First CT did exceptionally well accommodating to their dietary restrictions regarding dairy with hamburger preparation as well as the bun itself. Then the flavor was fantastic also and my colleague ranked it as one of the top 10 burgers they have had anywhere in the United States. Would not recommend this restaurant. The service is poor and it's clear the servers are not trained well and there is a lack of good management. The wait time is sooo long - we waited over an hour without any drink refills to get our food and it came out cold and not fresh. The salads were wilted, the soup was hardly lukewarm, and the order was messed up. We let our server know but she didn't offer to remake the messed up order or warm up the cold food. The front of the restaurant has blinding bright lights and is torn apart, not a good ambiance or welcoming environment. For the price, this place should be dialed in but the atmosphere is all wrong. Definitely not what we were expecting based on the reviews. At second glance, it appears the best reviews are older and the newer reviews are not good. I wish we had noticed that before going. It's realistically a 4 star experience, but I put down 5 stars to up the overall average from snobs who give it low ratings. I've been there 4 or 5 times and have had good food and service every time. I would personally put it in the top 5 resteraunts to take a date in Pocatello for its sitdown casual food category. Buddies Italian resteraunt, Off the rails Brewing, Sandpiper, The Grecian Key, Himalayan Flavor is SLEPT on AND REALLY good for food, and I'd recommend Tokyo Belly or Sumiso if you're into Sushi. I went to Cafe Tuscano for the first time last week. At first the ambience seemed nice enough. The crawfish bisque tasted okay but was just liquid, no chunks of anything, and the bread that came with it was very doughy and didn't seemed cooked. The food was bland, and too expensive for the small portions. It seemed like some ingredient had mold or mildew in the spaghetti sauce. Even so, it was the worst spaghetti I've ever had in my life. How can anyone screw up spaghetti? And then we got so sick from the food. My friend was blowing chunks all night. When we called the owner, he was a total punk just covering his ass. Visiting Pocatello this week and found my way to Cafe Tuscano near the hotel corridor of Center St. Interesting first impression as I entered through a convenient store.. I must say that the architecture and atmosphere once inside was pretty great. Had a healthy wine list and a full bar for the patrons looking for a cocktail. Shiraz from Australia tasted pretty nice along with my shaved prime rib sandwich. A bit of gristle within which is never enjoyable, but all & all it was a nice sandwich with a great au jus for dipping. No horseradish to speak of but quite a bit of flavor nonetheless. A fly ended up in my wine glass and they were happy to replace it with a full glass. It may seem a little odd attached to the gas station, but the experience within was pretty legit. So the best thing about Cafe Tuscano is the ambiance and the wait staff. Going in for dinner on a Friday night, my wife and I would expect nothing short of excellence. However this was sadly not the case. We have never patronized Tuscano before and were surprised with a fairly boring menu. I started with the crawfish bisque, which actually was tasty despite no actual pieces of crawfish. My wife had a dinner salad which was from a bag. The lettuce was brown on some pieces and some were wilted. Not impressed. A mere 2 minutes after our soup and salad arrived, our entrees showed up. A little soon, don't you think? Professional restaurants practice their timing between starters and entrees. I ordered the "Fettuccine Tuscano" which was described as 'Spinach and egg fettuccine, Italian sausage, bacon, in a creamy alfredo sauce.' The Italian sausage was clearly not house made. In fact, it was pre-packaged pizza topping. The sauce was extremely salty and was overseasoned with sage. My wife ordered the Penne ala Vodka. It was described as 'Penne pasta, tossed in a tomato Alfredo finished with vodka sautéed shrimp.' The sauce contained bacon, bell pepper, and lots of onion. Last I checked, vodka sauce contains none of those items. She sent it back and instead ordered the Chicken Scampi. It too was inedible due to the saltiness. Needless to say we will not be returning to cafe tuscano. How disappointing. read more

