Riverhouse Cafe, you'll thank me! read more
