    Biscuit & wheat toast

Our favorite thing here that we had was the Belgian waffle. The food was honestly not bad at all, but the hashbrowns were way too overcooked on the bottom and were very hard. The gravy was also OK and the food could have used some more seasoning overall. The biscuit was yummy though.

This was my first visit to Cafe South in Charlotte. The restaurant looks like it was an old Bob Evan's. I liked the country vibes. I ordered the Hobo breakfast and a biscuit. The gravy and overall flavors were delicious! The hash browns were a little overcooked and there was a bit of egg shell in my eggs. I would still recommend the Hobo breakfast though simply because of the gravy. So good! Our server was really nice and always made sure we had plenty of drinks. Overall great experience.

Good crispy flavorful fried fish, okra, hush puppies, and macaroni. Satisfied my down home southern cooking fix.

Great staff. Very attentive. Everything hot and fresh! Flounder was super crispy with a crunch. Fried okra was all the way on point..smoking hot! Macaroni was a cheesy slice of goodness. A repeat customer now!

Every time I come to Charlotte I have to stop at Cafe South. This time I had breakfast. The bacon was crispy and my eggs were exactly how I ordered them. My only complaint is that my grits were a little runny. The service is always wonderful which is a part of the reason I keep coming back.

Good southern breakfast! My husband and I got the Hobo Breakfast. The gravy was amazing and the biscuit was so fluffy! However, the hash browns were sub par. They were kind of chewy, and I would not get them again. The dish also appeared to have a slice of Kraft American Cheese on it, which wasn't what I would have chosen. The chocolate chip pancakes (our friend ordered that) were delicious!! Our server was so nice! It also kinda felt like you were in a southern restaurant in the 1990s, but it was clean!

Country Style Steak, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Macaroni & Cheese

I ordered takeout from Cafe South while I was on the go. Accidentally ordered a Country 'Style' Steak instead of a Country 'Fried' Steak, but was pleasantly surprised by the bed of fresh steamed rice that my steak sat on top when I opened the container. The cube steak was perfectly cooked and the gravy complimented everything. The mash potatoes and mac n cheese filled me up to the brim and the cornbread finished me off. Placing a phone order was quick and easy, and my food was waiting for me on arrival 10 minutes later. The photo doesn't lie, I devoured this meal in the comfort of my own car, I hope no one was watching because it was gone in a minute.

The food is phenomenal, the ambiance friendly and my server Shae was AMAZING!!!! The fried green tomatoes were fried to perfection and juicy, the sweet tea was just right and the fried chicken was really great! They open at 6:30am and close by 3pm. Give them a try and tell them I sent you!

    French toast at Cafe South

Back to Cafe South after eight years and it's still a good experience. This building used to be a Bob Evans and they've changed none of the structure. I think the dentist poster by the hostess stand might be exactly the same! We arrived at 11:30 on a sunny Saturday morning and the hostess took my name and promised a 10 minute wait. My name was called about 10 minutes later and we were brought to a comfortable though low booth. Seats in good condition and the table was clean, loaded up with condiments including creamer, butter, salt and pepper, ketchup, jams and Texas Pete https://www.yelp.com/biz/tw-garner-food-company-winston-salem-2?hrid=RMwxhBuzuPzMQY06ZMG-mg. A moment later, our waitress stopped by for drink orders and we knew what we wanted. She brought coffee and kept it refilled during our meal, dropping off a check at some point. My wife got the French toast (hold the powdered sugar, please!) and enjoyed it. She said it was a little soft and could have been firmer. My ham and cheese omelet was served with toast. The hash browns also needed a bit more cooking though they were good. Drinks, two entrees and tip for $33. A bit spendy for breakfast but good service and a good meal. We enjoyed it and we'll be back. [Review 15419 overall, 923 of 2021, number 2969 in North Carolina.]

Delicious food! I was seated quickly and my meal was brought out fast and friendly. I'd like to try more things on this menu. Next time!

My girlfriend and I stopped by Salata in South End on the way out of town for a birthday Airbnb…read moretrip and thought the place looked great inside. The space is bright, clean, and feels like a nice addition to the neighborhood. The biggest downside was the parking situation which is obviously more of a South End issue than a Salata issue, but it definitely made the quick stop feel less convenient than we expected. The ordering flow was also a little awkward... after building your order you end up waiting at the register while the food is assembled, which slowed things down more than it needed to. Food-wise, my wrap ended up being really good but there wasn't an option for a plain wrap, so I went with the cucumber wrap instead of whole wheat and it actually worked out great. Overall, it was a good meal, but if I'm choosing between salad spots in Charlotte I'd probably lean toward Chopt most of the time.

