I went to Cajun Phatty's for a lunch during the week with some work mates. The staff was friendly. They accommodated our group of 6 without an issue. I got the Blackened Shrimp with Andouille Pasta. It was a large portion with plenty of decently cooked shrimp. Everyone got large portions and all the food was prepared well. I think this is a great option if you're in the area and want something other than national chain fast food or pizza. This is not a complaint but our server, who seemed like the most tenured server in the restaurant, frequently had to tell customers the salad dressing options, which if I remember right there were three. One of them was a Balsamic Vinaigrette, but she called it "Balsamic Vinegar-Et." Just for anyone and maybe that server you don't say the whole word "vinegar" when saying "vinaigrette", it's vina-gret. read more

Excellent food!!!!! And service!!!! I had the seafood bisque (AMAZING!!!) and the Shrimp Etoufee. My husband had the Jambalaya. All the food was so flavorful and you can pick the amount of heat. Didn't expect to be eating a lobster and shrimp roll in Montana, but here I am and it's delicious! I've eaten lobster rolls in Massachusetts, New York, and Maryland and this is every bit as good as the ones from near the coast right down to the split roll and the seasoning. Starting off on a positive note- food was great. No complaints. We ordered a variety of things, all of which were good down to the tea. I think almost anything on the menu would be a safe bet, everything we got was above average, especially for cajun food outside of the south. I don't necessarily like having to write about the service at restaurants. I've worked in the food industry before and know how exhausting and daunting it can be. That said, service was mediocre. Staff did not seem happy to be there whatsoever, the hostess had a snappy attitude when we walked in right off the bat. I totally understand that people have bad days, that includes while at work, but when the hostess' attitude mixed with the below average service by our waitress and another staff member that seemed to not really be working, talking loudly and arguably unprofessionally, it does create a negative ambiance to the place. Let me be start off with the food presentation was very good! I recommend the fried green tomatoes. We(3) are from the gulf coast Louisiana, Florida and love Cajun food. I ordered the shrimp étouffée, my coworkers both ordered the catfish. Étouffée was delicious, but the rice was undercooked. My coworkers liked the dirty rice, fried biscuits but the fish(smaller chunk cuts rather than filets and no tartar sauce) was just ok. The service was very attentive! She kept our glasses full and checked on us repeatedly. However, she ordered the wrong étouffée(crawfish instead of shrimp) for me. Rather than apologizing and reordering my entrée, she insisted on pointing out that she thought "I" said the wrong dish. so I added that I had even showed her the picture on the menu of what I wanted. Note: This was a take-out order so the review is about the food. There is indoor and outdoor seating. After trying some other "Cajun" joint the other day I needed to come here. Why? Cause if I get fair to good food/service my system needs to find similar food that is better to great. In many respects, this place helped me get satisfaction! Had a cup of gumbo - not bad, not great. Too watery, not enough andouille. As a takeout order I would have provided the rice by itself in separate container. Then the customer (me) could mix it up. I was headed home to Dallas, TX (from vacationing in Canada), when I saw this place during a gas stop. I spent the first 17 years of my life growing up in Lafayette, LA (AKA the heart of Cajun country), and the Louisiana boy in me had to stop here for a bite to eat. I went in with low expectations, because... Cajun food in Montana, say wuuuut? Besides, I had Cajun food just days prior in Banff, CA and was let down. But this place, Cajun Phatty's, is legit and the real deal. The gumbo and ettoufee are Cajun (and not Creole), which is the way it should be. You folk in Billings are lucky as hell to have, not only a Cajun restaurant, but a damn good one at that. I probably won't go back but do have friends that love this place. I had the jumbalaya and it was good but very salty. The gator bites seemed mostly breading, but had good flavor. They also had a live musician that was so loud it was hard to visit. Our waitress was top notch and took very good care of us. Think I'm just not a big Cajun fan. The Shrimp Po'Boy and the Crab Cakes are delish but rich, so I would order them separately in the future (I foolishly tried splitting two dishes with a friend because we both couldn't decideToday I tried the Bayou Band Shrimp and was absolutely blown away. We stopped by to have lunch and got their ribs for an appetizer. Almost an Asian BBQ flavor. Super tender and delicious. For entrees we got the alligator basket with fries and the catfish po boy. Nothing better than mom/pop places. From the starters to the dessert. We had zero complaints. The side salad was even amazing. Between my husband and I we had shrimp & crab cakes, shrimp etoufee, blackened shrimp pasta, side salads, red beans with rice, and apple crisp for dessert. Each item had a very unique flavor to it. Not one item tasted the same. Who would of thought we would find good ol Cajun food in Billings MT. This place is a must try. Great seating area outside and wonderful customer service. This makes no f'ing sense Maybe if one of the morons that works there would bother to update their website or yelp page so that people wouldn't drive and find out they're closed. Have been wanting to try this place. The place was empty. Service was prompt and friendly. You order, then sit down. They were out of boudin, said their truck didn't come in, that was unfortunate because thats what I was wanting. Ordered the bayou bang chicken. It was very tasty but kind of pricey for about 10 bite size pieces of chicken. Flavor was good. Also ordered the red beans and rice with chicken. The boneless fried chicken tender was delicious. The red beans and rice was awful. Tasted like canned black, refried beans with no flavor. I've traveled to Louisiana extensively, all over the state, and this rendition of red beans and rice is like nothing I've ever tasted there. Definitely not cajun. The new location is really nice. Definitely a change. Being someone who cooks and loves Cajun style dishes I was anxious to see how things turned out with the move. I had the shrimp and crawfish etoufee and the gumbo. The gumbo was underwhelming and the etoufee had plenty of rice compared to meat. The roux was excellent, and the rice done right, but the mountain of rich swamped the meat and made the dish more of a rice and roux with a bit of shrimp and crawfish. I was disappointed. When I first ate at the old location the quality seemed much better. The food was not bad, it just lacked that Louisiana flair and almost as if somebody decided people in this part of the country would not appreciate true cajun cooking. A new POS system for the staff to navigate made for an interesting time of getting to know how to put the orders in. Not a big deal. Maybe I will try it again someday. read more

