Great café right in the center. The owner is a funny lady who makes good coffee (though I think it's owned by two sisters-- could be wrong). One time, though, my date ordered a half-caff and got a full-caff, and was up all night. It happens-- just be extra careful to double-check with them when ordering and taking your drink, if that's really important to you. Crepes are great, too! Close to Donut Crazy ( just a block away) we stumbled upon a hidden gem called Cafe' Sofia. Inside feels cozy although it has a rather small space for seating(20 seats approx.) Plenty of drink options and a case of Baklava & Macaroons that look scrumptious. I immediately had to try a Pistachio Mac and I wasn't disappointed. Five stars for flavor and appearance. There is plenty of colorful Macs available that is it's hard to choose . I didn't realize til I read the reviews later on that they sold crepes. Next time I come I will review them . This place didn't wow me as much as I hoped. I had a condensed milk crepe (my fave) and a lemon brown sugar crepe. The lemon brown sugar was just too bitter. The crepes were kind of cold and I thought they'd come out with some great presentation and they didn't. My friend had a Nutella and strawberry crepe. She had a hot caramel latte with oat milk and I had an iced mocha with oat milk. Those were both very good. They had tons of flavor choices. Cute little whole in the wall ... The old blonde hair ladies are so rude! You can't be rude to customers and expect them to come back to your cafe. There are tons of other options in the area. My entire family and friends will not be supporting this cafe any longer. Only cafe I have ever been to that gets annoyed when you order food. Eye rolls, sighs, etc. If you don't want people ordering things on your menu then don't put them on the menu. My daughter had a bug in her drink when handed the drink and when we showed the old lady she was rude and said it was only small fly. Um gross! Make a new drink without arguing with your customers. Thought maybe it was just an off day, then today one of my kids walks in, order a drink and macrons. Pays for them. Sits down. Café Sofia, West Hartford, CT. We were disappointed this morning by our meal at Café Sofia in West Hartford, Ct.. After ordering savory crepes with eggs, and I had added cheese and tomato, my wife and I sat at a table in the rear. After an long time, our waitress brought out lukewarm coffee. We waited another forty to forty-five minutes and there was still no food. In the meantime, we saw our waitress leaving by the back door. This was about 11:00 am. My wife finally went in and she brought out the orders. Apparently, out two orders sat on the counter for a long period of time. They were cold and the crepes were as hard as a rock. I was afraid I would chip a tooth. The tomato was only tiny slivers of tomato skin. No slice of tomato, only inch long slivers of tomato skin. The cheese what little there was, was almost non-existent. It was horrible and I would recommend passing on this place. read more

The food is pretty good but the service not so much. On Google, it shows that they are open till 8pm and on the storefront, it says they are open till 10 pm but apparently they were closing on a Saturday at 9 pm. With these confusing timings, we as customers are unsure and our group went in because other people were going in at 8.30 pm. The person at the counter was rude in her response in saying that the kitchen was closing and later the store was closing but treated the people coming after us okay which leads me to think that this behavior seemed to be targeted at a certain group of people compared to others (read: white). We got some pastries and ice cream there but bottom line, I will not go here again because of the service and not recommend this place to others. read more

I fell in love with Café Sofia last summer but never tried anything besides the ice cream and the Italian soda. It's my usually place to stop and grab an ice cold Italian soda. They have walls and walls of options to pick from. There are at least 14 different flavors and if you want you can mix it up the owner will be more than happy to do so for you. Want more syrup? No problem! I had Lavendar this weekend and it was weird- tasted like chemicals but the scent was relaxing. They carry the Mighty Leaf Blend brand for teas and that sells for $10 a box. Tons of caffeine laced options. Not a coffee drinker so I can't comment. I always get suckered into getting a Greek pastry. They don't make it in house but get it from Yaya's Bakery in New York. The price is amazing because they sell them for $0.55 or some odd number under $1. The ambiance is amazing. Every time I'm in there I see a different mix of people. Sometimes I see couples on first dates other times I see senior citizens. As Cliff mentioned they have chairs and tables in the back as well. read more

I had a strange and disappointing experience at this place. In order to evaluate my subjective experience, to make sure I am being fair in my feedback, I wanted to first read reviews to find something that validates my bad experience or show some sort of trend. And that I found! There is a mention of a lady, owner or a blond lady in 90% of negative reviews. I do data analytics for living, so my approach here is analytical and data based. Her rudeness and lack of customer service is highlighted over and over in the reviews. I have no idea what her role is, but I got to know her in person yesterday. I am sad to say, my experience validates what other customers observed about the lady and by extension, the lack of customer service. I was on my way home with my 5 year old after his dentist visit. He asked for ice-cream, I thought of this place and decided to head there. I parked in the parking lot behind the place. I entered through the back entrance. It turned out that I broke some cardinal rule by doing that. I am still trying to find out if I endangered any lives considering Covid-19 concerns by using the back door instead of the front. To be fair, there was a sign on the door directing customers to go to the front door too. I failed to see it, my mistake, I confess. As I entered the place, I saw that Lady, standing behind the counter, holding her hips. "There is a sign, come from the front" she yelled. As I embracingly apologized, and tried to diffuse the situation by saying, sorry, I will keep that in mind for the next time, she sternly replied "I will not serve you, come through the front door." OK, assuming she had some sound reason for that, I said ok, and headed back to the exit. But that was not the end of her rage, she yelled again, "it is in English, you can read, right?" At that point, my amygdala started firing, I froze and turned to address her, but then I noticed my little son, nervously looking at me, and pulling my hand to leave. I just left and practiced yoga breathing on my drive back. I don't know how a place with such a horrific customer service can remain in business. Why does this lady fail to share common courtesy and respect customary and expected from any service provider? If she owns the place, she is in the wrong business. If she just works there, I highly encourage the owners to read the reviews and push her into the kitchen or out of the shop. read more

