Came here off chance, as the bakery we were looking for was not there. I'm so glad we stopped by. Their coffee cake was delish. So moist and yummy lemony. Customer service was great. They were nice at the counter. We didn't order coffee as we just had coffee beforehand. It's a charming little cafe. We will definitely return to try their coffee and breakfast items.

After changing ownership several years ago, the food wasn't the same and we stopped coming. However, I am happy to say the food is now back to amazing. I had the French Dip that was filled with tender roast beef and caramelized onions on a delicious Dutch Crunch roll. My husband had their Thyme chicken salad with big, fresh raspberries, lots of chicken and mixed with goat cheese and walnuts. Both entrees were huge and could easily be shared. The service was great, the prices reasonably, and the cozy restaurant oozes old world charm. What's not to like?

Such a cute spot to grab breakfast or lunch! The vibe is cute cottage. I walked in and they were making Christmas cookies packages. Staff was very inviting. I decided to try their quiche. I forget the name but it was the one with chicken. It was perfectly crusty and came with a side salad. I believe they also have a combo that comes with a soup. Also had an orange juice and their lemon bar, which I wish I got another to take home for later.

Cute little spot with plenty of parking nearby and a nice area to walk around in after eating. The whole time we were here on a Saturday brunch, people were coming in so it must be a popular local spot. Ordered the chicken focaccia sandwich and blueberry cheesecake. Both were not bad and the sandwich came with pesto pasta. For the price and taste, it was a bit expensive but we enjoyed our time regardless.

Love Thyme in the Ranch. Such a cute place. We usually order the full quiches from here for family gatherings. Their gluten free options are spectacular and their service is always above and beyond.

A few steps away from the Rancho Santa Fe down town area, we went here after admiring the cars at the car meet that happens here on Saturday mornings. They had indoor and outdoor seating. Walking in around 10:30am we were able to snag a table right away. We opted to sit outdoors and enjoy the pleasant weather. They have a collection of pastries and baked goods and friendly staff to help you choose. You order at the counter and take a number to your table and they bring out your food and clear your take when you're done. We got the mango cranberry coconut muffin, chocolate croissant, chicken focaccia toasted sandwich and the BLT+Avocado sandwich. These are all available in half and full sizes. Their breakfast offerings are available until 10:30am after which you get to choose from the all day offerings. Sandwiches were accompanied by a side of quinoa salad and a pickle bringing a refreshing element to the meal. The chocolate croissant was standard, and the muffin stood out for its interesting flavor combination of mango cranberry and coconut shreds. Overall, a solid brunch spot.

Very friendly and cute environment. I love love their pastries. Not too sweet. They are baked in house. Love their egg sandwiches. Everything is very delicious

We just picked up the turkey chili to go and it was not heated. We were glad we were not on a picnic. Heated it and delicious. I think the sides were too much. May save on food costs with smaller portions.

Such a cute cafe in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe. Ideal for breakfast and brunch. Good variety of sandwiches , hot and cold. Always busy but service is quick. Feels like you are sitting at home but outdoors. Loved it

First of all, they told him they only had decaf and were out of espresso, coffee beans! WHAAAT!????? (so I'm making coffee at home right now) Argh. Secondly, he got 4 pastries, and seemed to think they MAY have 'fresh' croissants in the back, but couldn't remember if they grabbed the other pastries from the display or not. Said there were about 4 or 5 workers, but they looked completely unprepared for the day. When he got home and we opened the pastry box, everything looked half baked. The croissant was more like bread - not crispy or flaky or even golden brown, and the others didn't look completely baked either. We also ordered a Quiche Lorraine plate. That was decent, but very blond (not beautifully browned as it should be). It was so strange that on such an important day they would be completely unprepared- no coffee, old baked goods and did you see my display pics? It's like they closed the shop yesterday, didn't clean anything out, didn't organize and just left it. The signs were knocked over, the trays weren't straightened and like I said, it looked like they had a huge rush at 6:30 AM and were already sold out - which is highly unlikely. Wow, did they lose their baker? Is the boss out of town and teens are running it? Who knows ... but I sure won't be back. I expect high quality French cuisine, and pastries (per the name and reputation). Don't waist your time getting the moms anything here today. Sad.

I stopped by today walked in, had no idea if i could just sit at a table, wait to be seated or if i had to order at the counter and then look for seating as some establishments have this kind if seating. There were not signs, so i just got in line to order, at the register i gave my order- no clear menus for food in site- even the lady behind me asked me, i told her im using my phone to see the online menu, once i got to the counter the individual asked "your getting your french toast to go? Or wait are you at a table already" i thought it odd, i confirmed i was eating at a table or counter just had not picked it out yet. Then thats when i noticed other people just as confused as me. I went to the counter with my number. I started to notice that people already sitting and eating were being brought their check. And their orders being taken. So then it clicked- counter is for to go, if you dine in just sit at a table or counter and wait for someone to notice to take your order. Over all the food is good the macchiato was fantastic just confusing as a first timer going in. Its very busy for eating alone there is the counter spaces or for smaller parties that dont mind counter. Its good place to eat

Easily one of the best scones I've tried. I ordered the Chile Lime Shrimp Bowl, and let's just say there were no leftovers. It was light, fresh, flavorful, and packed with healthy ingredients. If you're looking for a cute brunch spot in Encinitas with healthy options and homey vibes, The Cottage is definitely worth checking out.
