I was interested in this cafe due to a picture featured in my Denmark travel book. It is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Christianshavn.. (where I also wanted to visit Kirke.) on a cobblestoned street. "Café Wilder is one of the oldest and most charming cafés in Christianshavn, and it is always packed with high-spirited regulars. The atmosphere is relaxed, multicultural and multilingual." The food served at Wilder is very good- you will find Danish options such as cod, mussels, steak tartare, grilled duck sausage and burgers. I chose the Vegetarian burger made from Panko fried celery, bread crumbs, raclette cheese, sauerkraut cornichon, onion confit and special sauce. Pommes frites with aioli accompanied the burger. I opted to skip the raclette ( too strong a cheese for me) and the sauerkraut which I'm not a fan. I must admit, this is one of the best veggie burgers I have ever had.. I know it's a pretty powerful statement. Additionally, I dislike celery and was not going to order this, however, I took a chance. I was glad I did as I enjoyed every bite. I chose a Sauvignon Blanc to wash it down , and it too was delicious. The vibe here is very French bistro or if you are a New Yorker, it reminds me very much of Odeon in Lower Manhattan, which I love. There are other menu options which were not offered to me: The Board which consists of amuse bouche, entree and dessert served all day. The service was professional and kind.. I know there are rarely substitutions on the menu as the chef prepares to his vision. But I do wish there could have been a cheese substitute. That is a minor issue. I enjoyed eating in style and relaxing post another Danish tour. Take M1( yellow line) to Christshavn stop and walk toward Wildersgarde, @5 minute walk. It is located on a quiet street. read more

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty experience. Cafe Wilder seemed like a French bistro in the middle of Copenhagen. Dining was available indoors or on the patio. Opted for the daily special and it started off with a fried ravioli as an amuse bouche. The ravioli was vegetarian and the fried dough was a touch odd. The veal special was excellent. Requested this medium rare and it came out as such. The highlight was the super flavorful and fragrant sauces. I loved the side vegetables too. The side of fried potatoes were tasty too. Finished the meal off with the creme brulee which was decent. 414 kr for lunch read more

Nice fancy feeling french restaurant. Waiters were very nice and attentive. Food was decent. The chicken was great but the fries were overly salty. Because the fries were thick, they were not crunchy. Definitely not typical French style fries. The moules were just fine. The "filet" was a bit tough. As is typical with more expensive restaurants in Denmark, they ask you whether you want to leave a tip at the end. I always feel uncomfortable in front of the waitress when this happens and therefore leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. This restaurant is open on Sundays, which is somewhat uncommon in Denmark - so you need a reservation for Sunday evenings. It was a bit expensive (our most expensive meal in Denmark. Obviously there are plenty of more expensive places as well) - a menu of a tiny appetizer, a chicken with fries and the crème brûlée for about $43 USD. The crème brûlée was a very nice sized portion. Used to come here a lot in its early days. In the late 80:s it was a meeting and eating place for artists, musicians and actors. Even some directors came by. A center point. The menu was all Danish. Today all that is gone with guests mainly from other corners of society. Still a good place, though, keeping some contact with the golden past. Like some typical Danish courses, chicken salad and different kinds of herring. Famous are the paintings on the wall. Foremost the one which is based on a photo of the Swedish actress Anita Ekberg (La dolce vita). On the painting consequentially are added all the bottles. Hope you like it. read more

