As of January 2019, I am updating my review. Decided to have New Year's eve dinner at Cafe Red. While the portion size is very small for the money, the food quality is still good. That said, the staff, including the manager, could not have been anymore unfriendly, non-attentive, RUDE, and seemingly unhappy to be there. Considering the quaint atmosphere, there should definitely be more of a "happy" and "family" type of a feel... especially if you choose to dine in an establishment on a holiday like New Year's Eve. It's disappointing because Cafe Red is a place I really enjoyed going to. Been there many times in the past several years, knowing that "service" was never their forte. Clearly, it has sunk to a level that is not worth the prices they charge, and makes the good food an afterthought. read more

I came here for my birthday. (Lunchtime) I was blown away.. even though I've been here before. It's a small, bistro-style restaurant that delivers big on taste. My girlfriend and I ordered our drinks, red wine and Prosecco, and an appetizer- bacon wrapped scallops on a bed of spinach with some amazing aioli drizzled on it. For our entrees, she had the short rib.. and oooo boy, was it tender. Delicious. I had the Grass Fed Shell Steak with Gorgonzola-peppercorn sauce and some amazing tiny French fries that had a hint of rosemary. We were extremely happy with this meal. Even though they don't typically serve fresh crusty bread during lunch, the waitress brought us some, happily. For desert- handmade Napoleon with fresh fruit. This isn't your typical heavy, sugary thick bakery Napoleon. It floats on air! It's light, it's crispy, it's got layers of delicious whipped cream and fruit. I loved it. My girlfriend had the Pistachio Brownie with ice cream. She loved that as well. Overall, we were completely satisfied. This restaurant is a gift to the people of Kings Park- don't pass this opportunity. This place could compete in NYC in style and flavor, easily. read more

Excellent service and food. Make reservations in advance. Ask for the garlic parmesan calamari. I am changing my review to one star for the exceptionally RUDE service by not one but three employees. The place was not even crowded yet they rushed us out even though we were planning on ordering more drinks. If they did not want us to sit at a small table they could have told us to sit at the bar. We were not given the option. Thats their fault not ours. Bad customer service. We left and just went down the street. Will not be back again. read more

