Food is very delicious!! Some of my favorites include the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and the chicken sandwich/ sandwich au poulet. The strawberry lemonade was perfectly sweetened and the nojito is my dad's favorite! I always recommend this place whether it's to drop by for a quick eat since they have sooo many cheap breakfast option between $7.99-$11.99 or for a nice dinner with a loved one. I had the pleasure of experiencing Café Paris with a friend who loves Paris. It was a delightful dinner after a long day of looking at dance costumes. We shared the cheese plate she had a croque monsieur and I had a sandwich with chicken, roasted peppers,mushrooms and mozzarella. Adding to the chorus of reviews complaining about the mandatory tip. In my case, it was hand written on the bill by my server. The explanation was that they used to add it for large parties, but recently enacted it for all customers. (check was less than $50, party of two) 18% is below my usual tip of 20 - 25%, and as a yearslong regular with the same server, I gotta think she knew that. I really wish tipping wasn't a thing at all, to be honest. I'd be happy to pay 20% more for food to know that the staff are well cared for. If you've ever worked in a restaurant you know servers (and bussers, sous chefs, any restaurant employees really) often get cheated. And it's not just customers but sometimes management skims tips, particularly when you put it on your card and the server has no choice but to disclose the amount in the transaction. But I digress. As long as we have to tip, the amount is up to the customer. Here's an idea: post a notice that you're a tip-free establishment. Pay your employees a fair wage, jack up the pricing to cover the cost and notify customers NOT to tip. Tell us that you treat your employees with dignity and you expect the same from the customers. I would go back to your restaurant in a heartbeat, and I don't think I'm alone in this. In fact, I'm scaling back my restaurant dining because I really don't like making anyone feel like they have to kiss my ass for a few bucks. It's gross. read more

I really would have liked to give Café Paris a higher rating because my server was excellent, and he went above and beyond to please the customers. The reason why I can't is because I ordered the crepe filled with chocolate mousse with chocolate ice cream, and the chocolate ice cream was freezer burn. It had a bunch of ice chips in it so I was quite displeased with that. The crepe itself I didn't find good at all. It was too tough. I recommend the owner goes to La Crepe in East Brunswick and see how a French crepe is suppose to be made very delicate. The mousse it was stuffed with was very good though. I also didn't care for the much for their dessert crepe menu . I like peanut butter, s'mores, or brownie crepes. I also ordered a brownie while I was there, and that was good. I wouldn't order a crepe here again unless they change the recipe to the batter they are using to make the crepe, and get better options for their fillings. I would however come again, and try their homemade cookies or cakes they have since I did enjoy the brownie. Very quaint brunch spot in Central NJ that serves some of the best crepes I have ever had (I ordered their Nutella & bananas crepe a la mode). Their ice cream is homemade (although I must confess I didn't find anything particularly special about the homemade flavor from the Turkey Hill/Haagen Daaz I buy). Prices are right and portions are well-sized. I also sampled their veggie burger (surprisingly good). Their spinach quiche was also delicious, albeit a tad undercooked. Would have been even better in my opinion if it had spent another minute over the fire. Will be perfect in the summertime because they set up chairs and tables outdoors. A really authentic French restaurant! Feels like Paris when you walk in. My waitress, Clara, who I think is the owner, is from France. She was very helpful with assisting me with my choice of galette. I ordered a turkey, tomato, and brie galette while my fiance ordered a spinach, salmon, and cheese galette. Both were very good! You can choose a side, chips, fruit, or salad or for $1 more, you can add fries. The fries were perfectly crispy. The decor is very cute and Parisian. There are paintings on the wall and murals painted right on all over the restaurant. They play French accordion music which added to the feel of the environment. Coffee was good as well. The cafe is small, although busy we were seated right away. My only criticism is that the menu is VERY extensive. Sometimes that can be a bit overwhelming when there are so many choices to go through on your first visit. Free slice of cake offer for yelp check in was a plus! We chose the tiramisu though there were several choices ranging from Apple pie, to chocolate, to almond cake and more. Very happy with our experience I'll definitely be back. read more

