This place is awesome. Had a fender bender and insurance handled it with them through the whole process. S/O to geico as well I guess because I didn't have to deal with anything. Nana is so friendly and efficient. The parts came in late due to a back-logged order and she was consistently updating me on when to expect my car. It took way longer than expected but my car drives like it's brand new. They put a little extra work in to make up for the long lead time. She's so sweet - even gave me a gift card to a local restaurant to say thanks for my patience. I got a Detailing and wax. It is fantastic it makes my old car look and feel new. I just Love how fresh it smells. The previous owner had sprayed a perfume like air fresher that would give me a headache. But NOW I can't get enough of the fresh clean smell. I really wish I had before and after pictures of my car. Got into a car accident around 11pm, found a 24hr towing company that lead me to cals auto body. My insurance worked directly with nana and cal auto body, they started my repair within a week. My 2015 Corolla was smashed in the front and the total damage was $11,000. I thought there was no hope for my car. I think the only downfall was waiting a total of 3 months and a week for my car repair to finish. All in all the wait was completely worth it. I got my car and it literally looked like it came straight out the dealership!! Didn't even look like I had gotten into a car accident! Nana is extremely nice and accommodating. Helped me get a car rental for a month. I believe they take longer than usual for the repair because they have less than 10 workers employed. Nana explained to me that one worker is assigned to one project. And they are closed one day of the week I recommend this auto shop to anybody esp those with first car damage and accidents. We were heading back home over the Altamont Pass when a piece of plywood blew off the truck in front, landed on our windshield obliterating it, obscuring the view. My husband who was driving having to ask us, the passengers, if it was clear for him to try to cross over the four lanes to get off the road. Surviving that, my husband and son had to shake the glass out of their hair and we had to wait for police and AAA. The guilty truck didn't stop, or notice what happened. I then found Cal Auto Body through yelp and am now returning the favor to other yelpers. After I called Nana, she took care of everything. The repairs took over 4 weeks, and Nana checked in regularly with little videos of the progress. Geico underestimated the damage and cost, but all of that was handled by Nana. The car was then returned to us looking good as new. When an additional problem cropped up with the battery draining and dying, the local Ford dealership did a 'parasitic drain test', found the problem and reprogrammed the modem. Nana filed the claim for us with Geico and we got reimbursed promptly. All in all, it felt like Nana took a personal interest in getting everything solved in the best possible manner. She was the bright silver lining in this whole event. I can only add my praise of Cal Auto Body to all the other reviews. PS: I'd like to add a sixth star for Nana's mechanic solving a very irritating issue. We brought in our 2006 Element that had a problem with rain leaking into the foot wells. My experience with Cal Auto Body has been a disaster. I originally brought my car into the shop to get an idea of what to do after an accident that damaged by front driver side of the car. They took my car in, on a Wednesday, telling me they would get an estimate and supplement from Geico to see what can be done. However after calling them for a followup on Friday, they told me they could not do anything as Geico has not gotten to it, and let me take my car back to use for the weekend, as I did not have anything else to use for transportation. Upon returning my car on Monday for them to inspect, they gave me an estimate and a revised supplement from Geico. They told me they would contact me when they would be willing to take my car in to fix. As I wanted to wait for my deductible from Geico's case to be resolved, I told Cal Auto Body shop that I did not want to do work on the car until I could be reimbursed my deductible costs from Geico since the accident was not at fault. The employee at the counter said that would be fine and was a good idea. However, when I asked them to refund the check they cashed to Geico, they stated that it could not be done without paying a fee. I figure that would make sense as even though they never mentioned an estimate fee to me, I would cover them for the time they spent looking into the car for me. Instead, they stated they wanted 900 dollars for many of their fees, from estimate to storage to restocking fees. I am still unsure what lead to this outrageous cost, as I had never left the car at the shop anytime longer than when they said it was free to be picked up. I still haven't confirmed or authorized any work to be done on the car and no work has been done to the car yet, but there are costs for restocking. They insist on making sure I pay them before they are willing to refund the check they cashed out. Overall, the attitude and level of professionalism was lacking for me. Upon requesting they give me a text or call to keep me updated, they would always say they would and never did what they promised. When being contacted by my insurance, they would not take the calls instantly and make it hard for my adjustor to get anything done. Still, they are very persistent to try and get me to do the car fixed at their shop, but I am just not willing to justify letting a company with such poor customer service handle my car anymore. If I could rate this experience lower, I would. I'm utterly disappointed by this so called Diamond-Certified company and definitely do NOT recommend anyone else to go here. read more

I was in an accident with minor damage to my bumper and the guy suggested Cal Auto Body. After driving around with my GPS for quite a while looking for it, I finally called and Nana very helpfully explained how to get there. (note: Google Maps will mislead you - there is another Hillside in Daly City and that is where GoogleMaps thinks this is located. Next time just call!) Upon arriving, however, all my frustrations were swept away. Nana was super-helpful, set everything up for a decent price and got me a great-looking new bumper. As I did not ask for a rental car, they even picked me up and dropped me off at my house on the day of the repair (and I live in San Francisco!) They also were willing to cut out the parking sticker that's on the back of my old bumper, as it could not be reused but I needed it to get the replacement. How often do you buy flowers for your auto body shop? If you're like me, then probably just about never. But if you're as amazing as Nana at Cal Auto Body, then I guess you get them a lot... I had to put the vase down next to other flowers that customers had brought her! Why is Cal Auto so amazing? Well, here's the story: my car was banged up in an accident and I don't have collision coverage. The cost was going to be close to the value of the car so it was difficult to tell whether to repair it or not. Nana spent a large amount of time sourcing all the parts, and came up with an estimate that was a bit higher than the value of the car... so I reluctantly decided to get it sold for parts. Even though it's an old car and not worth a whole lot, Nana did all the work and negotiation for me -- she called all the lots that buy dead cars and negotiated with them as if it were her car. The guy she negotiated with thought it was the property of her shop, so he offered more than he would have for a normal person (who is generally assumed to want to get rid of a nondrivable car at any price). I ended up getting more cash than I would have expected for the car, and Nana never even asked for a penny for everything she did. In a line of work filled with unscrupulous people, it's great that there's an auto body shop that is honest and will help you out even if they don't stand to profit from it. This was, hands down, the best experience I have ever had with an auto body shop. I called after my car was hit and not only did Nana get me in right away, she also set up my rental car and worked with the insurance company for me. I got a call, almost daily, to give me an update on my car. I asked quite a few questions and Nana was incredibly patient and knowledgeable. When I picked up my car it looked brand new. The paint matched perfectly and the car was clean and ready to take home. I was most impressed when I asked the cost of doing some other work and Nana told me not to spend the money because it was not worth it.