New address: 1603 Grand Ave. Suite 145B Had dinner tonight on Wednesday, August 30th to celebrate my sister's birthday. A party of four. Time was 6 PM. There was some confusion with Front of House (Hostess) in getting us seated. Possibly due to large influx of people coming through the door. Server, who was outstanding & super friendly, come over to get our drink order. Apparently, Lemonade was not available due to being out of stock. (Not sure how lemonade can be out of stock...) After drinks arrived, our party of four placed our orders for our entrees with side salads. When, our side salads arrived, we were told that Caesar salad was not available & out of stock for one of my party of four. Side salads were not chilled & were overall just iceberg lettuce. I had a half of a tiny cherry tomato for my salad along with huge slices of red onion, two pieces of cucumber, & some shredded cheese. Dinner entrees were good overall. I've had issues in past with dishes being over salted. Three of my party decided to order dessert. After waiting for a extreme amount of time to get the desserts, they eventually arrived. Our server kept giving us updates & apologizing for the extreme delay. Our server, eventually stated she would comp the desserts from the bill. The Back of the House (kitchen) is seriously lacking in delivering food on time for this restaurant. Also, a restaurant should never be out of stock on common drinks (lemonade) or side salads (Ceasar salad). The table setup with the half booth is not optimal & too cramped. People should not be sitting on top of other customers. Tables are too small. Prices for food at this restaurant are high & have been raised from their original establishment before their merger. With the cost of living high for everything, there are other restaurants in Billings that provide a better value & overall service (better kitchen efficiency). In short, our server was outstanding & super friendly. First impressions are everything & I rarely give a restaurant a second chance. read more

My boss and I really really really wanted to love this and I was excited for some Cajun food. Our dishes were all right but I didn't get what I was looking for. I may have ordered the wrong dish, went with the jambalaya. We also had some Boudin balls. Our waitress was unfamiliar with Cajun food and recommended a non-Cajun item when we asked her what was good. I have been here twice and the food is delicious but I have a problem with too much fried food. My daughter had shrimp and grits and really liked them.
