Baked in the Burg opens at 10am and closes at 7pm, and has a very different vibe than what we were expecting. The pastries are definitely meant to be the star of the show, but they were mislabeled (labeled as chocolate pistachio but only chocolate was available), and the baristas knew very little about the product. Speaking of the baristas, although they were very friendly, they clearly were woefully lacking in training. I ordered a chai tea, and one of the baristas asked the other, "Do you know how to make that?" Additionally, my mom ordered a coffee, and when she asked if the brew coffee sitting on the hot plate was fresh, the barista answered, "It was made this morning [seven hours prior to our visit], but it's been on the hot plate." My mom had to ask for a fresh pot to be made, because apparently no one told these poor girls how disgusting coffee is after seven hours on a hot plate. To their credit, though, they were extremely friendly and accommodating, and did their best to answer all of our questions. I just think they need more training. As far as the pastries are concerned, we were so disappointed that we ended up going to Sorrento Sweets right up the street. Skip Baked in the Burg and head to Sorrento's if you want a high-quality bakery experience.

When received we did received a nice assortment but it would have been nice to see what were the flavors, maybe a sticker on bottom so people knew what they were getting. The cupcakes were really tiny, literally bite size. Decorated nicely. The frosting was over powering which made it super sweet. The cupcake itself was a bit dry and no flavor, which I guess was good cuz then it truly would have been over the top sweet. I don't want to knock the cupcakes or the business as I see her cakes are amazing but for the price it wasn't the best cupcakes. They left everyone lacking. I got to say I wasn't really loving it.. Until the really SWEET barista guy. Put two shots of simple syrup in my drink. Then, it was perfect. I also got a piece of cinnamon coffee cake. Which was to DIE FOR. And when it was time to check out. I had enough money left on my gift card. To pay for both the drink and the coffee cake. Which was TOTALLY AWESOME My bill came to $11 and change. I left cash for the tip. Along with more money. To the barista for going the extra mile for his customers. I so appreciate that. The past few times I was at this location. It was between 2021 and 2023. Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience both times.. I wanted to try Starbucks for the last time. And I'm glad I did. From there, the experience felt a bit chaotic. There were quite a few people in the store, and I felt like the workers were very displeased by my presence. I honestly felt like I was a bother. I completely understand that I arrived close to closing, so I tried to be respectful of their time and rushed through the store to grab a few items. I had driven an hour to get there, so I wanted to at least make the most of the trip. When I went to check out, I initially got in one line, and the cashier was finishing up with the customer already there and directed me to another line, so I followed her instructions. I had a basket with my items and wasn't sure if I was supposed to empty it myself. There wasn't an obvious place to leave the empty basket, and the cashier never indicated that she would take it from me. I apologized and explained that it was my first time there. She told me that next time I should come during the week so I could browse more. As I was leaving, I noticed so many people trying to enter the store and being turned away because it was now past closing. That made me think Mazzaro's may want to reconsider its Saturday hours. They are clearly a very popular and well-known store, yet being open from only 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and being closed on Sundays makes it difficult for people who work typical Monday-Friday, full-time hours to visit. I take responsibility for not checking the hours before making the drive, and I understand that the employees were probably ready to go home. However, I still think there is a difference between enforcing closing time and making a customer feel unwelcome.