I love this place for brunch on a Sunday or for dinner. Always delicious food and the best cocktails (try the Flirtini that is a light vodka cocktail topped with prosecco)! I've had the crab cakes Benedict and love that is is "deconstructed" so you can add as much of the crab to the egg/muffin as you like. What a wonderful little gem in quiet Kings Park! Just got back from an excellent meal on a quiet Monday night that took me by surprise, honestly. Sapsuckers in Huntington, one of their sister restaurants is one of my favorites so when we realized Cafe Red was associated, we had to try it. The place is small, but that just adds to a more intimate feel. The service was very attentive but then again the place was almost empty. I'd be curious to see how they handle a packed house, as well as noise level. I'm not a wine connoisseur but I enjoyed a nice Cab with dinner and could see they had a nice sized wine list. Now onto the food... They have a great Price Fixed menu Sunday thru Thursday nights that had a good variety of choices. I went with the buffalo mozzarella salad to start which turned out to be a great choice. The cheese was cold and pillowy soft with a yummy balsamic glaze over ripe tomatoes. Next up was the Tilapia Oreganato with jasmine rice and vegetables. Another solid choice! The lemon butter sauce was excellent. My friend had the shell steak with an arugula salad. The steak was so good, I kept stealing pieces off his plate! We both ended our meals with a coconut tiramisu and a trio of gelatos and two rich coffees. All delicious! Last Friday was my first experience with Cafe Red or any of it's sister restaurants. Sapsucker's is on my list to try, and I've passed by Red many a time while in Huntington. I have to say, I was pretty impressed. The inside is cool - all open, wood floors, big chalkboard in the back advertising the specials of the evening. I ended up going with the sesame crusted salmon which was served with sauteed spinach and a rice pilaf scoop. The salmon was SO GOOD! What made it really was the wasabi aioli that came on the side. Wasabi = nice spice. Surely an Asian/Japanese inspired dish that was extremely successful. I'd put that wasabi aioli on anything. I usually don't touch side sauces, but if something is a funky green color, AND spicy, hey - why not. My friend got the three-course pre fixe which came with an app, a main, and a dessert. The mussels looked like mussels, but I am not a fan of things in shells. I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't want to eat the poor thing out of it's home that it was cooked in. Quick! Somebody call PETA! He said they were good, as was the steak he ordered but I didn't try it. And then came the bread pudding. Well, if you know me - you know I clearly had to try the dessert. And it was pretty good. I'm a fan of bread pudding in general - probably not as fattening as some desserts but certainly sweet and yummy. The downside of this place? It's a bit pricey. Expect to spend with tax and tip for two (if you both have a drink) about a Benjamin. Although my friend had two beers, and I had one glass of fantastically delicious Riesling. Just FYI. Could I afford to dine here weekly? Nope. But, as a special occasion would I come back? Sure. I'd just be curious to try the other related restaurants first. Did I pay this time? Nope! Thank you birthdays, for free food and wine from friends! If y'all missed it last week, I'd still take an invite out to Sapsuckers. Hehehe - just kiddin', Yelpers. Mrs feelgood and I agreed to eatout every night on our staycation. The deal is we cannot eat where we have already. Tonight we are at Cafe Red in Kings Park. We have been trying fir a while to get in here but it is always too crowded. I can now see why. I started out with a lobster napoleon, homemade duck ravioli- and peach blueberry cobbler. Dined last night with my husband. We split the tasty Harvest salad, a great start to our meal. For the main course, he had the shrimp scampi and I had the paella. The paella contained succulent seafood in a savory sauce. I was so pleased that the flavor shined and it wasn't laced with heavy oils. My husband enjoyed the scampi and said that the shrimp were perfectly cooked. We noticed a couple, at a neighboring table, ordered the Napoleon. I couldn't resist and it was as light and satisfying as I had hoped. The berries and fruit were fresh, the whipped cream sweetened just right, and the puff pastry light and crispy with a drizzle of what looked like a jam reduction. Our anxious young waiter appeared overly eager to tell us all about the drink specialties. He actually told us about them twice; the second time we listened to him once again as if the information was new to us. Perhaps he was new at the job. He seemed to be a bit detached and not really "in-the-moment". I would have expected a more professional waiter but he got the job done. We will definitely be returning here. I'm a Nino restaurant fan. Red and Osteria da Nino in Huntington are very good and Cafe Red in Kings Park did not disappoint. I expected good things and got just that. It's like a smaller version of Red but in Kings Park. We never go to Kings Park to eat but we were looking for alternatives to our typical Huntington restaurant selections. Landing at table was the Veal Saltimbocca, Hunters Chicken (very large portion, probably good for two), Sardinian Fish Soup, Calamari, and Blackened Tilapia. Great crusty bread as well. Kings Park does not have the ambiance or choices that Huntington offers so when going here have coffee and dessert as well. Coffee was a good strong roast and the deserts were well done, Bread pudding, Berry Napoleon, and of course Italian-style cheesecake. Reasonable prices for the quality you are getting. Decor and lighting was very comfortable . Service was very good, attentive, timely. Good choice! read more

