The food was amazing! We ordered Chola Batura, plain dosa, masoor dosa, masala dosa, and chai! The dosa is VERY BIG, but it was crisp, and the texture was amazing!!! The shop is a little small but cozy. Bathrooms are okay to use. Our chola batura came late but it was worth the wait! There are deserts as well! Then the cake I ordered for a party was decorated very poorly. I could easily follow a YouTube video and decorate a better cake. They charged me $10 dollars extra for a play dough looking fondant decoration. My baby cousin has produced a better sculpture with actual play dough. Their cake recipes are fine but they desperately need to hire someone who knows how to actually decorate a cake rather than charging people a lot of money for a sad cake. I used to love this place when I first moved to the USA. I love their cakes, they're so moist and not overly sweet like the cakes you find here in the USA. Their food menu is very diverse too. They have North Indian and South Indian means like chole bhature or dosas and idly. I used to believe that this place is like how small restaurants (dhabas) are in India. They make fresh food for you and having ordered chole bhature I was excited and craving for all the Indian flavors but as I was waiting for my food. I literally saw her take the chole out of the freezer put in the bowl, Microwaved it twice and served it. I was absolutely in shock seeing what she did. The flavor was lacking completely and it was overly salty. I seriously don't trust their food anymore. I don't know how long in advance they prepare it and freeze it !!!!!! I have ordered from Cake Walk several times and have always been pleased with the results. The cakes are delicious and always receive rave reviews from my guests. They are also reasonably priced, which is a huge plus. My only criticism is that they could use less oil in some of their other dishes. I used to like this place two years ago. From say last year, i would say mid 2018, the quality has gone down so much, I will never again go here. We asked for alu tikki chat, it was horrible. We could not eat it at all. It was full of cinamon or some spice which I have no idea but tasted so bad. Then my son got paneer panini. Even this he said was bad. We had ordered dosa, The lady rudely said we never ordered after 30 mins wait. Overall, this place is no good. This is what I refer to as a Minimum Restaurant. They've invested as little as possible in the decor, utensils, and service. Yet, they charge normal restaurant prices. The margins must be amazing. The food is mediocre; I found it to be bland. They have a TV playing Telugu Music Videos. Went there around Christmas weekend with family and relatives. Ordered many dishes. The best was Samosa Chat and Dosa. The worst was Aloo Tikki Chaat which had a stale taste. When I pointed that out they graciously apologized and offered another dish and a pastry for the kids. The masala vada was tasteless. The potato curry in the dosas were pretty flat with no work on taste buds! I went there salivating as the options in MD are far less and came away a bit disappointed. They also carry south Indian breakfast and fruit bread that are really fresh too. Had to try the brand new Indian place that I'm bound to pass by a couple of times a week. I was never a big fan of the one in Plainsboro and things are pretty much the same here. Masala vada was dry and pretty much lacked in taste. It came with coconut chutney that was too dilute to add any perceptible taste. Pesarattu was also not anything to go shouting about. Stopped by for a quick lunch Ordered samosa chat and colleague ordered rava onion masala dosa. The guy at the counter assured that the samosa chat would be excellent for sure. The dish contained a small sorry piece of samosa broken into halves floating in a cold gravy of hard chickpeas. The smell that the dish emitted was of something that had gone stale or over fermented. I'm guessing it was the yogurt or some kind of chutney from the medley. Dish lacked flavor and freshness. Definitely something to pass. The dosa was just ok but the chutney sambar and stuffing that arrived with it left much to be desired. Super diluted runny green chutney with sambar. The pale yellow runny stuffing was flavorless. We also took a couple of pastries ( pineapple and butterscotch). They are one of the best tasting items they have. Very soft moist and not overwhelmingly sweet. They have bunch of trainees who have no clue what the restaurant serves and they are also not trained to operate the system that handles the orders. They train them at your expense and end up with incorrect charges. Pay attention to the receipt you get and when you point out the mistake on the receipt they are plain rude!!! Not bad. I've been here a few times with my family since they've opened. The dosa has improved and is tasty since they've opened that I'd consistently go back. They've got good somber, at first they'd give these small metal cups which was NOT enough somber. Now they use small styrofoam cups that pack more somber, but not as much as their other branch in Plainsboro (same price, please correct me if I am mistaken). In Plainsboro (where I've gone for years) they give you this styrofoam bowl, which is basically standard size compared to other places (basically double the somber). Now when I went in July and asked for extra they wanted to charge me a dollar extra, I complained their original branch doesn't do that and gives a reasonable amount, they then said okay (they were nice about it) and offered to give extra somber. When I went again they offered extra somber no charge (probably because they remembered lol). So I guess that's good, you just have to ask. The people there are friendly, the owners/managers are also really nice people and gave some free bajaya to try last time I was there. If you haven't tried go give this place a shot, I'd be sad if it closed since I'm not sure I'm a fan of their competitor in the Staples complex across the street. They've only been open a few months, so like any restaurant they're adapting/fine-tuning their process. They seem to be on the right track and have good food. read more
