There are a lot of mixed reviews about this place but I personally had a positive experience. They don't appear to have as much variety as previous photos may suggest, but they have the usual items you'd expect at a Korean bakery (i.e. variety of buns, loaves of bread, cakes, etc). I got a whole red bean filled pastry for $3 and it was PACKED full of red bean. One review below said they didn't get any filling so maybe they got a bad bun or a misplaced one? It's not the cheapest red bean bun around town but they're so generous with the red bean that I think it's a reasonable price. I almost felt like it was a bit too much for my taste but the filling itself was tasty and I enjoyed the whole red bean texture vs the usual paste. FYI they have the smooth paste version as well for $2.50 a bun. Overall, I think this is a decent bakery that's worth stopping by, especially if you happen to be grocery shopping at Galleria. read more

I get cakes and pastries from Cake House a lot because it's nearby my place and I love all the different varieties they sell here. Their glutinous corn bread is a must! And seriously they have so many cute cakes to choose from. The best thing is their location- they are right on the way as you exit the Galleria Market to the parking lot so it's super convenient to pick up some sweets or pastries. Overall, most or all of their items are tasty - perhaps more catering to the Asian taste but that is what they are. However, it's usually not easy to find something healthy. Most of their items are made from refined flour, even their multigrain bread seems quite "refined" - in my opinion. Prices are at par with most Korean bakeries in the area. Parking is super convenient (right outside in large structure) and free. Varieties seemed less since the pandemic, but that's understandable. One thing that has been consistent is their service attitude-- usually quite cold and minimal, unless you speak Korean. Again, understandable, but it sure makes the shopping experience a little unpleasant. read more

The rating is for two of the items sold here: the salty bun and the salad sandwich. I've come to the galleria market and always tend to visit Cake House because of its convenient location. I usually get a loaf of bread and the coffee. However, one weekend, I saw a small number of the salty buns-I think that was its name, can't be certain. Anyway, it was soooo good. It was perfectly buttery with the absolute best ratio of saltiness. In the middle of finishing the bun off, I wished that I had bought more than just one. It's got no fillings nor sprinkles of any kind. It's just a simple piece of bun that tasted like heaven, at least to my taste buds. I am going to try and figure out when they make these because in all the years that I've gone, I have not ever seen them! My next review is for the salad sandwich. A bonafide Korean would pronounce it. Sahlahdah bread. The buns are mini in size and sweet. The salada part reminds me of when my granny used to buy these sandwiches for us. This bakery has been around forever and still is better than Paris Baguette and TLJ but they keep raising their prices and it's kinda absurd to me. Their red bean donuts used to be $2.75 and now it's $4 within the last year or so. If it's the best I get it but theres nothing special about it so it's a bit disappointing bc I stopped going here after the high price points on all their items. Not that it was the first Korean bakery in Los Angeles, but it brought more of modern vibe that lacked many and many moons ago. I appreciated them bringing more than fresh cream cakes with fruits and strawberries. They went beyond roll cakes, soboro and cream pan. And then SPC (Paris Baguette) and CJ (Tous Les Jours) hopped in the L.A. market, and changed the Korean bakery scene. This location can use some TLC, but their baked goods are still solid. They offer a decent selection and I am always happy when biting into their baked goodies. Perhaps, they need to freshen up their menu a bit, but I'm also not a fan of offering everything under the sun to seem interesting. Stick to what you are master at... Service? I've had their breads quite a few times, like red bean soboro buns, choco cream bread, roll cakes, which were delicious and only a couple dollars for a bun, but going to Korean bakeries are so normal and casual to me that I've never felt compelled to review this place...until I've tried their Green Tea Mille Crepe Cake. Wow, this was really good. This weekend was quite the celebration for birthdays so I coincidentally tried the matcha crepe cake from here at church and one from Lady M's at work the next day. I liked the Cake House version a lot more than Lady M (famous & expensive bakery known for their millecrepe cake). The Cake House version felt lighter than Lady M's which the creme was too heavy and buttery. The matcha flavor was also spot on here. For a full cake, Lady M's is $85 while it's $42 here. I've also had the mille crepe cake at Tous Les Jours which was a stale and tasteless disappointment, but at Cake House, it was an A+ cake for such a delicate & labor-intensive cake. read more