That has to be the prettiest chicken salad sandwich I ever saw on a plate. Prepared in typical smørrebrød fashion, it was an open-faced creation with a carefully spooned dollop of chicken salad atop a thin, manicured piece of rye bread and festooned with haricots vert and three strips of crispy bacon (see photo). It was lovely but rather pricey for 89 DKK (Danish krone), which converts to about $15.82. Now that price point would make the Asian ladies at Lee's Deli back home in San Francisco keel over. But I was on vacation so what the heck. Cafe Wilder is a compact corner eatery with a very light lunch menu in the bohemian part of Copenhagen called Christianshavn. It appears to be a local favorite because it was abuzz with bicyclists coming in for a quick bite and latte. What I like about this kind of place is that it doesn't look at all like a Starbucks knockoff but rather classic European with chandeliers, white walls, dark wood cafe tables for two, and big, inviting show windows that open to the quiet residential streets. There is a more robust dinner menu that's served starting at 6PM. Worth checking out. Came here after reading recommendations on yelp. I had breakfast - scrambled eggs with bacon. Absolutely amazing :) The eggs were done just the right way and the bacon was so crispy and absolutely not greasy The inside is quiet with soft not deafening music. On our last evening in Copenhagen, we had dinner at Cafe Wilder, a small restaurant located on an unassuming corner of Wildersgade and Sankt Annæ Gade in the residential area of Christianshavn. The place had opened bay windows all around, creating a warm, intimate, and romantic atmosphere. We ordered four dishes: Salmon (79 KR), Mackerel (189 KR), Poussin (179 KR), and Ox (209 KR). I had the poussin, which was butter roasted chicken, served over a creamy risotto with portobello mushrooms, spring onions, and parsley oil. The risotto was perfectly cooked, and the parsley added an amazing layer of flavor to the dish. This dinner was probably my second favorite meal during my entire trip through Scandinavia, Germany, Estonia, and Russia (best meal was in Tallinn). Service was okay, considering it was our server's first night on the job. He was a bit confused and slow throughout, but it was understandable and we weren't in a hurry to leave. We did have some issues with our credit card transaction, but that was quickly fixed by another server, who was much more experienced. Nobody comes to Copenhagen to save money. Remember that as you eat at what would otherwise be a charming, casual neighborhood spot. Modestly-sized menu allows for exploration of what the kitchen wants to offer. Open-faced sandwiches are the way to go in your reviewer's humble opinion. I had the open rye bread chicken salad sandwich. I have no idea how the rest of the menu is and to be honest, I figure I'll never find out. With chicken salad soo good, why ever pick anything else? Let me paint you a mouth drooling picture: The food comes on a rustic black stone board. Here, you'll find two pieces of thin, perfectly toasted coarse rye bread and a jar of deliciously home made chicken salad (chicken, mustard, mayo, parsley, salt and pepper) and small gherkins. Yummy! The rest is history. I wanted to take a picture for you guys, but I got so overly thrilled when the food arrived that I accidentally ate everything before I remembered to take the photo. Sorry! This small cafe in the afternoon cum restaurant in the evening reminded my a whole lot of l'Utime Atom in Bruxelles, that being, somewhere cool to hang out as well as eat. Both places have the massive unexpected bonus of the food being absolutely superb (well, the first time you go anyway!) This steak (pictured), was, quite literally, incredible. No ultra-lean cut, but marbled with quite a lot of delicious fat, and they didn't ask how I wanted it, but it was perfect. There's a decent lineup of beer too, including Tuborg on draft which tastes a lot better then when I remember it being on sale in the UK. Very laid back, and highly recommended. read more

If there were 5 more stars I would give it all 10. I had one of the specials, a traditional pork dish with celery hearts and mashed potatoes. It sounds simple but it was unbelievably delicious. The savory pork played perfectly with the bitter/aromatic celery hearts and the mashed potatoes. Great painting on the wall! Good cheese selection. Very good both times that i have visited. Warm and quaint setting. Friendly staff. Excellent food with balanced flavors, high quality ingredients, looked and tasted fresh, and cooked just right. Likely the best food here out of about 6 restaurants we dined at. Don't miss the Moule Frites, Tatar Frites, and other selections. Their mussels were fresh, large, and clean. A VERY nice and mellow place to grab a light meal and caffe in the arty Christiana neighborhood. The food is tasty and the staff VERY nice and informative. (Had a very pleasant, fragmented conversation with my waiter about photography and local culture. Very helpful for scouting out shots.) And the vibe of the venue is so comfortable & inviting. Loved their breakfast concept! It's fairly priced and has a lot of options so anything you're looking for that morning cafe wilder's got it. The service was exceptional. I was visiting Copenhagen with my sister for a few days and asked our waitress a question about the sight we were planning on visiting that day and she went out of her way to Google more information for us, down to the sight's closing hours. I definitely plan on making this my go-to cafe when I visit Copenhagen again :) read more

We liked this so much for lunch, we almost went back for dinner too. Slightly off the beaten track in a residential part of Christianshaven but only a short walk from the Knippelsbro bridge. Good range of locally produced Danish foods - generous helpings of open sandwiches, salads, herring without the silly price tags you see outside some Copenhagen restaurants. Service was really friendly and the place was full of Danes - few tourists - so we knew it was a good choice. read more

As tourist we were wandering the streets in this area of Copenhagen. We saw on Tripadvisor about this restaurant with good ratings nearby us. We went to the restaurant and there was no one in the restaurant, but the restaurant across the street was crowded, Cafe Wilder. So, we cross the street and go seated right away outside. The food is organic and local ingredients. The food was amazing & delicious. We think no matter what you order off this menu you will not be disappointed. The service was just as good as the food. This was a great Yelp find. We had just flown over from Stockholm, with 36 hours to spend in Copenhagen before our trip back to the states. I talked my wife into riding the underground to Christianshawn, which was clearly a BIG young nightlife area on a Friday night -- she commented on the police presence, of which we have seen little here. So I suggested we walk and get a bit away from the main plaza (plads?) with the young people. I pulled up Yelp and found two restaurants nearby with good ratings. We looked in on both and chose this. It was terrific. Fairly small menu but plenty of choices for us. Nice wine and beer list. I had a bargain 3-course meal and my wife had 2 starters and then ordered dessert (her version of 3 courses). Everything was excellent, including a local beer. British couple sitting on one side of us, an Australian couple across the aisle and three young women from neighborhood celebrating something with champagne -- an eclectic place. Service was inconsistent, which was fine since we were happy to relax -- but with a little more focus on service, I might go 5 stars. But the service was very friendly -- just not particularly attentive or quick. read more
