OK - I did not have anything here. I went to buy some ground coffee and was going to get something, but, they do not sell ground coffee - only whole beans. This totally perplexed me. I asked 10 different ways and explained I was traveling and had researched them from CA and they refused to take beans out of one of their grinders and grind me one pound for my Aeropress. They then recommended I go to Whole Foods when Salt Lake Roasting was across the street a couple blocks down. Thank god my son saw them and we went there and had a wonderful experience. I even told the woman I don't buy coffee from grocery stores and she just said she was so sorry. I just don't get it. This place really does not understand how to take care of a customer. read more

We live in the Bay Area, and this place is a must visit any time we're in Utah. We order our beans from here too! They are so good. They are so passionate about what they do and they will not compromise for their coffee no matter what, and it shows in their excellent coffee. Some people find that rude, but it's the opposite, he doesn't want you to have bad coffee. This is his life's work, and he wants to represent it the best he can. I appreciate his "abruptness" and "rudeness" because it means I won't end up getting something crap because I ordered something special thinking it was going to be good and the owner knew better but compromised for the customer. Love that I can bring in my puppy! They even bring her a big bowl of iced water and a doggy treat!! Owner is also very friendly and helpful. I've had the blueberry bubble tea, mango, and peach bubble tea. All of them have been perfect, not too sweet, perfectly chewy tapioca pearls (premium grade direct from Taiwan). My only complaint is the cost, for a 12 oz tiny cup $5 is a little steep. However since I live right around the corner and the quality is good, I can imagine I will be back often. read more

I've heard of this place as the best coffee in town, but was disappointed when I visited due to the service not being the most welcoming. They were throwing shade at another place closeby, and I found that really unprofessional and uncomfortable (talking trash to your consumer will always come off... bad). I have an enormous respect and gratitude for intrepid entrepreneurs who do one thing superbly. Our preference seems to be this climate of one stop gets it all, and usually mediocre at best. Caffe Dbolla has a passion for the art of quality coffee prepared with intense precision. Starbucks who? Starbucks is the Mcdonalds to Dbollas Michelin stars. So I'm in New York chatting it up with the guys at Kaffe 1668, and I tell them I'm from Salt Lake. They said, "have you been to D'Bolla?" I tried once but they were away at a Barista competition. I'm glad I didn't post that review! It wasn't so nice. So, I decided to give them another chance and I stopped by there to experience what even baristas in NYC said was a good cup of espresso in SLC. They were right. The owners may not win national competitions for their shot pulling expertise but, they know how to brew coffee. They also roast the coffee they brew. And they can tell you more about the beans than you could ever imagine. Other reviewers have commented that it's not the raucous caffeine pitstop some people might be looking for. There are places with better atmosphere. But if you are going for the coffee, for the simple pleasure of drinking a cup of some of the best brewed coffee--espresso or vacuum pot--in Utah then you need to be at D'bolla. read more

Worst customer service. My partner and I went to Caffe D'Bolla and ordered a sandwich and bubble tea to share (a $12.00 order). After we sat down to enjoy this lite treat, the owner began to badger us, asking us what else we were going to order. We told him twice that we weren't ordering anything else, to which he told us that he has a policy that everyone must order a drink. Really? We then had to leave. I understand if we were in his business, not ordering anything, mooching off the free wi-fi. But were weren't! I felt pretty peeved about it the entire evening so I wrote a thoughtful email to the owner explaining how negative my experience was at his establishment. His response was, "We ask you for more than most coffee shops because we provide more than most coffee shops." Seriously? He could have easily regained my business had he acknowledged his superbly poor customer service; however, in his stubbornness he chose to stick by his very black and white policy. I was excited to come here. The owner was abrupt and kinda rude, had one other customer and couldn't multitask with me while he was making a simple espresso shot. Then I asked for a siphon press. I'm a bit caffeine sensitive so I asked for only like 75% of the beans to lighten the cup. Seems a win-win, as he would use less beans. He said, uh no, I only make it one way. If you want something lighter maybe try an Americano. I said I found espresso to be more bitter than a great cup of coffee, to which he replied, my espresso is never bitter. I left. Unique coffee experience in Utah. New York-like atmosphere and equally appealing variety of options. I tried the bubble milk tea (iced), almond flavor. What a nice surprise of flavor and texture. It has these gummy bear-like balls throughout that really make it... "different". My sis-in-law also tried the bubble milk tea (regular) and was thoroughly impressed. The location is great. Especially if you sit outside. The decor inside is pretty damn cool too. If you're like a lot of Utahans and like a break from the norm, this place delivers nicely. I'll be back! read more

