When I said, please go ask the kitchen, the person on the phone did and confirmed, "oh, it does have a little bit of walnuts in it". I don't think that the people working here understood the severity of this and they offered a refund of the meal that we threw away. Wow, how generous! I spoke to the manager and she just said sorry and that the owner would contact us. We wound up having to go to the hospital over this, after just leaving with our newborn. What a day. It's been a week and my husband has stopped by the talk to the owner but she hasn't been there and has not called, emailed, or done anything since. I don't care if she is busy, it honestly doesn't matter, this is important and I needed some reassurance that this would never happen again to anyone since someone else could have died from this but that never happened. I guess she is just too busy to care. Unfortunately, this is a local business that I used to love but I will never come back and would advise anyone with a food allergy to go somewhere else. The next day they did update the menu and the zen burger now does say "contains walnuts" but it's not reassuring that this will never happen again.

I recently visited Red Café and unfortunately had a disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. While the restaurant itself has potential, there were several unprofessional aspects that made the evening uncomfortable and unpleasant. During my visit, my companion offered a glass of wine to our server, who not only accepted it, but proceeded to sit at our table and engage in a personal conversation with him, leaving me in an awkward and excluded position. This behavior felt highly unprofessional, especially in a hospitality setting where servers are expected to maintain respectful boundaries with customers. Additionally, the choice of music was completely inappropriate for a restaurant atmosphere. The heavy metal playing throughout the night made it difficult to relax or enjoy our meal. It was loud, disruptive, and not at all fitting for a dining experience. I'm sharing this feedback with the hope that management will take these issues seriously, as no other guest should have to go through this kind of experience. A restaurant should provide a welcoming and respectful environment for everyone at the table, not just some. read more

Red Café is a warm, woodsy spot nestled just off Main Street in the heart of Kings Park. With its inviting atmosphere and a full bar, it offers a cozy setting for enjoying Italian fare and creative twists on American classics. On this Friday evening, as part of our weekly Happy Hour tour of Long Island, we chose Red Café since it was conveniently near our destination. The bar area exudes comfort, with plush seating and a welcoming vibe. Our bartender was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. For our Happy Hour, we ordered from the special menu, selecting mussels and veal meatballs. The meatballs were served as three small, flavorful balls on a plate, while the mussels came in a light, clear broth. The meatballs were quite good, tender, and tasty. Though the mussels did not meet our expectations. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Red Café. It is a charming spot perfect for relaxing with good company and good drinks, even if some dishes are not perfect. We have been a great fan of Nino's style since we met him in Huntington years ago when he first came to town. With Kelly, they are an unbeatable team. The rustic bread is to die for, early dinner at Cafe Red the other day (for 3) pleased all. The calamari was light, crisp and tender, the eggplant a high delicious, perfectly sauced appy (even better than my mother-in-law's). My grilled veg with ricotta and roasted peppers with the freshest mozzarella ever was enough for dinner. The duck leg confit and breast was sumptuous, same for veal saltimbocca. My wife and I really wanted to check this place out after hearing so many good things. We got there on a Saturday night with no reservations but were quickly given a table after having some delicious cocktails and chatting with the bartender who was very helpful about the specials for that evening. I had the Tuna, rare with some perfectly sautéed spinach on the side. My wife had the eggplant parmesan for dinner after we loved it so much as an appetizer. The staff was friendly and we loved everything down to the pear and apple cobbler for dessert. The music was a little loud for our liking but at least they played some really classic hits that we haven't heard in a long time. Highly recommend. We will be back. read more

First impressions when I sat down, clean/ decorated nice/ staff was friendly/ good selection of local beers on tap and they make a killer calamari. After that I had an amazing sesame seed crusted tuna with pulled squash and vegetables. For the price you get an amazing and cozy experience at Cafe Red. I don't live in Kings Park but I meet an older friend out there about every week who frequents the place and she says they always take great care of her even though she has every allergy haha. Highly recommend the place for anybody. read more

We made our OpenTable reservation a week in advance and noted that we'd have our 5-lb Yorkie, requesting outside seating if possible because we weren't sure where dogs were permitted. We weren't being picky and understood it was Labor Day weekend. When we arrived, the hostess explained that our reserved table was inside, so we'd need to wait for a dog-friendly table. She said we'd have priority because we had a reservation. No problem! We got drinks at the outdoor bar and didn't wait long. When another woman eventually seated us, I smiled, said hello and thanked her. She gave me what I can only describe as a dirty look. I shrugged it off, assuming she was stressed because they were busy. Our waitress was fantastic. A busser even kindly offered our dog a water bowl. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and were enjoying ourselves when the woman who seated us suddenly came over, threw water down at the foot of my fiancé's chair and said, "You know your dog is marking up our chairs!" To be completely clear: our tiny Yorkie had urinated on the leg/base of an OUTDOOR chair. He did NOT defecate anywhere. We were eating and hadn't noticed him briefly lift his leg underneath the table. We weren't upset that she told us -- we were stunned by HOW she handled it. Had she simply said, "Excuse me, your dog urinated on the chair," we would have apologized and immediately addressed it. Instead, she threw water beside my fiancé's chair while he was eating and spoke to us in an unnecessarily hostile manner. This is an outdoor dining area at a restaurant that allows dogs, and your own staff had just offered our dog water. If dogs are welcome, situations involving them should be handled professionally. If you don't want dogs there, don't allow them. Our dog is five pounds, quiet and friendly. Other guests and children were stopping by our table to pet him. Had we not already ordered dinner, we would have paid for our drinks and appetizer and left after this interaction. Unfortunately, it didn't end there. My fiancé ordered a filet with a $9 upcharge for hollandaise sauce. The sauce didn't arrive with his steak, so he began eating before it got cold. When the same woman walked by, he mentioned the missing sauce. Instead of apologizing, she said, "Yeah, that can come out later." A $9 sauce ordered for a steak should arrive WITH the steak. He told her he no longer wanted it. She said okay but apparently never communicated that, due to being too busy chatting standing around with others. A busser later brought it and we had to reject it. Our evening cost approximately $200. Expecting our complete meal to arrive together and expecting to be treated respectfully are not unreasonable expectations. I told our waitress about the interactions while making it VERY clear none of this reflected on her. That's when we learned this woman was actually the MANAGER. Our waitress was extremely apologetic, although she had nothing to apologize for. She did her job beautifully, and we made sure to tip her well in cash. That's what makes this so disappointing. This restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, decent food and phenomenal staff. The person who negatively affected our experience was the person who should have been setting the standard. Yes, customers should be responsible for their pets, and we would have immediately addressed the situation had we noticed. But these are outdoor tables and chairs exposed to birds, squirrels and other animals. The hostile reaction to a five-pound dog briefly lifting his leg was unnecessary. There is a right and wrong way to address an issue. Speak to your customers like human beings. Throwing water beside someone's chair while they're eating and speaking to them disrespectfully is unacceptable. To our waitress and the other hardworking staff: THANK YOU. You were wonderful. To the manager: your staff is phenomenal. You should consider taking some customer-service training from them.
