I gotta write this so I know what not to get. I did not love my food. It just satisfied my hunger. The rice was not fresh, a lil harder than its supposed to be, no peas nor carrots which is A huge NO NO. Not good. Wings were ok in taste but didn't like the brown bone marrow that was visible on the chicken bone. Ewww... I did not like the Crab Puffs. The were really light and Crispy, but they were bitter. This place is a newly opened but still sort of a hole-in-the-wall place in the middle of the Alief SW Houston neighborhood. It's at the end of a small strip attached to a gas station but the positive review lured me here. I have to say while it isn't quite Pappadeaux, it is still a solid and inexpensive option especially if you live in the area. The interior is small with maybe three or four small tables so it's definitely more of a takeout kind of place, but we still ate here. The service was very friendly. We had the shrimp and trout platter with fried rice and the chicken wings and fries platter and I must say it was a LOT of food (see my photos). We were super full and had plenty of leftovers. This place is small and good for take-out. The man and lady who work there are nothing short of sweet and kind to everyone that walks in (even when people are rude). The wait isn't TOO bad for the price and portions. Most everything will be ready in 20 minutes. Don't be fooled by the name! If you want some good (American) Chinese go here because it's defiantly better than the average Chinese take-out spot. I suggest you order the General Tso or Orange chicken! The meat is lightly breaded so you get to really taste the meat and not just fried batter and sauce. I've had the chicken wings which a pretty big wings which are seasoned nicely and fried to golden perfection. The fried shrimp and burgers are also good! Don't knock them on the fries and salad. This mom and pop establishment is a hidden gem. Not only are the owners extremely welcoming and sweet - but the food is fresh and delicious! I love the General Tso's Chicken and Beef Lo Mein - ask for the Lo Mein to be spicy, you will not regret it! I always stop to order take a out - The portions are generous and the prices are unbeatable. I usually order for myself, and I'll take my friends to order as well and they are never disappointed. I usually order the Chicken Tenders for my daughter - and the Chicken is deliciously battered and fried. The Crab Puffs are homemade and have a delicate crust, not a heavy one - which I appreciate! This place is SO good. I have lived in the area all of my 40+ years and was so happy to try AND LIKE the food and the staff. The family used to own and run a restaurant off of Bellaire and 610. The lady in the front is knowledgeable, speaks good english, and smiles genuinely. The rice, burgers, fries, shrimp, wings, and chinese plates are ALL worth $2-$3 more.....especially for the portions. It is hole-in-the-wall and blow away many of the places on Bellaire in china-town. We live right down the street and cant wait try another menu item! read more

It may be a very small restaurant but the quality of the food is great & the prices are pretty cheap for what you're getting. My fav dish is the fried chicken wings & the general tso chicken! I had to do some laundry next door. It was a long wait at the laundry so I didn't have a chance to get something to eat. I noticed this restaurant next door. I thought it was one of those crappy dive in the hole restaurants. It's run by Chinese. I decided to try it out because I was hungry. Glad I did. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken because it's less greasy than the other dishes. I was pleasantly surprised. This meal was healthy. No batter chicken. A lot of fresh zucchini that wasn't overcooked. Free eggroll that was juicy and crunchy. Rice that wasn't chewy and had some soy sauce mixed in. This meal isn't authentic Chinese but what I call "soul food" Chinese American food. The spice on the Kung Pao was sweet and hot but not too hot and reminded me of Southern hot sauce. The food was priced inexpensively. The best part is that NO MSG was used. I liked it. read more

Previously, this restaurant was run by a few owners over the years I learned. But the food here is so reasonably priced and the owners are so helpful and kind. Literally one table in the place, I get it more a takeout place. No problem. The lady taking my order didn't speak enough English to understand that I wanted extra crispy fries. I initially tried to order the special on the wall, but basically she wouldn't let me. I know I'm a grown woman, but literally she was telling me that special that the sign states 2 piece fish with shrimp and fried rice 5.99 didn't exist. I said the one that's on the sign. No budge. She told me the guy that ordered before me comes in all the time. Guess I'm supposed to feel better about her having return customers. I gave in and ordered 2 pc fish with shrimp comes with fries and salad. I decided to stay and eat at the one table cuz I wasn't in a hurry to get back to work. Food comes out. Piping hot. Awesome!!! Salad has French dressing that is mixed with horseradish. Why not just pour it out of the bottle??? I can't stand horseradish. That's the beginning of the end for me. The white sauce is basically a thin mayo seasoned with horseradish. The fries were ok. No horseradish, thank goodness. Shrimp were butterflied and cooked perfectly. Didn't taste like much, but at least no more horseradish. Or so I thought. The fish has the same horseradish flavor. Either that or it was so pronounced on the salad it made the other things taste like it??? Not sure. At any rate. 10$ down the drain, I just couldn't eat anymore because of that flavor that was not pleasant at all to me. And I'm still hungry. read more

It is a small, no frills place with very friendly service. I got a dozen fried shrimp with fries and a little salad for $7.50 and it was a great amount of food. The shrimp were butterflied, dusted with cornmeal and properly fried. The fries were the way I love them crinkle cut and crispy. There was a small salad ( 7 -8 forks full ) with French dressing. I have paid twice the price for the same amount of food in other places. I am going to try the oysters this weekend. read more

Was in town visiting the family and stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant while driving in the area. Had the fried rice with fried shrimp and my buddy had the fried trout. I gotta say, we both thought it was pretty damn good and what made it better was the reasonable price they charge. Gonna visit this place a couple more times before I head back up north. read more