I was excited to try out this place because I heard they serve milk tea with 'boba' (tapioca pearl). But before I even opened my mouth to order, I was told they were out of boba. Sigh. So I just ordered an Azuki (red bean) milk tea with coconut jelly instead, ~while crying out silently why do bad things happen to good people.... The drink itself is pretty good. Tasty and milky, and not too sweet. The coconut jelly is not exactly the easiest to drink with a straw compared to boba, especially when you are almost out of the drink and just sucking out the leftover jelly (you boba-drinkers know what I mean). They serve coffee too. They even have the cool coffee siphon at the counter. I was told it takes 30-40 minutes to get a cup of dripped coffee, so if you have time to spare, you can try this. Not too many tables, but it doesn't seem this place gets too busy. Pretty cool place to hang out, although due to the small area, I don't recommend you talking about your darkest secret here. I've never written a review before, but this deserved the 2 minutes it will take to write. My husband and I had been wanting to check this place out for a while now. So yesterday, we brought my 4 year old son down to the cafe, walked in and sat down and watched as the one person working was running around like crazy trying to keep up. There were only about 6 people in the cafe. He didn't really say anything to us and since we hadn't been there before I wasn't sure if I was suppose to go to him to order, or if he came to us. My husband took my son outside to run around while I waited inside to find out what I needed to do to order. In the meantime someone else came in and sat at the bar. The guy working there told me it would be at least 5-7 minutes until he could get to us. I told him that would be fine. And then he proceeded to serve the guy who came in after us. So I packed up my things and left. I think if he hadn't served the guy who clearly came in about 5 minutes after us, I might have waited. But I thought that was the worst way to handle new customers coming in and someone who seemed like a regular that the guy knew and was talking with. Super disappointed. Since my son has a disability it is no easy thing to make the effort to go anywhere. And from the raving reviews we thought this would be such a great experience. Husband and wife run joint, and they are serious about their coffee!! Sometimes I just want to tell them to shut up, that I don't care where it was grown, or what citrus after tones to expect on my palette. But, like I said, they're serious about their coffee. Their Americanos are unlike any you've ever had, and they make delicious boba tea, not to sweet, but very flavorful. The coffee is easily 6 out of 5 yelp stars. I challenge anyone to negatively criticize their intimate mastery of their beans or their brewing. And their tea is excellent, in both quality, selection, and preparation. The atmosphere is probably 3 out of 5. It's hip and stylish in an Asian-Fusion sort of way and they often place good music, but seating is not very comfy. And their hours are very limited. They close at 6pm every day and like many other Utah businesses, they're not open on sunday! But when you get a chance to go, please do. They are excellent. read more

I do not feel as though I was received well. The service made me feel inadequate. I would love to know as much about coffee as Caffe DBolla employees do, but it seems as though I would just be wasting their time. They apparently have luxurious brands of coffee beans and an amazing siphon bar, but unfortunately I don't know. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was unwanted. I love this place. I don't drink coffee, so I go there for the bubble tea and other teas. They don't have a large selection of teas, but what they do have is fantastic and potent, and they're very helpful in choosing one. I prefer their bubble tea to other places in town because they offer non-milk options in really tasty flavors. I also prefer the atmosphere here--way more low-key than other coffee houses. Parking can be difficult, but the train stops half a block away, so public transit is usually a good option. read more

Came here to get some boba tea because I had a craving for a kind I get when I go home to see my parents, but most places do not have. THEY HAVE LYCHEE BOBA TEA!! And guys, it is so good. 'Barista' was the most unwelcoming guy. He actively tried to get us to leave the establishment because he clearly did not wait to help or serve us. Walked in and the aroma of coffee filled the place and a faint sound of classical music help create a great laid back environment. I was the first customer of the day and the owner took my order and we shared an awesome story about the background of his coffee house.
