I had the lamb gyro, it was actually pretty good. Not too expensive, and a good amount of meat. All kinds of gains. I would eat here again. Oh wait, no I wouldn't, because the OWNER STEALS CREDIT CARDS. As I'm waiting in line, some kid walks in and tells the owner he forgot his credit card here the other day. Immediately the owner says, "Oh yeah, it's right here", grabs a STACK of credit cards from next to the cashier and gives it to him. Kid thinks nothing of it, says thanks, and walks out. What the actual fuck? My friend and I order, and the owner takes both of our cards. I don't remember exactly what happens next, but he basically pulls some David Copperfield shit, and we both end up with our food, but only my friend gets his card back. To start with i loved the cleansiness of the place since its really small and crammed between a bunch of other food places ,it was really clean ,small but clean. Preparing our order didn't take more than 5 min. my platter was huuuuuuge big portion of meat which i loved the most and the salad was so fresh yet lacked some seasoning but still loved it .The hummus dip was great too and i loved the lavash bread waaaaaaaay better than pita bread you get at mediterranean resturants. i got a bite from the kids gyros didn't like the chicken one but the beef was great the kids really loved it and finished the whole thing and i really didn't expect them to do so since the gyro was so big. The falafel? oh wow that another whole story. Great food. Just few minutes away from the main campus. Wish I had discovered this place earlier. My two other colleagues and I took a nice walk up on telegraph avenue and had a good healthy lunch. The service was great, we decided to sit outside on a nice sunny day while we talked about work and enjoyed our lunch. DEFINTELY our go-to place for Mediterranean cravings while in the Berkeley area. The guy that's always there (probably the owner?) is really friendly and personable. We always order their special platters, and have never been disappointed. The meat is always fresh tasting, seasoned well, and tender. Their hummus, pita, and salads are really good (and fresh) too. They're open later than a lot of other restaurants and are very affordable compared to other Mediterranean spots. The only drawback is that it is more of a pick-up-and-go type of place since there is limited seating inside. Not a marquee dating spot. read more

Second time my girlfriend and i have been to this place and for the second time, we have received exceptional customer service. I rarely give out more than 3 stars to any places, but I just feel this place deserves a full 5 stars, especially the older gentleman, i believe he is the owner of this joint. The food is mainly Greek Gyros, and I've had a couple in my short lifetime, and also made some at my old job in a small cafe, and I have to say the food is above average. Nothing super fancy, but it is good with a touch of home. The wraps are a good size, not too big and not too small, and the plates include some hummus, the meat, rice, and salad, which all filled me up, and I eat a lot. The older guy (the owner) is extremely nice, helpful, and humble. If you've never tried a gyro before, I recommend coming to this place and supporting a local and delicious place. I'm a little reluctant to give this place 3 stars because the staff are consistently nice and the service is always good. But, there are too many detraction from a perfect restaurant experience to make this a true 4 star restaurant. For example, there's an $8 credit/debit minimum, which sucks because the wraps are only $6 and change. Also, the meat is not always hot (I'm guessing sometimes it's in a steam tray and sometimes it's sitting at room temp). They're always good about customizing the wraps, i.e. extra sauce, spicy, etc. And, they're open super late, and it's always great to have options beyond the Top Dog / La Burrita / Pancho's trifecta. So disappointing :( Went to this place last night, looking for a gyro fix. Didn't get one. I ordered the gyro plate. The woman behind the counter was courteous and took my order right away. It took her about 10 minutes to prepare the whole plate (though I was the only person in the store), though I didn't mind because I figured she was preparing everything properly. I sit down to dig in, and that's where the disappointment begins. At first, it looks like there's tons of lamb, until I realize that it's sitting on top of a bed of rice. And the pieces of lamb are like little flaky pieces, about 1 inch in width and 1-2 inches in length, not like the more meatier shaved pieces I get at most other places. The meat doesn't taste bad, but the portion is small. I wanted to put the gyro pieces on the pita and eat it, but pita was burnt! Not like completely black, but I could definitely taste the charred places, making it inedible for me. I didn't realize it in the shop because the lady but the burnt side down and hid it. The hummus was bland and very grainy. Had no taste to it and was kind of gross. The side salad was okay, nothing special. I will not be returning to this establishment. Definitely not worth the $10 I paid for the plate. read more

Stay away! The lady/owner is crazy!! She overcharged my credit card and when I asked her why the amount was more than the price of my order + tax, she said there was a credit card fee. When I said she should have told me there was a fee or that it should be noted somewhere she went ballistic! She said I'll give you your money back and get out. She gave me cash but it was less than the credit card amount she charged so I said I want the full amount which after repeating myself she threw the change and said get out. I went back in to ask for my credit card receipt (bc I had a feeling her unethical nature was very capable of overcharging my card) she said she didn't have it then threatened to come after me and beat me (yes, she really said that and the few people there are witnesses) if I didn't leave. I wasn't even back for one minute before she made those threats. I stepped outside and called the cops. A cop came out and asked her for my receipt. She lied to him too and said she has an old school credit card processor (which is prob true) but she doesn't have my receipt (outright lie! I signed a copy and gave it to her earlier before her crazy outburst)! All I can do now is look out for the charge on my statement and write this review. This is a nice, tucked away Turkish-owned joint at Telegraph and Durand that I like a lot. The owner is really amicable.
