We stopped by this Saturday and waited in line looking forward to a warm, flavorful cinnamon twist. Unfortunately, what we received was a pastry that appeared underbaked and lacked the texture and flavor we expected. The location and menu are appealing, but based on our visit, the quality of the pastries was disappointing. I don't usually leave negative reviews being that I am a small business owner as well, but this experience was honestly pretty disappointing. They advertise "100% natural smoothies," which is the main reason we stopped in. We ordered a 4 berry smoothie, and what we got was basically a cup packed with ice, filled with water, and topped off with a little organic juice. It was extremely watered down and not even close to what you'd expect from a real smoothie. Normally I would say something and give them a chance to fix it, but the employee's attitude made that feel pointless. She had zero personality and seemed almost annoyed that we even ordered--like it was an inconvenience. It felt like she knew the product wasn't good and didn't care at all. Love this (roast their own beans) coffee / (baked on site) pastry shop! We ride our tandem bike here almost every Sunday morning for a coffee and cinnamon twist. Often times, the owner is there to greet us. Over heard today, he has been there for 23 years serving community. He often remembers orders from the locals, as many pull up right in front of store, pop out to grab their coffee and off they go. Others walk / bike here. Love love love this place! It's a cute little shop right down the street from my house and the drink are always good! I usually get vanilla lattes or a matcha. My favorite part is they aren't too sweet. They also sell muffins and sandwiches but my favorite is their giant chocolate chip cookie!it's about the size of a small plate and is perfectly chewy. I get one every time I stop by. The reason this got a 4 and not a 5 is because sometimes the staff is MIA throughout the times they say they are open. I think this is because they bake their goods in a separate building and have to walk back and forth. read more

Ordered one of the croissants because it sounded good as we were walking around exploring a bit. In my 42 years, I have never had a more disgusting pastry. It was either the ham and cheese or turkey and swiss or something similar. I am seeing a lot of bad reviews about the service. The service wasn't terribly bad. But the croissants! Mine was clearly several days old, was cold, and was never offered to be warmed up. I dislike posting bad reviews but this is to help you beware. Just get the coffee! read more

Love this little gem in downtown RsF. Coffee, espressos, Capps. Small thru large with fresh muffins and the yummiest pastries. This is an adorable little coffee and tea shop. The staff members were all very sweet and welcoming. The only draw back was that they do not have Wi-Fi and they offer a small amount of seating inside, but a lot more outside on the pleasant partial shaded patio. I had some time to kill so I ordered and mint herbal loose leaf tea chilled on ice. If I remember correctly, they use the Republic of Tea products. The iced tea was great. It was quite refreshing and offered a good balance between herbal and mint flavor. There is no private parking lot available so street parking will be in order. Never been in this part of Rancho Santa Fe and decided to stop here for coffee because I didn't know where else to go. I think I ordered a caffe mocha which was good but the service was cold. The cashier seemed so annoyed that i ordered something and had zero intention in having a conversation. When I went to pay, he seemed even more annoyed because I wasn't sure how to use the terminal. 4 stars for the coffee itself and 3 stars for the person making the coffee trying to cut the tension. The owner is "Top Notch" and has a passion for both the business aspect and the product. He is both a Gentleman and a businessman who cares deeply about his associates and his customers. It is refreshing to have these values within someone who exudes confidence and is not egotistical. I am impressed on all aspects of this business. The Service is excellent. The food is Great. My son and I stopped by Saturday morning during the Cars and Coffee event. The coffee and hot chocolate were both really good. My son had a huge chocolate chip cookie as well. We should learn. While walking around downtown Rancho Santa Fe we thought we should get a pastry to go. Seeing Caffe Positano we immediately thought of our horrible experience at the other location. Thinking they could never get away with that type of service here, we decided to give this location a chance. Wrong! All we wanted as an unassuming custard raisin croissant. How hard could that be? The croissants were sitting in the window, patiently waiting for some hungry person to select it. We ask for a custard raisin croissant. The incompetent person behind the counter repeated "custard raisin croissant". We paid and looked at the receipt that said "custard raisin croissant". The counter person handed us something and said "custard raisin croissant". We finally arrived at a park and unwrapped the pastry. Instead of being greeted with a moist, custard filled croissant, our senses were assaulted with a dry raisin type pastry. Maybe the plain raisin croissant. It may have been tasty the day it was baked, but that wasn't in store for us the day we bought it. It neither looked nor tasted fresh. We didn't have enough water with us to finish these pastries. In the larger scheme of things getting the wrong item isn't that big of a deal. After yet another waste of money given to this place, I guess we have finally learned our lesson. read more

Quality of coffee has gone downhill. Not sure what happened. My latte been bland. I thought it was just an off day, but came back twice more and same problem! I switched to cafe au lait but same problem. Even a caramel macchiato tasted like a bland latte. So frustrating! You would have think that a place that claims to roast its own coffee would have more robust in flavor. I stop wasting my money on coffee here. However, this place has amazing croissants!! Firstly, this is really a coffeeshop for Stepford spouses, so if you're an actual human just passing through, I don't recommend stopping in this area at all. Avoid the robots and go to Encinitas or Escondido. They hate Escondido because that's where the trash and drug dealers and rapists and poc are, so it's safer there. I come down from the PNW to visit my dad in RSF every so often, and never stop in these little communities because I don't especially enjoy being treated like a freak who's about to steal something by passive aggressive rich white people, or servers/customer service who've been sucked into thinking that those are the only people worth their time, but didn't have enough time to drive further today. Despite the cnty attitudes from the girls behind the counter, typical for a white run "I'm better than you peasants" RSF village shop, the coffee was decent and the pastries were good. If you can avoid it, just don't stop in the village at all if you're an outsider unless you're desperate and prepared to deal with the snobbery and holier than thou attitudes. BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT! I was a long time regular customer here. But I will no longer go there. I have a mental condition that can cause me issues in public when I have an episode. I got a new dog that could sense when I was about to have an exposed, even before I could feel it coming on. She would become very protective and would bark at people she saw as a potential threat. Those that she didn't see as a threat she did not react to and would let them pet her. She barked at some people a few times when I was sitting in the sidewalk in front of the shop. Because of that I was asked by the staff to not sit on the PUBLIC SIDEWALK in front of the shop. It was very demeaning! read more

We stopped here over the weekend after having brunch at The Inn. Our friends who live nearby recommended this coffee shop to us but we never had a chance to check it out until now. The coffee shop mirrors the downtown area...small, cozy and quaint. We found one very welcoming and personable worker manning the shop who took our order and made our coffee. I ordered a small iced non-fat latte and the hubby ordered a mocha. We both thought they were made perfectly! I don't add sugar to my lattes so I can really taste the espresso. It was well balanced and had a pleasant sharpness. We really enjoyed our stop here at Caffe Positano and will certainly be stopping in more often. We didn't pick up a pastry since we just ate, but we will have to try them the next time. They make them on site and they smell amazing! I was eyeing the chocolate croissant. ; ) read more