I walked in and no one was inside so I was able to order right away. I had a spinach salad with lots of yummy fresh toppings and the spice chipotle lime chicken. It looked as good as it tasted. The pesto chicken looked great too, but I wanted a little heat. I love their options and that you get the cute lil croissant with the salad. I had the ginger lime vinaigrette and REALLY enjoyed this salad.

Tasty Bowl Subs N Such in Steele Creek is worth the drive. I originally discovered Tasty Bowl through a catering website when I ordered 60 bowls for my office, and the feedback from my coworkers was off the charts. After that, I knew I had to check it out in person. Today, I finally made the trip, and it was worth every mile. The location is tucked away in a corporate park, so you might think you're in the wrong spot at first. But when you see the wacky inflatable arms guy waving outside, you'll know you've arrived at Tasty Bowl. Not only did I get to try the food fresh from the source, but I also had the pleasure of meeting Raj, the owner. If you visit, you'll probably meet him too since he's always there making sure every customer is well taken care of. Raj is one of the most friendly, caring, and genuine people I've ever met. We ended up talking for over two hours about food, life, and world issues. He's the kind of guy you could've spent hours on the phone with as a kid, chatting away on a corded landline in the '90s. The story behind Tasty Bowl is just as unique as Raj himself. While on vacation in Jamaica, he hired locals to cook for him during his stay. He was so inspired by their flavors and techniques that when he returned to the U.S., he decided to transform his sandwich shop into what is now Tasty Bowl. After testing out his new creations with customers, they told him he needed to start serving these bowls full-time, and just like that, Tasty Bowl was born. Tasty Bowl specializes in hefty, flavor-packed rice and salad bowls with a variety of proteins, cheeses, toppings, and sauces. You can pick from signature bowls created by loyal customers or build your own from scratch. Tasty Bowl has many gluten-free menu items, making it a great spot for those with dietary restrictions. Whether you're looking for a bowl, salad, or protein-packed meal, there are plenty of options to choose from. If you come here enough, Raj might even name a bowl after you. I ordered the Cheezy Buffalo Bacon bowl, and it was fantastic. It came with buttered buffalo rice, grilled chicken, grilled onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms, all drizzled with hot sauce and shredded cheese. The spice level was just right for someone like me who doesn't like overly spicy foods. One important tip is to make sure to mix up your bowl before digging in so that all the shredded cheese melts and the sauces blend perfectly into the rice. There are many other signature bowls I need to try, and maybe one day I'll finally be brave enough to create my own bowl. If I do, who knows? Hopefully Raj will add it to his menu board so everyone can order it. Raj is also opening a Tasty Bowls & a vegetarian Indian spot in a ghost kitchen in South End, meaning soon you'll be able to order Tasty Bowl and Vegetarian Indian food through third-party delivery services or pick up late-night meals until 1 AM. This place is a hidden secret that everyone in Charlotte needs to know about. If you haven't been yet, make the drive to Steele Creek and see for yourself. It won't stay a secret for long.

The first thing I'll say is pay attention to the portion sizes before you order. Their rice bowls are huge. Seriously. Ask a few questions first so you know exactly what you're getting, unless you're planning on having leftovers for a day or two. I ordered a rice bowl with brown rice and added some chicken wings on the side. The bowl was packed with rice, vegetables, and the sauce I selected, and everything worked well together. The food was flavorful, filling, and honestly more than I expected. I didn't finish it in one sitting, and it took me almost two days to work through everything. The chicken wings were good too, and I liked that they had plenty of options and different combinations to choose from on the menu. They don't have specialty house-made drinks, but they do offer your standard Coke and Pepsi products. The restaurant also has plenty of seating, a few TVs, and a relaxed atmosphere. When I visited, they had soccer playing in the background, which added to the vibe. One thing that stood out was the owner. He was there helping customers, answering questions, and making recommendations. I always appreciate seeing that level of involvement. Overall, this is a solid local spot. My only advice is to make sure you understand the portion sizes before ordering because they are not small. If you're in the Charlotte area and looking for a good rice bowl, wings, or just a filling meal, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try.

We were looking for lighter fare and the menu had so many options to choose from. The lavender honey butter with the warm bread surprised me the most - the bread was fluffy and cloud like and divine with the butter. We nearly ordered another one, but it was just so decadent. The mezze platter had lots of great bites for our varied palates, loved the whipped ricotta and all the olives and fried naan. Harrisa roasted carrots were our idea of something healthy, and they may have been nutritious but tasted just as good as any main dish. Our server kindly warned us to be careful of the fresno chiles on the pork belly dish, and we appreciated that. They were quite spicy but very good with the slaw and pork belly - excellent bite of savory, crunchy, spicy and just a wee bit sweet was possible on that one. We happened to benefit from some wine specials and opted for a couple of bottles of wine at a serious discount that were excellent.
