Can I just say, YUM. I didn't got into the tiny cafe expecting a lot but it really blew me away. I found myself wanting to go back today, in fact. A very yummy coffee selection. My sister got the dulce de leche latte- soooo good! They have a small beer selection with some local beers. They also have a local wine selection. Upon arrival we got complimentary bread (YUMMY) and some spinach fritters with a sauce. The spinach fitters were not on the menu but I wanted more!! For food, all four of us shared our items. We got a seasonal salad that had lots of veggies and butternut squash. Very yummy. My husband got a steak with potatoes. We got the pasta special. And we shared the empanadas sampler. Let me tell you the sampler was worth the $30! It was such a fun experience and it was awesome to try them all! I want to go back solely for those! The place is pricey, but you get what you pay for! Friendly people, it's spacious, the food options are fantastic, the coffees are very, very good and well blended and roasted. I. E. If you want a cappuccino, you get an actual cappuccino, not 'a regular shot with milk' like some coffee places do because people don't like actual cappuccino espresso shots. Food and service is not slow, but it's not a rushed affair either. Don't expect to dine and dash out of here in less than 40 minutes unless you're specifically getting coffee. On My first visit to this restaurant I found it enchanting with beautiful plants everywhere and a lovely outside patio. I had the vegetarian empanadas and found them delicious. Ordered a chai tea and found it very spicy and was informed they put cayenne in it. Bad idea! My second visit didn't fair so well. Ordered the Baca Bowl which was supposed to be a bowl of rice and veggies. First of all it was served on a plate and the portion of vegetables was so small and the quantity of rice so skimpy that it might have been considered an appetizer. Also service was extremely slow and when we complained about the dish being less than satisfying we were not responded to. I may not visit again. The service was friendly, but the server struggled to take our order, and ultimately there was a mistake with the food that we were served, but the mistake was corrected quickly and with no pushback once we pointed it out. I suspect our particular server may have just been new to the job. We dined on the patio for lunch and it was very pretty, quiet, and just really delightful overall. My group of three decided that we simply must order all of the classic empanadas to sample together, which ended up being the perfect amount of food for us. On average, the empanadas were good, with some being a bit lackluster and others being extremely tasty. The chimichurri was outstandingly delicious, however. Honestly, the best chimichurri anyone in my group had had. Don't skip on adding a side of it to your empanada order, as it really brings the food to a new level. Below are my thoughts on each of the empanadas we tried: Jamon y Queso - absolutely delicious, top three favorite, great smoky ham flavor Carne - absolutely delicious, top three favorite, surprisingly moist Caprese - good flavor, felt a bit like eating a pizza hot pocket, but not in a bad way Santa Fe - decent flavor, but fairly dry Verdura - pretty dry and could have used more ricotta in the filling Humita - absolutely delicious, top three favorite, creamy and flavorful Vegan - I liked the filling combo more in theory than how it was executed, it was dry and lacked flavor Onion - great flavor and "creamy" cooked onion filling Lucrecia - strong parsley flavor and reasonably moist filling A final note: we were accidentally served the gluten free version of one of the empanadas (which was fixed by the restaurant once we realized the mistake). Unless you have a gluten intolerance, I highly recommend staying away from the gf pastry. It was very very dry and lacked flavor. On the other hand, the regular pastry was flaky and delicious, so I'd go with that option if at all possible. read more