Absolutely shocking customer service. Thanks to Clara who apparently was the "owner" for the horrible experience. Clara's initial approach was very condescending. She snapped at me when it took me a few seconds longer to decide on my order. Also shaming my father in-law by exclaiming that the smoked salmon is already salty. Being that we're an easygoing family that avoids awkward arguments, we chose to ignore her offensive behavior though she made it very evident. When she returned with our orders mixed up and had the audacity to be annoyed with us, that's when we had to speak up and defend ourselves. Customer service experience should be a priority in any business. People will always remember the way you make them feel. In this case, Clara turned our otherwise positive celebratory birthday brunch into a negative emotional experience. Shame on her. read more

I always visit Metuchen eateries because I love to support the local businesses. Someone told me that the decor inside were very chic so I figured my wife would enjoy that. This was actually the first time we've been to this place and what a big mistake that was. First off, I felt unwelcome right away when my wife and I walked in but I brushed it off since I always try to give the place a chance. I had their special to try, homemade fried chicken and waffles. I was expecting a fried chicken but instead was served chicken patties. The worst part is it's not even real chicken but tasted like those cheap imitation chicken patties that people buy frozen. Honestly, I had better McDonald's McNuggets. My wife had the clam soup and croissant. I asked her if she likes it and said that it's ok. I think she was just being polite since I can see it on her face. She did enjoy the cappuccino. Anyway, bad food/service or not, I'm always a big tipper, since my daughters worked as servers throughout their college. When the bill came, I started itemizing since I can't figure out how my calculation and the bill doesn't match. It turned out they added a mandatory tip to the bill. Is that even a thing? A worker in the Great Clips store across the street once told me this restaurant has been around Metuchen for a long time while others have come and gone. The worst experience at any restaurants for a long time, I wish I could rate it zero or negative. 90% of food and drink items we ordered tasted so bad and bland, and there was literally no services except basic cold communications. We had 5 adults and 1 baby, the bill came with automatically added 20% tips calculated by hand, and on top of that it says an additional 4% fee will be charged if paying by cards. We were not happy with it but decided to pay by cash, but while we were leaving the waitress came to stop us and said we were $2 short for the cash payment. We pointed out their calculation was inaccurate as they added 20% tip on food and beverage after tax, AND we didn't feel their food and services deserved a mandatory 20% tip. She rudely pushed back saying 20% tip is clearly stated on menu and if we could not pay the additional $2 they would call police. My friend said ok go ahead call police, while we were waiting my friend saw three policemen passing by so we directly invited the police in to sort out the situation. After explaining the whole ridiculous farce, one police says if the restaurant demands 20% mandatory tip then we will have to fully pay it. I asked if this is a local Metuchen, NJ thing, to which the police answered 'no this is the entire country thing'. I was initially shocked about the response as my friend and I are Asians and apparently they might take us as some foreign visitors but we live in nyc and we know that's not the damn truth about tipping. But anyways I said let's take a step back even if for 20% tip, their manually calculated amount was wrong, as they added 20% AFTER tax plus their calculated tax was higher than the local 6.625%. The police asked the waitress to recalculate to which she refused and said everything was done by computer and asked us to pay the rest $2 plus 4% credit card fee if we don't have cash left. We refused and insisted they doing better math, it was not about the $2, it was about their attitude, stupidity, disgusting manner and potential discrimination. At the end the police did calculation and said it might be $1 short for cash; they also needed better math teachers as they should give us some money back if calculated with correct local retail tax and before-tax 20% tip, even though they deserve zero tip at all! At this point another friend of mine felt it was not worth of our time and found a few coins for them, we finally left the hell. Save yourself some energy and trouble by avoiding this place, did I mention their food sucks? Good luck in Metuchen! read more

