Sammy G's Sammy G's is the kind of place you don't expect to…read morewin you over, which is exactly why it does. At first glance, it is not some gleaming waterfront temple to seafood. It sits tucked into the middle of a working shipyard and repair station, perched high on stilts, looking out over the boat canal that cuts toward Clear Lake. Boats nose in nearby. Machinery, water, salt air, and the honest clutter of a place that actually does something surround it. That, to me, is already a good sign. The place still has that new-restaurant sheen on it, but not in a sterile, corporate way. It was busy when we went--boaters, locals, the kind of crowd that usually knows where the good fried things live. There was something about it that reminded me of Outriggers under the bridge: casual, loud enough, coastal, and unpretentious in all the right ways. Now, the food. I ordered the shrimp basket, expecting the usual sad parade of frozen, breaded, food-service mediocrity. That is not what showed up. These were real Gulf Coast shrimp, plump and properly fried, with a batter that tasted homemade--cornmeal, spice, crunch, and restraint. Close to perfect, if we are being honest. And the hush puppies? Dangerous. The kind of side dish that stops being a side dish after the first bite. I could have sat there with a basket of those, a cold Shiner Bock, and called it dinner without complaint. The waitstaff and bar crew were friendly, quick, and seemed genuinely glad to be there, which is not nothing. Food came out fast. The whole experience had the rare pleasure of a place exceeding expectations without trying too hard. I went in unsure what to make of Sammy G's. I left knowing exactly what I thought: I will be back, and probably more often than I should.

Customer service was great. Javier was our server, very attentive. The owner came out offered some crawfish with our meal. Very good taste. A retired Houston Fireman,l love supporting Mom/Pops. The outlaw burger 8oz. Angus, bacon, cheese, pecan smoked brisket, grilled onions, jalapeños, & bbq sauce on a very tasty poppy seed potato bun is the real deal. #supportlocal #supportsmallbusinessowners

Best Bites takes you to Seabrook!…read more Today, while visiting my grandson, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Athena's Corner Greek Restaurant in Seabrook, and it was absolutely delicious! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm Mediterranean charm. The restaurant is beautiful, inviting, and filled with Greek-inspired décor. You can choose to dine inside or relax on their lovely outdoor patio. Our waitress, Rachel, was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and genuinely hospitable. She made us feel right at home! We kicked off our meal with a couple of appetizers, and they were every bit as impressive as they were delicious. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and served with warm, fluffy pita bread. We also enjoyed the falafels--perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, and even better dipped in their spicy feta spread! For my entrée, I chose the Lunch Special featuring a savory spinach pie, served with a fresh Greek salad and a cup of their famous Avgolemono (Greek lemon soup) . It was light, comforting, and packed with flavor. My grandson ordered the Chickpea Salad , a dish he loved so much on a previous visit that he couldn't resist ordering it again. That's always a good sign! My husband selected the Stuffed Shrimp Special . The plate was absolutely beautiful--jumbo baked shrimp stuffed with a savory crab dressing, served over a bed of mushroom orzo. It tasted every bit as incredible as it looked! If you're ever in Seabrook, Texas, and you're craving something fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, I highly recommend Athena's Corner Greek Restaurant. You'll enjoy a relaxing atmosphere, outstanding hospitality, and food that's made with care and bursting with authentic flavor. Best Bites Approved! Have you been to Athena's Corner? I'd love to hear what your favorite dish is! #BestBites #TastefullyHettyB

I'm finally dusting off my old 2017 review for Boondoggles to provide an update…read more I returned here last night for a pre-birthday outing. While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.

A large, soft, salty pretzel and creamy, decadent dip made this app a 10/10. Then we tried a couple of cups of gumbo which had the best roux I have ever tasted... Another 10!!! I could just order a pretzel and a bowl of gumbo and be completely satisfied with my meal here. For our mains we got the sticky chicken and fried catfish. Sticky chicken was a little sweet for my taste 7/10 and the catfish was perfect, another 10/10. The sides were good but the jalapeno blueberry coleslaw stole the show. If you're ever in the area this restaurant is a must try! They'll be moving to a new location soon and I hope it has the same cozy feel as this original location.

A small one crawling on the wall near our table and someone from my party saw a larger one crawling near the kitchen. And boy was it stuffy in there. I asked our waitress if she could move a floor fan near for some relief and to detour the gnats, she said she go ask but she never came back and when she did she completely forgot my request. We weren't seated in the greater eating area where it was cooler and maybe where the gnats were less of a bother. The food was delicious and homemade, you can tell it was made with high quality ingredients and that Southern skill that you can only get from helping Grandma in the kitchen. BUT the roaches made us lose our appetite. Such a shame. It seemed like the building went down. They don't seem to put as much effort into the condition of that place as they do the food. Dusty ceiling fans and crummy floors. I appreciate the homey vibe but it looked really junky, more stuff piled in unoccupied corners as before. I gave a lot of things the side eye, I mean it there has to be maintained asthetic. They charged an 18% gratuity on my tab for a party of 8 but I arrived with 4 people, the other 4 had already been there, paid and was almost done with their meal. Then of course the cashier/waitress still mentioned an additional, optional tip. I didn't think that was fair. At the end of it all she wasn't the best waitress.
