Coffee is great. Crepes are amazing. But this place seems to have fallen on hard times with all the newer competition in the center like Nero's. One problem: they're not on Uber Eats. As far as I can tell, anyway. All of their competitors are: Nero, Hartford Baking Co, Starbucks, Bruegger's, Dunkin'..... In 2026, I don't think this is optional. Notice how many Super Bowl ads were Uber Eats, GrubHub, and DoorDash? They must be doing pretty well if they can afford Super Bowl ads. Maybe places don't like the lower margins, but isn't that better than no sale at all? Plus it becomes an advertisement for your place. For many lazy people like myself, if you're working from home, you don't want to get up earlier to trudge out in the cold and snow. I have been a customer here for at least a dozen years. This review is way overdue. First, the variety here is amazing; dozens of drinks, great baked goods from New York like baklava and macaroons, also local ice cream and crepes. Run by two sisters (Sofia & Nune), the help is friendly and well trained, and most of all, the vibe is great; this is a great melting pot and a great place to just hang. Everyone is welcome and it's a great place to meet old friends and make new ones. Not to mention that the coffee is great; much better than any of the chains, especially the one from Seattle! A pretty decent cafe, with some fancy eats and french macaroons. Not bad, but not great. Came here on a whim, looking for coffee and looking to try some new places. The place is small but cozy, not a lot of seating and the front counter didn't allow for a lot of room to maneuver. Opted for a mexican latte and a few french macaroons along with a chocolate chip cookie. The Mexican latte had a little bit of a zip to it, they used a cinnamon flavored syrup to give it a bit of heat. Beyond the zip, not much to remember about it. The french macaroons, weirdly enough the texture was a bit dense and mealy. Kind of like the almondflour wasn't sifted. However the flavor of the fillings was very strong, which I appreciate. If you got a pistachio macaroon, it's going to hit you over the head with a pistachio flavor. The chocolate chip cookie was a well executed chocolate chip cookie. Soft, good chocolate, decent size. There wasn't anything that differed this chocolate chip cookie versus any other chocolate cookie though. I liked the flavors offered, but everything was a little off. This cafe isn't anything special or memorable, but their location is. They are right in the middle of town with outdoor seating so you can socialize and watch the people go by. My husband and I got a latte and an espresso. They were pretty subpar quality. I couldn't bring myself to finish the latte because it was so watery and the espresso was just bitter. However, their gelatos could be better. With regards to their service, it makes sense why they have so many low reviews on Google. My husband asked the lady what a "middle eastern espresso" is and she gave him major attitude. She answered "Turkish espresso," as if he was supposed to know that. Went to this cafe to pick up some macarons for my mother. This cafe is super cute and I definitely need to come back to try come more pastries and ice cream. I ordered a savory crepe and it was alright, although a little pricey and it took way longer to be completed than expected. I suppose that can be a good thing since the crepes are fresh and if I weren't busy running errands I wouldn't have been in a rush and probably would have had a better sit-down experience. My bf ordered a funky monkey smoothie and it was very filling. There are a few outdoor tables available on the patio and it is a nice spot for coffee in Blue Back Square. I've gone to Cafe Sofia many times through the years. I've mostly had their coffee, but I've also had their delicious Belgian waffles, piled with plenty of fresh fruit and whipped cream. They have a nice selection of European desserts, pastries and macaroons. They also have ice cream. Today I stopped in for their coffee, I also got a macaroon. They have a large selection of coffee flavors to chose from. Then there was a menu of their top selling flavors. I got the Toasted Marshmallow iced coffee. I couldn't decide on a macaroon, the young man suggested I get the passionfruit macaroon. The coffee was excellent as excepted. I like the Toasted Marshmallow, I can't say it tasted like marshmallow, but it was solid, with plenty of strong coffee flavor. Also their small, is a very generous size. The Passionfruit macaroon, was very fresh, but this flavor was too sweet for me. It's still a very good pick, in its golden yellow color, and the sweet creme in the center. I probably would go for a different flavor next time. Cafe Sofia is very small, they have a few spots for outdoor seating, and a few for indoor seating. Stopped in on Valentines Day for a warm cup of chai. The chai was delicious. The cafe was cozy. Only issue was the lady waiting on us was not friendly. She never welcomed us, sat playing on her phone while I was standing there ready to order, never smiled and never said "thank you" "enjoy" or "have a nice day". For me that made it a one and done. I stopped by for the first time today, for a hot cocoa. I was handed a to-go cup that was at best 1/3 full, and the rest of the cup was filled with foam, topped off by whipped cream. I came to the cafe with a friend who received a full, normal-sized serving of hot cocoa. I can only imagine that because I ordered after my friend, that I received the small amount of leftover hot cocoa remaining from her order. We walked away, and the foam and cream disguising the emptiness of my cup dissolved. My cup was mostly empty. I asked to feel my friend's cup. I knew my cup felt light from the beginning, but I just wondered if that was Cafe Sofia's practice for every drink. Well it wasn't, as my friend's cup was full. They are chewier than most macarons I've had out so it is very unique. They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from! They also have signature crepes which I would love to try one day. Café Sofia is a known staple in West Hartford and has the BEST ice cream and crepes! They actually just celebrated their 10 year anniversary last year, right on the corner of Farmington Ave and LaSalle Road! For the longest time, I had no idea they did crepes and waffles, but that's the reason this became a spot I visited every time I came home from college years ago! My personal favorite is their dulce de leche crepe but today I decided to stop for an iced latte after getting my nails done next door. I got a classic favorite of mine, iced caramel latte of course And I can guarantee you'll always love what you get from this place. We live nearby and visit often. The coffee is very good and the vibe is welcoming. In addition to coffee they offer baked goods, ice cream, crepes to order and other breakfast fare. Sofia (owner) is welcoming and makes sure that customers are served efficiently. Gets busy on weekends but the wait is usually quite reasonable. There are more than a few places for coffee in West Hartford (including Starbucks) but Sofia's is a real coffee shop. Outside seating is quite pleasant and affords a good view of the center of town. Me and my friend came and sat in the back, she went in and ordered a very overpriced drink (water and some syrup, nothing memorable) and we sat in the back to do some homework. I was carrying an EMPTY Starbucks cup, nothing in it, there was nothing left in it to drink, and due to the lack of garbage cans outside the cafe I had nowhere to put it so I simply left it on the table not thinking much of it as it was empty, had been empty, and I wasn't drinking it. A few minutes go by and the owner comes out and raises her voice at us, (mind you my friend bought a drink from there) and tells us to "Never ever bring outside drinks and just sit there" and to "never come back". I apologized profusely as it was a misunderstanding and she insisted "Never ever come back." she then went back inside without letting us explain ourselves. We packed our stuff and left, I have never had such bad customer service from this place and this review is from a loyal customer, I used to come here to study all the time, I bring my family, friends, etc. I don't think I'll ever come back simply because of that, there's better ways to handle situations and the way it was handled is simply not one of them. read more

He frequents her establishment and one night before it was closing he went in to use the restroom and she refused to let him use the bathroom even though they were still open. He pleaded to use it because his prostate was removed after prostate cancer and she refused. She was very nasty - she was cursing at him! He ended up using the bathroom on himself as she berated him for rushing to the restroom before buying something. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE. Great café right in the center. The owner is a funny lady who makes good coffee (though I think it's owned by two sisters-- could be wrong). One time, though, my date ordered a half-caff and got a full-caff, and was up all night.