After having an AYCE Korean BBQ dinner, I opened the Cake House box that was ooh so beautifully wrapped. Everyone at the table ooh'd and aah'd at the display of macarons, as they were a rainbow of colors. Then, we took a bite... My first taste was of Coconut. It was flaky and fell apart. Mild flavor. The Background: Korean bakery with various cakes/cheesecakes, freshly baked goods, coffee and random items like croquettes, red bean donuts, sandwiches and even macarons! The details: I've been here a couple of times and I can't help but be reminded of the notorious 85 degrees bakery or even paris baguette. The style is the same, if that helps to put things into context for you. I've fallen into the my eyes are bigger than my stomach phase here before. So I've done my fair share of goodies here. I've tried (this list isn't everything, just what really stood out): Macarons (1.50 a piece comes in coconut, pistachio, strawberry, blueberry, coffee) - unfortunately doesn't matter the flavor, all tastes like colored sugar. Red Bean pastry: $1.35 - EH ok, insides were too sweet White Bean pastry: $1.35 - EH ok, insides were too sweet Red Bean Donut: red been insides, outside sprinkled with sugar: good, but often out of stock! Regular Asian Donut - sprinkled with sugar: best when warm... but often out of stock! Bavarian puff(?) - just odd, it's like someone stuffed pudding inside a piece of bread. Mini chocolate loaf with chocolate cream: this is just brown bread with brown butter. It tastes like nothing. I don't get how they turn bread into a deep chocolate color without adding flavor to it. If you want to try to get something out of the cake case, good luck. You'll be standing there awkwardly if you expect someone to ask you if you need help. My advice, be assertive and almost annoying in trying to get someone's attention if you want that $3.00-$4.00 slice of chiffon cake, cheesecake or the $25-$35 whole cake. The verdict: More of a 2.5 stars! The pastries honestly aren't THAT good. I've felt a bit let down with about 75% of the things that I've eaten here, which is what drags their rating down. Things look nice, but upon biting into a pastry, there is either no flavor, odd flavor or just bad flavors. The service isn't that great - don't expect them to go out of their way to help you. I got to try Cake House for the first time, and I love it!\ There is a huge variety of Korean pastries that aren't sold in Sheng Kee or Sogo (Chinese bakeries). I purchased a chocolate cream bun, and it was super good! The bun was soft, and the chocolate cream filling was light and not that sweet. I wish I had more..lol. I also tried the chocolate danish. The crust was a bit flaky like a crossant. The filling had a lot of chocolate chips inside, so it is definitely for chocolate lovers! My friend recommended the 'Twisted Donut'. I was surprised that it was very good! The donut was a bit chewy and fluffy, and definitely different than American donuts. I liked how there was this yellow topping on top, which wasn't sweet at all. Overall, Cake House has really delicious pastries. I"ve loved everything I've tried so far. This review is only for their pre-ordered cakes. I was desperate. I went cake tasting at a few places and was REALLY disappointed. I'm not a fan of dry, heavy, rich cakes. I don't feel like spending almost a grand on them either. I don't like fondant...I don't care how kick @ss the cakes will look with them. What did that leave me with? Korean bakeries! My husband and I had a few slices of cake from here before. We were tired of wedding planning so we literally walked in, told them we wanted to buy a wedding cake, and bought it without doing a tasting. The lady was very helpful and nice. I told her our guest count was roughly 120. She said that I can get a smaller cake, one that supposedly feeds 100 instead of 150. Cool, no problem. She also said to pick out the style and shape I wanted. I chose round since square was pricier with very few embellishments on it. We told her the date and time to be there by and left. Honestly, I was scared. It seemed too easy and not a whole lot of info was exchanged. But when I laid eyes on the beauty, I was so happy with our purchase and it tasted absolutely like heaven.