Love this place. Anything you order there is very good. We have had lunch and breakfasts there. The shrimp tacos and the cubano sandwich is really good. Plenty of seating and parking. Had brunch on 3/7 , we took the kids with us for the first time . Awesome meal , wife and I had omelettes , kids had pancakes and eggs which they shared . A delight, even during this ridiculous pandemic. I met a girlfriend for lunch. We took a seat outside and were seated promptly. Our server was lovely, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The Kings Park Renaissance continues. I'm tellin ya, this is gonna be THE place to be on Long Island in the years to come. I was happy to see Cafe Red open, as I am a fan of the Huntington locale, although they are doing something a little different here in Kings Park. Definitely focusing less on seafood here and going more eclectic. They have renovated the inside of what used to be Ciro's, although I never went to Ciro's I can tell that this was a complete top to bottom redo. The inside is nice and inviting. Every table was packed when I arrived and packed when I left. It's good to see a nice place so busy. I always love a BYOW establishment. Thank you cafe red for letting me enjoy a phenomenal store-bought $20 bottle as opposed to drinking a mediocre wine-list $40 bottle! We indulged at Cafe Red with 3 people eating 3-courses each. I tried the Mozzerella Capresi, which was excellent, the peppers were sauteed just right, the mozzarella was fresh and tasty and the tomatoes were perfectly ripened. I also sampled the calamari, which was lightly breaded, fried just right, and served with a tasty marinara sauce. The eggplant parmigiana was perhaps the best app, but the person who ordered it gave up not much more than a bite or two to me... rightfully so, my mom orders well. For an entrée, I had the Osso Bucco. It was excellent. It was super tender, fall-off-the bone, flavorful and filling. The mashed potatoes served with it were excellent. Kind of begged for a vegetable side, though, although I am a meat and potatoes kinda guy, greenery was missed! My mom had the Branzini, which I thought was okay. That's a fishy fish! She seemed to like it. My pops also seemed satisfied with his salmon. I tried it and found it to be pretty standard, nothing spectacular. Mom may have won with the eggplant parm but I think my osso bucco was the number 1 entrée. We all had dessert. My mom was not too big on the flourless chocolate cake, although I liked it very much. I had the cannoli, which was great - they give you three little cannoli with some fruit atop. Very delicious! My dad got dessert but I can't remember what he ordered, so it must not have been that good. I'm gonna drop 4 stars on Cafe Red, as it's a little shy of 5 as they work out some minor kinks. Wow, this place has gone down hill fast. My fiance and I went there for his 30th birthday dinner (during restaurant week) and not only was the service poor, the food was horrible. Our waitress was cold and never smiled once. She just threw our menus on the table (after we had been waiting over 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us) and said "it's restaurant week." and walked away. When our food came out I was pouring a glass of wine and the food runner shoved the wine glass with my plate so he could put the food down. I would have moved the glass if he gave me a nanosecond to finish pouring, but apparently that would have been too long of a wait for him. My ravioli was, in a word, putrid. I barely ate it and felt sick by the end of the meal. I won't be back. read more

This place is overrated. The designs are great, the waiters and employees are fantastic but the food is mediocre at best. The quality of the food is slightly below average diner food but presented as an 8 or 9 out of 10. For example, small details jump out: The fries are soggy when they come out but have copious amounts of salt and pepper and supermarket dried basil sprinkles. They have fancy ingredients like filet mignon but the chef has nowhere near the skills to properly prepare it. The price is slightly higher than what I would have expected for food of this quality and I would give this place 2 stars if it wasn't for the redeeming factors that have nothing to do with the food. read more

I know I'm picky but hey...when you're paying for something you have a rite to be. 2 simple words about Cafe Red...NOT GOOD. And it wasn't just me. All 4 at our table hated our meal and felt it was more akin to a diner than a restaurant that charges $26 for an entree. Same for the wait staff. Yes, they were very nice but once again they were more suited to a diner atmosphere than what's supposed to be a high end restaurant. Let's get to some details. All 4 apps at our table were ok...not great but not bad. Mussels were a bit tasteless but had potential. Scallop salad was fine but the chef (or rather "the guy cooking the food" because we were told when we were seated that the chef had already left for the night) had no clue how to sear a scallop. The other dishes were basic salads and you really can't screw that up too badly although mine was supposed to have bacon and I believe they forgot about that ingredient. It all goes down hill from there. Entrees were awful. Veal Saltimbocca was a very weak attempt and bordered on inedible. Venison risotto was a gooey wallpaper paste that had no flavor whatsover and was an insult to risotto everywhere. Chicken Capricciosa once again was tasteless but probably the best dish at the table. The blackened Tilapia was most definitely the biggest ripoff on the menu...but that's our fault for ordering it in the first place. $22 for Tilapia? Really? This is the same cheap fish found for $2.99/lb at your local store. Again, not the restaurant's fault. We're just idiots for ordering it. Well at this point we had enough and didn't even venture into desserts. We certainly will not return and it's a shame because we've enjoyed 2 of their other restaurants in the past. PS. Take note to the dishes that other reviewers liked...osso bucco and braised short ribs. These are what I call "phone it in" dishes because they are soooooo simple and easy to make well. We took our daughter here for a quiet birthday brunch. The waiter was doing side work so we waited at least 5 min before receiving menus. When other tables sat, he still acknowledged them before us. I'm wondering if he was stereo typing us as my husband does have long hair and tattoos. (Little do people realize we are extremely successful) Regardless they did make fluffy pancakes for our daughter. My spinach and goat cheese omelette was over cooked a bit and under seasoned but still decent. Overall I'd say for brunch it's mediocre food and poor service as we patiently waited for our check while he basically ignored us for a bit. We live 5 minutes from here and have never gone because it always seems alittle to fancy for us and Relish across the street is so good. Well today on a whim for date night we decided to go. We sat outside which is good for covid but ruins the ambience alittle. We got there early around 530 and had the place to ourselves for awhile. The staff was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was divine. I got the chicken franchaise which was so good. My husband got the raviolis which were delicious but not worth the price. We also got mussles to share which were okay. They didn't come with bread and getting bread for the table was a bit lacking although delicious. We passed on dessert but the options looked great. It is definitely a nice restaurant for a special meal because it is quite pricey. But you def pay for what you get which is fresh delicious food and a professional knowledgeable staff! read more