Love the atmosphere - and the location is good for the hotels. For an "Italian" place the wine list is odd. You have to do research to see what you are getting if you order the "California merlot" or "Italian cabernet" - Just provide a list of wines with the names of the winery/type/name of the wine. We ordered the cheese and bread plate from the appetizer menu- it was excellent bread with balsamic vinegar and oil with grated parmesan cheese- very odd way to serve it and kind o messy- we kind of expected slices of a couple kinds of cheeses - but the bread was excellent. Our main dishes were fine - the pork medalians were not exactly what we expected, was thinking more of a glaze than gravy, but the carrots served with it were spot on and the mashed potatoes were very good. My pizza was very tasty- it just wasn't served as hot as one would think (when you can take a bite right away without burning your mouth, it is kind of telling) - but the italian sausage was very, very good. read more

Cafe Tuscano is a nice little business situated adjacent to some other family businesses, mainly a gas station and detailing shop. Their menu is good and the service is top notch. We did not enjoy their interpretation of Tiramisu as it seemed like a cup of cream without the fingers. But, with that minor complaint Tuscano is a good place with potential. Adding outdoor dining area(s) would improve this location 100%!. They have the space they simply need to utilize it better. I would eat there again if I were in Pocatello. read more

So my brother, my best friend, and I came here to eat after an exhausting trip from Yellowstone. We were hungry and nothing is open on Sundays in Idaho. This place was cute and fancy (it is attached to a gas station after all). I don't know if I got the wrong dish, but it wasn't too good. I ordered the Fettuccine Tuscano and when my plate came it looked like reheated leftovers. The Alfredo sauce was Chunky and oily, much like when you microwave it. Stopped by for a bite for lunch but the menu is a bit on the expansive side, so I decided to just snag a cheese plate. It comes with 4 cheeses sprinkled with crostinis. It was fine and neutral and they did have a nice selection of craft brews, which I partook of. I also had a cup of the tomato and beef stew, which was excellent and regret not just getting a bowl. It's a very nice looking restaurant but it's weird in that you have to enter a mini-mart in order to get into the place - unless there was a door that we missed. I thought of getting the tiramisu but then noticed that the layers were just "mush" in a cup and decided not to sample it. Maybe one day. P.S. Expansive does not mean "expensive." read more

I eat here a couple times a month due to it being by the hotel I stay in when I travel to Pocatello. The staff is great, their wine selection delicious and the food is worth going back for time and time again. I sincerely hope to eat my way through this menu. Almost went here for brunch, but it was $20 per person ($25 with booze); which is more expensive than their dinners! It looked good, but since I don't usually stuff my face (or drink when the sun is up), I doubt it would have been worth it. Don't let the gas station exterior area fool you. It's pretty nice inside! As for their dinners, I think for the price they are really excellent. In fact, I think this is one of the best quality (not quantity) vs. price places in pocatello. I've had the Cobb Panini, Pulled Pork sandwich and the Chicken Bacon Ranch Flat bread pizza for dinner on three occasions. All were great, especially for the price. The Pulled Pork this time was my least favorite of the three, but it was certainly more food than the flat bread pizza. This places needs a rotating menu though. 3 things on the menu are appealing to me and while they are good, trying new things would be nice. Their selection of beer is really lacking. I guess I'd be happier about that if I drank wine...but I do not. We will certainly be coming back. read more

Stopped to have lunch on our way through Pocatello and was very pleasantly surprised. My husband and I got the tri tip and vegetables. I ordered the crawfish bisque and was it delicious. My girlfriend agreed. She got the tuna salad and I got the half meatball sandwich. Her's was 16 dollars and mine was 10. Not a bad price really. It's strange walking through a gas station to what looks like a fancy restaurant. My girlfriend's salad was 90 percent lettuce and only three small pieces of tuna. She had to ask for more bell peppers. My meatball sandwich was cold. It had taste but I'm almost certain it was microwaved because the bread was soft in the middle and rock hard at both ends. I don't think anything was made in house, maybe the bisque I had. I guess if I needed gas and had time for a beer I'd go there again... I give extreme credit to the waiting staff though. Strange experience! Food was pretty good though. But still walking through the Shell convenience store is off putting! The service was good and once inside you feel you walked into another world. Then when you leave you are kind of hit with the fact that this is at a service station. I like the independent little place making a go of it. I will go here again when I am visiting Pocatello. Nice to step out of "the chain" world. I have to say they did a bang up job with the atmosphere even if it wasn't attached to a service station!! Located within walking distance to several major hotels. Great TV's for sport fans.