Wish I can give it zero!! After stumbling on this place online we decided to visit on a Sunday for brunch. We waited outside, a fair amount of about 10 minutes for a table inside. Seems the original waitress forgot us outside and a second waitress sat us. (No biggie, seemed sort of busy) we were sat and given two menus. While inside, the restaurant appeared busy but not super busy. They had maybe two or three tables open and about 3 waitresses floating from table to table. We waited about 25 minutes without even being acknowledged past the initial greeting. The waitress numerous times came to two tables to our right to serve and collect payment. Not once did she or anyone of the others came to us. After about 35 minutes or so both tables to our right empty and after a quick turnaround new customers come in. The waitresses brought them water and menus and yet, we were still waiting to be acknowledged. My fiancé then asks the waitress if she can have a glass of water since they didn't even serve us that. She gets her water, but it's a glass of warm tap water. At this point I had enough and we got up and left. I understand these times are making us subject to longer waits etc. However not once were we greeted or even served a simple glass of water. And for them to immediately serve the two new tables while we waited more than half an hour is completely unacceptable. Couldn't tell you what the food was like, but subsequent reading some of the reviews I'm glad we left. For a business that is dependent on customers they sure do a crap job at gaining new ones. A super cute cafe on Main Street with beautiful murals on the wall but lackluster service. I've been here a couple of times and never once have I had decent service but I do think it's really due to the fact they're understaffed. Came in most recently on a Sunday during the craft fair and only had two people working the floor but a full restaurant with more people standing and waiting to sit. You'd think they'd have more people working when the whole town of Metuchen in on Main Street for the fair but for some reason - nope. The food is very good but unfortunately the service is so snippy and diner like (order and go), I can't give them more stars. I arrived on a Friday right at 10am when they opened in hopes of getting some great photos of the interior. The murals on the walls are all of streets in Paris with an Eiffel Tower here and there! It was nice that they had wifi and I had the ability to work, while enjoying my breakfast. Everything is locally sourced from the markets around town. The simple decor gives it a relaxing atmosphere. It is a great place to enjoy a quiet Saturday brunch. Creperies are few and far between in Central NJ. This makes Cafe Paris very unique. I held off reviewing Cafe Paris Metuchen while I tried to reach a senior manager or owner to alert them to my experience. After multiple tries to no avail (I was told the owner had retired to France. The manager in the Cranford location never seemed to be available and no one would take a message; the apparent manager in Metuchen was part of the problem. We arrived at 8 PM; the restaurant is open (which generally means will seat people) until 9 PM. If they were not going to be able to serve a full meal, then they should have turned us away. We ordered as soon as the waiter came to us. My husband ordered boeuf bourguinion and I ordered the canard a l'orange. His meal came and I received a checken dinner. It was blamed on the waiter (writing down the next item on the menu - even after we had a conversation about the duck). It was taken back and eventually the duck came out. The bourguinion was very tasty (although it was not the most attractive presentation I have ever seen); the duck was good (although not crispy skin). We ate as fast as we could as there were very few patrons left. A we were finishing the entree, the waiter brought our check. We asked about coffee and dessert. We were told the kitchen was closed, however they could give it to us to go. (The waiter also offered to provide a free dessert the next time we went to the Cranford location, where he apparently normally works - not helpful at that point in time). First, if the kitchen was closed, but you could still give us dessert to go, then they should have been able to give it to us there. Second, sweet crepes and ice cream does not travel well. Third, if you are going to seat me, then prepare to provide a complete meal, especially when you can't get the order right. This was a first time visit and a last time visit all in one. read more

After dinner, my friends and I decided to stop by here for some dessert. Being closer to closing time, there weren't many patron and it was a peaceful quiet evening. The atmosphere is pleasant, well-lit and has a feeling as if one is in a cafe in Europe, not non NJ. The menu is extensive from appetizers of soups and salads to entrees encompassing some deliciousness. The dessert menu was appealing and being a crepe fan, I looked for the crepe options. Personally, I am not a Nutella fan, hence I opted for the Crepe A La Fraise, which was a crepe filled with fresh strawberries, homemade berry sauce and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was a good, but I felt the crepe was a bit overcooked and had a rubbery texture. Also, we tried the homemade creme brûlée, which was good. Overall, a clean creperie/dessert or brunch option.