Being a fan of Red Restaurant, Osteria da Nino, and Sapsuckers (all in Huntington) I knew I had to try Nino's most recent addition, Cafe Red. I finally had a chance to enjoy a great lunch here last week - it is usually wise to choose the specials, they are always something out of the ordinary. My partner and I shared a crab salad and the special Halibut. Both dishes arrived in good time and in large portions. The crab salad reminded us of the famous Gigi salad from Palm, with green beans and asparagus making it nice and crunchy. The Halibut was served over Nino's famous eggplant caponata which is spectacular and a must have any time it's available. Our server was friendly and considerate, waiting until my husband returned to his seat to bring out his espresso (you really must drink espresso within seconds of it being pulled). The only problem is that we aren't in King's Park very often - otherwise I highly recommend Cafe Red. read more

Was there on 8/10/2021 after playing golf at Sunken Meadow. I might have had the WORST lunch ever. My buddy and I were the only people there, which should have given me a clue. Anyway, I had a Bud Light bottle, while thinking about the menu. I wasn't that hungry, but their soup/sandwich combo looked fine. They had pea soup as the special. It tasted horrible. What a watery mess of overcooked peas in some sought of swamp water. The grilled cheese sandwich was equally horrible. How can you screw-up that. Well they did. The bacon was tough, the tomatoes were bland and falling apart, the cheddar cheese was almost non-existent and the rye bread was stale. Then they ran out of Bud Light bottles. This was my first time at RED, and most definitely not our last. We were greeted by friendly staff and seared right away! We had the option to choose indoor or outdoor. The outdoor seating was our choice. Happy to see the table approximately spaced. There was plenty of staff around and ready to help. We were greeted immediately by our server. The specialty cocktail choices were awesome. The menu was not overwhelming nd had a great variety of choices. The food was wonderful. We ate dinner here last night. What a great little spot! I ordered the Harvest Salad to start (gorgonzola, crispy bacon, toasted almonds, beets), a perfect combination of Mmmmm!!! My fiancé ordered the Cesear. Both were presented beautifully and were well sized, especially as starters. As our main course, I ordered the Hay & Straw, which is a MUST TRY if you love mushrooms as much as I do:). My tastebuds were so happy:) My fiancé ordered the duck special, which he devoured. I didn't try it. I don't eat duck. But, he said it was delicious! For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding and berry napoleon. Both were devine! The bread pudding was not as dense as I'm used to and reminded me somewhat of a flan. When the napoleon came out, it looked huge. It had us thinking we should have ordered one dessert to share. But, it was light and airy. We cleaned our plates:) I will be talking about our desserts for weeks. They offer a price fix menu Sunday-Thursday. I think it was $27.95 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. We ordered off the regular menu, which resulted in a bill 2x the price (the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5). We will definitely be back. Next time we will try to stick to the price fix. I would also recommend this as the perfect little dessert spot. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly and attentive. Parking was a little difficult. They have a small lot. It was full when we arrived. But, we found close street parking, just make sure to read the signs. The restaurant was almost full when we arrived. I would recommend making reservations. We did. All in all, we had a very nice evening and look forward to returning. If you are looking to try someplace new, Cafe Red is a solid choice! read more