Unfortunately, another visit to Cafe Sofia resulted in another "Methinks not." I decided to give this little cafe another chance after the ice cream trial, this time for coffee, as a friend suggested it to try in my new endeavor to find good local coffee. On a rainy mid-week afternoon, I walked to the counter and stood behind a man who was undecided in his choice and who did not seem to be helped very much by the two servers I saw behind the counter. He stepped aside and the main server asked me what I wanted, not unpleasantly but also not with much personality or friendliness. (No smile to be seen, either.) I ordered a cappuccino, which seemed to be the favorite in other reviews, to go and waited for a few brief minutes after paying (in which my credit card was almost thrown back at me on the counter). When I got my coffee, I decided to sit for a minute to taste it. I took the top off and let it cool for a minute or so, noting that it was just a mass of foam and unlike some pictures of it on this page in which there was art on the top. I then sipped, only to be scalded. I waited a few more minutes and it was still way too hot to drink. Eventually I could taste it, and it did not seem like anything particularly special. By the time it cooled to a regular hot temperature, my tongue was too burned and I really did not want it anymore. Though the ice cream seemed better stocked than my last visit as well as more baked goods in the display case and on the counter, and despite its convenient location, I will definitely not be back to Cafe Sofia. The service has deterred me from returning to try anything else. There are a number of coffee shops in the area, ones with friendlier service, too. Cafe Sofia in no way stands out, mostly because of the service. read more

This is the cutest little cafe!! My husband and I went there for dessert and coffee for our anniversary. Our London fog tea and French press coffee were brewed to perfection. Cafe Sofia also has a wide variety of delicious macaroons to choose from. The dining area was clean and decorated with beautiful art. For a Sunday night, the place was especially busy. Cute little coffee shop in West Hartford. Was hoping to get some computer work done while I was there, although the shop is tiny and not too conducive to sitting and working for long periods of time. More of a place to just coffee and leave. Definitely a family run business which I appreciate. When ordering, they said they could make whatever flavor or combination I wanted. Opted for the amaretto latte. It was pretty good, but could tell the flooring was very artificial and sugary. Good art work on top though. Not a fan at all. I've been here three times total, and I really liked it at first. It's cozy and welcoming. The owner is very nice and the first two times I went here, the milkshakes (Shady Glen ice cream) was pretty decent. This was a few years ago. However, the last time I went here, last week, it was different. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the workers quickly glance at me and then turn around and pretend like they didn't see me. I walk over to the counter area (but off near a table so that if someone came they could go in line and order) to look at the menu because I wanted a crepe but wasn't sure about what toppings I want. The owner asked if I was ready, I told her I needed a few minutes because I wasn't sure what I wanted. She came back not even a minute later and asked again if I was ready.. Mind you I was sitting at a table next to the counter so I wouldn't be in anyone's way. I wasn't in line. A different girl came out a few minutes later and at that point, I think I'm ready to order. I just asked her the difference between the Nutella and the mocha topping and which one in her opinion tasted better. She said "different preferences." OKAY YOU DONT SAY. whatever, I ordered a mocha topping crepe and I forgot to order it stuffed with fruits but that was my fault, I didn't want to stress anyone out. I asked her if I could have water and she just pointed to the corner where there was a little thing of water. She was very short with me the whole time. Not only that, but she was rude. When I got my crepe, it looked really fantastic. However, I didn't know the mocha topping was liquid. If the girl just explained that to me or ANYTHING, I would've happily gotten Nutella. it was too sweet so I gave it to my boyfriend. The first two times I've went here, I didn't have tattoos, a piercing or colored hair. This is a great local coffee shop. The owner is always there, and makes a great espresso. They have free WiFi, which is a great bonus. They also have really good ice cream, which makes it a perfect stop after having dinner at one of the many restaurants near by. Their location (right in the heart of West Hartford center) is also great for people-watching. read more

A cute coffee shop that fits right in with the feel of WHC. We stopped in after dinner around the corner to have a hot beverage and a dessert for the ride home. I got a hot chocolate and a piece of baklava. The hot chocolate was good but the baklava just looked.....sad. It was 830pm so I understand there not being a huge selection but it just looked sad on a small, foam plate. Presentation aside, the baklava itself was sweet, nutty and flaky--everything I was hoping it would be. Tom got a mocha latte, which was nice and foamy and light. You could tell the staff was family and was really trying to be friendly and helpful, but there seemed to be quite a bit of confusion behind the counter as to what was ordered, who was making the drinks and who was ringing the orders. It was only the two of us and two girls behind us in line, so it was sorted out fairly quickly, but I'd hate to see what this place is like when it is busy! Maybe it was an off-night, who knows. Pretty good cafe shop! You can tell that it is a family run business by just how homey it feels. I like that they have a large selection of syrups. However, there arent really any signs indicating what flavors they have. I would have totally gotten something different.
