I had my hesitations about coming here but I'm certainly glad I did! For a Russian restaurant, Kabaret is very spacious and isn't your typical tightly-packed-table-with-no-room-to-breathe kind of place. It's not big, but the ratio of dining space to dancing space is perfect for its size. I was also surprised at how good the food was! Though I do think they had too many appetizer salads (it felt like shredded carrot/lettuce/mayo overload) and the meat entrees didn't arrive until much later, almost everything tasted very good. I really enjoyed the potatoes (though I wish they were served with the meat and not as an appetizer), seared tuna, blini with caviar and sour cream, duck, and the shellfish with pasta entree (I was too full at that point to try the kebabs and stew). Now for the music! They had both singers and a DJ. One of the singers, to my surprise, was...to be PC, not of Russian decent and very, um, soulful. He was incredible and all of us would get SO excited when he'd do a song. They played a little bit of Russian music, a lot of Spanish music, and then when all the "older" people started heading out and what was left was a bunch of 20somethings, the DJ played house music to induce mass amounts of fist pumping on the dance floor. I mean, this is Jersey after all :)

Honestly this was quite an awesome experience! We had a table full of 25 people and everyone enjoyed their time. The servers were always attentive and polite. Although the place seems a bit outdated, you still got a feel for the culture not only through the food but the atmosphere itself. Not much vegan options (perhaps if you ask ahead? But I ended up coming late so I didn't get a chance to do so) it is BYOB but there is a liquor store right next door! The life music was PHENOMENAL!!! Probably the biggest highlight of my day.

You can sit at tables or the large bar, we chose the former. The service was very good, accommodating and friendly. The food was nicely executed. My lamb shank was tender and tasty. I sampled the steak and thought it was nicely cooked, loaded with flavor and also very tender. The brie was tasty, and didn't seem to heavy, which was surprising as it was deep fried. My favorite way to experience Pascal is to sit at the bar get a couple cocktails (The Jackal is a staple), the Madame Smith Burger (my wife gets the Mr Smith) the fries are amazing, and maybe the escargot and just enjoy. It's up there with some of the most perfect nights out in Asbury you can have. Hope this 5 star review balance out a ridiculous 1 star review. - YH

Lovely hostess, great round bar seating with huge windows for people watching, and a genuinely charming and attentive bartender (Mike). We started with oysters from Newfoundland and cheese off the happy hour menu -- both great. My mom loved her lavender French 75 (a drink special), and my white wine was perfect (the name escapes me at the moment). The garlic soup deserves awards. I first had it two summers ago and still think about it -- I made my mom try it and she immediately understood my rave reviews. For entrées, her burger was cooked perfectly medium-rare, and my fish & chips absolutely hit the spot. Both came with generous portions of house-made fries and an unexpectedly addictive house honey-mustard. We had enough fries for leftovers, and I even asked for extra mustard to take home. Food, service, atmosphere, lighting, noise level -- all dialed in. A 10/10 experience!

Let's be honest--I come here for one reason: the soufflés. They are my kryptonite. Sweet or savory, they never disappoint. I've had the chocolate (rich, decadent, flawless), though I'm still chasing my ultimate favorite--the elusive Grand Marnier soufflé. One day... Beyond that: * Mussels + champagne = always a win * Service is warm and welcoming * Prices feel fair for the quality and experience This place has become part of my ritual when I'm in the area. I'll fly into Newark Liberty International Airport, hop on the Amtrak Acela, get off in Princeton, head straight here, and yes--plan my trip around a soufflé. No regrets. The location is perfect--right in the heart of Princeton, which is one of those charming, walkable towns with tree-lined streets and that classic, almost European feel. There's garage parking nearby, but honestly, once you're there, you won't need your car. Perfect for: * Date night * Dessert and champagne with friends * Solo bar seating (highly recommend) Bottom line: Elegant, cozy, and worth going out of your way for--especially if you love a proper soufflé. We made our reservation the night before and were off. Entering, you immediately notice only about half a dozen tables in the same room the food is prepared. It's a nice setting that is definitely unique. We started with a tomato bisque. It was creamy, smooth, and a great hot soup to start off a chilly winter evening. My main course was the Duck Frites. A generous helping of fries, with a smaller helping of duck strips. The amount of duck was a little disappointing, but it had a good flavor and a touch chewy. It came with an unusual banyuls aioli sauce on the side, that I quite liked. We finished the evening with a crepe cake that was quite large. I would definitely recommend splitting it, but I found it to be lovely sweet way to end the evening. The crepe was probably about ten layers and soft enough to cut through with a spoon. It came served with a raspberry coulis and powdered sugar. The ends were fired to conclude the dish with a light crunch. All and all, I enjoyed my meal at the Little Hen.
