(where I also wanted to visit Kirke.) on a cobblestoned street. "Café Wilder is one of the oldest and most charming cafés in Christianshavn, and it is always packed with high-spirited regulars. The atmosphere is relaxed, multicultural and multilingual." The food served at Wilder is very good- you will find Danish options such as cod, mussels, steak tartare, grilled duck sausage and burgers. I chose the Vegetarian burger made from Panko fried celery, bread crumbs, raclette cheese, sauerkraut cornichon, onion confit and special sauce. Pommes frites with aioli accompanied the burger. I opted to skip the raclette ( too strong a cheese for me) and the sauerkraut which I'm not a fan. I must admit, this is one of the best veggie burgers I have ever had.. I know it's a pretty powerful statement. Additionally, I dislike celery and was not going to order this, however, I took a chance. I was glad I did as I enjoyed every bite. I chose a Sauvignon Blanc to wash it down , and it too was delicious. The vibe here is very French bistro or if you are a New Yorker, it reminds me very much of Odeon in Lower Manhattan, which I love. There are other menu options which were not offered to me: The Board which consists of amuse bouche, entree and dessert served all day. The service was professional and kind.. I know there are rarely substitutions on the menu as the chef prepares to his vision. But I do wish there could have been a cheese substitute. That is a minor issue. I enjoyed eating in style and relaxing post another Danish tour. Take M1( yellow line) to Christshavn stop and walk toward Wildersgarde, @5 minute walk. It is located on a quiet street.

It comes with different cheese, sausage, Serrano ham, fruits, avocado and three different kind of dips: hummus, apricot chili chutney and peas AND one more highlight: pancakes The avocado plate wasn't that "loaded" but it comes on the typical danish bread and Omelett so all together it's very loading Waiters are very nice and accommodating.

It has standard bar offerings, standard coffee options and a handful of substantial snack boards such as cheese plates and charcuterie plates. I saw several of these snack boards. They looked excellent. Most of the bars in the neighborhood have excellent selections of both beer and spirits, and first rate coffee. Cafe Gavlen is no exception. I went with Arnbitter, a superior Danish bitters. Danish bitters are like an improved version of Pernod. Darker, suaver, and richer but keeping the challenging licorice flavor that makes a pastis an interesting beverage. Bad pastis tastes like cough syrup. A fine Danish bitters is a long complex dialogue between you and the glass. * * * Many bars in Norrebro are essentially similar. There are tables out on the sidewalk. There is a darker room inside. The inside room gives you a fine view of the passing street scene. In Copenhagen, this means watching nine hundred thousand young adults bicycle from here to there. * * * What sets bars apart are two things. First, Is there a stupid television on inside? At Cafe Gavlen, the answer is no. * * * Second, how is the ambiance of the room? Is the room suavely decorated to make it interesting? Is it a loser's bar that is black and depressing? Is it a party bar that is as cheap as the swill in the kegs? * * * The inside of Cafe Gavlen could be called "Study in Sepia". There is fine antique brown wallpaper with dark green and burgundy flowers. There are ancient photographs. There is a boar's head mounted on the wall. The boar looks stately and porcine. The color of the room matched the flavor in my glass. Rich, brown and deep. There was mellowness in the walls, in the furniture, in the decoration. The room was a warm, dream-filled sleep. * * * This is what bars are for. There are people who go to bars to be social. Plenty of Danes around me were doing just that. For me, bars are a way to change the operation of my mind. To let the alcohol do its work. To let the brain fuse with what is in the glass and what is in the room. The scrabble of the human horde falls away, The details of the room begin to talk to you. A really good room has a story to tell. * * * In a really good room. your musings distill like brandy in the vat. Your grape juice thinking turns into wine, Your wine thinking turns as clear and forceful as German Mark. This is how you tell the best bars. The best bars are more than just a way to obtain alcohol. They are places in their own right with their own deep spirit. At Cafe Gavlen, not all the spirit is found in the bottles on the shelves.

There's an IPA and wheat beer on tap (it's all a bit hazy now, so I can't recall their names!) worth their salt as well. The bottled beer selection is global. Brooklyn Brewery fans should not be disappointed. As for the food, well, we spied the tastiest-looking burger this side of the Mississippi on someone's table and had to order it. The hubs was more than impressed. The toppings consisted of bacon, cheese, thick slabs of red onion, a halved dill pickle slice, slices of juicy tomato, crispy lettuce and lots of mayo. (Ketchup and hot sauces available at the bar.) The fries were thick-cut and quite crispy on the outside. Apparently, this place does a brisk brunch trade. I'd imagine on Sunday when the brew pub down the street is closed that C.G. is bustling with biz. The few times we visited were during the week and once late on a Sunday. The joint was fairly full, but not overly crowded. -just how we like it.

Although we didn't have to wait long for our table, online table booking would have been more convenient. Seriously, what's up with these brunch places - you can be strict and say you would hold table for 15 minutes only and I am sure people would appreciate that. - Noise level was absolutely bad, see #1. It's a big open place inside and since there were lots of people and they were all talking, we could hardly have a conversation inside, let alone hygge, but fortunately the food was good enough of a distraction - Super greasy bacon. Seriously, if you claim to be a brunch place, do your bacon right. I like the smokey flavour but the shit was literally dripping with oil. Kinda disgusting to pick up from the plate and now for the positive sides: I love that there are more and more brunch places with this concept where you mix and match your own stuff. All the stuff they had in their menu (would like to try the asparagus but they didn't have that!) sounded so scrumptious that we felt like we had to try it all and we did (almost all). My personal favourites would be the soft-boiled egg and the waffle, although Mina K also swore by the sunny side up egg (spejlæg). The item that I was looking forward the most (avocado) turned out to be a big disappointment. More flavour please. Although there were so many people on that day, the service was very prompt and efficient, we got our table relatively fast considering that there were 6 names ahead of us and the food came quick too. My cortado was delicious although it was somewhat weak. All in all, service was quick and painless. I might want to try this place again on a not weekend morning, or maybe later in the afternoon when there's more relaxed atmosphere around this place. Sunday morning brunch gave us bad vibes since they were a lot of people waiting to get their brunch and the stressed out waiters and waitresses didn't help. Four for now and I really hate to degrade my review. I hope it never will come to that.

You do not order to the waiter, but fill out the paper sheet by crossing off on the menu what you and your table desire, so in summary you actually design your own menu. The place offers a lot of different things, but mostly the place is for breakfast/ brunch and maybe lunch.. They offer different style eggs, sausages, youghurt, müsli, fruit etc., and each little dish cost between 20-50 kr.. The food is served in these little ceramic, stylish plates. I would recommend their poached egg, the avocado, grape fruit and their delicious coffee. I am very found of the place and it is worth a visit. One advice is to come early during the weekend, or make reservations, because the place is packed.

The chicken pasta and mushroom pasta dishes were good, but keep the salt & pepper handy. I normally travel with a small bottle of hot sauce "just in case", but I forgot it...if you do this too, bring it! The big plus about this place is that they are open late and have dine-in in this area. If you don't want to eat...great...I do think this is a nice place to just order a drink and maybe an appetizer (or dessert) to just chill after a long day. Apropos is within walking distance of a lot of different hotels in the area. However, the metro/subway station isn't far...maybe 300 meters of walking distance. Moreover, there is parking along the street if you have a rental car and/or you live over here and are visiting with your own vehicle.

But honestly, this was probably the best I've ever had and the portions were huge for the price. The açaí was the perfect balance of tart and sweet - but not overly sweet. And I loved the different granola and oats they had on top. The bananas were so tiny it was just so cute!!
